In the latest patch notes released by Square Enix for Final Fantasy XIV, players may have noticed something that might otherwise seem innacuous: players can now wear what they want, regardless of gender. At least for their wedding.

I wonder if this means we'll be able to get the tux if we already have the dress and vice versa.

They should just make everything gender neutral at this point but I realize that'd be a lot of work.

Because the game doesn't attract enough weirdo's. Literally every time I go back, everyone's still running around glamoured to be 98% naked. I actually feel bad for the poor guys that design armor in this game, how pointless their work must feel.

Then you take a wrong turn and walk into a secluded area and find people openly cybering. If this shit is happening in back alleys, can you imagine what goes on behind the closed doors of some houses?

ERP Online is a more suitable name for this game. Come live out all your furry fantasies. Now with Ronso's in wedding dresses.

    Welcome to 2020.

I'm absolutely delighted by this news and I eagerly await the Thavnairian Bustier being opened up for male characters! I have a gorgeous male Elezen and I've been dying for more elegant gown like looks for him. I'm so happy we have a producer/director and dev team who are living in the modern age and aren't hateful and closed-minded.

Mooncubus, I think you can just go to a salvager person to exchange x gender gear for y gender gear, maybe? For some reason I'm thinking we got both gender gear sets, and then I just tossed one in my armoire?

What game are you playing, Plague??? Perhaps it's just because I play on Balmung, but I'm constantly surrounded by brilliantly composed outfits across all levels of undress, with plenty of armored looks included. The creativity is inspiring! ☆ And as a, again, Balmung native I have to ask where exactly you're hanging out that you are being so inundated with erp??? And just to be clear, there's nothing wrong with it as long as the people engaged are all consenting adults, so this attitude of 'oh my god can you believe-?!' is not a great reflection on you. 'Oh my god, two adults engaging in a safe, entertaining, adult activity in the privacy of their own homes away from public eyes!' *eyeroll* It's not common to see it being done out in the open, for many reasons, so your claims have me doubtful at best.

I'm sorry the game offers players options aside from average human, buff human, and tall human and does not cater solely to your tastes. Furry fantasies? It's enough to make me laugh! If it were truly leaning more that way then Hrothgar wouldn't be one of the least played races and Miqo'te the most popular. ERP Online? Furry Fantasy XIV would have been more clever for your post, though I prefer to call it the Hot Elf Dating Simulator.

Thank you so much, MMORPG.com, for taking the time to report on this! : ) ♡

Like, I get it. You like the game. But why would I make up a bunch of random shit? I have seen people ERP'ing in public. 80% of people do wear as little as possible. You can try to flip the script on me however you like. But I literally stopped playing the game because I was repulsed by the player base.

I've heard the same thing exists in WoW, though I've never see it there either. Same thing with any game I imagine, though it's not as wide spread as some outrage trolls seem to make it out to be. Like I said, who cares? I know some actual real life married couples play MMOs together so there's that.

Ohh man, you don’t get it, you play in the Sodom and Gomorra of the MMO industry. The bumping, the grinding, the flaunting, he couldn’t take it, HE COULDN’T TAKE IT!!1! The sweat, the lust, the pheromones filling the streets, too much, TOO MUCH! Everywhere you turn, everywhere you go, I wanted to kill a mob once but all these players keep waving their schlong in my face so I kept missing, ruined I tell you.

(For reference, I have been playing the game for years and have never, ever noticed this behaviour. That doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist but it is a bit of a mountain and mole hill situation. Or I am a filthy, sexy beast).

'But there are many. You can play them entirely solo, and even offline. Also, you are wrong by default.'

Ikcin in response to yours sincerely debating whether or not single-player offline MMOs exist...

'This does not apply just to ED but SC or any other game. What they will get is Rebirth/X4, likely prettier but equally underwhelming and pointless.

It is incredibly difficult to design some meaningfull leg content that would fit a space ship game - simply because it is not a leg game.

It is just huge resource waste....'

Games are where we escape to and allow our fantasies to take flight. So why not dress to the nines. Wonderful addition I applaud it and cybering has been going on even in Everquest in the old days. Nothing new.

Not really sure why anyone would care. More choices are good. If it makes the players more invested in their characters then all the better.

It bothers me when people say more choices are good but only refer to the superficial. More choices ARE good. This game could actually be worth playing if it had choices that do something. Like real race bonuses and penalties, an actual character development system with choices, etc.

Devs have finite resources. If they are spending all their time on Barbie-doll dress-up and other superficial nonsense it sends a flag up to people who play games for the game parts of the game.

I'm currently spending zero dollars supporting the mmorpg genre - and not because I don't enjoy mmorpgs. Its because mmorpgs have morphed from the rpg meaning rpg systems and mechanics to meaning dress-up and weirdos talking about weird things.

We have every right to complain about games wasting their time (n our opinion) focusing on superficial nonsense and faux-choices instead of making their games playable and interesting for those of us who actually enjoy playing games that support gameplay by focusing on and spending resources on non-superficial systems and mechanics.

Ok, I've seen many articles about this (different sites). Yet I don't see this as a 'headline' topic, there's literally so little people who care about this.

    Great addon nonetheless, just miniscule.

Costumes are usually handled by the art department. Most of the developers responsible for things like raid content or adding new features like housing or classes or races or mini-games wouldn't be able to texture up a wedding dress in the first place.

In terms of the programming code for allowing males to wear wedding dresses... I'm pretty sure that didn't take very much development time to do.  ….hopefully.
