Official Everquest TLP PvP server

pvpirlpvpirl Member UncommonPosts: 178
default Official Everquest Team (TLP PvP?)

Going through the official forums over at Everquest, there seems to be a consensus among the devs...

If we can make the Zek PVP server "Medium" for one night, they will consider giving us a PvP TLP server.

February 29th (It's a leap year, the time of the PvP Prophecy is now), 8pm EST

Roll a character on the ZEK server: You can download the free client at Everquest.com, no sub required.

Please join our discord, to be a part of our community event February 29th.

https://discord.gg/pXe37HP

\

It's important we all log in around the same time, since the idea is to drive the population read UP to high.

It's what Brad would have wanted.

Brad would NOT have wanted this kind of BS. If he felt a PvP was merited, he would have put one in, and been done with it.

This some rancid Smedly BS to play with numbers.

The original Game  had several types of PvP servers.

This post is a complete lie. The devs have not said anything about "get zek population up for a night and we'll make pvp tlp server".

There is a reason P99 red has single digit population.

Pvp is NEVER warranted in a rpg,it is a waste of time and cannot EVER be balanced properly.

PVE does not need to be balanced and that is where rpg's should target their designs.

I can only assume that the people who want to pvp in rpg's are NOT very good at pvp,so they want ways to perhaps gain an edge wither with gear or a broken class, levels etc etc.If you are a serious pvp player, want to brag about your pvp accolades,go play the modern unrealTournament, the highest skilled pvp game in the world, miles tougher than FN which is laughable anyhow.

If your sort of a noob pvp'r then i guess FN or OW are your next choices.RPG's are like scraping the bottom of the barrel for pvp goodness.

anti mmo pvp people are some of the most bitter people i've ever encountered, in any community, anywhere. if you don't enjoy it fine, you don't have to play it, but let us have our fun.

To those of you who enjoy the finer things in life and battling virtual elves over 20 year old pixels with your bros, or just want to be a part of a meme, see you on the 29th, and join the discord in the mean time, it's filling out nicely so far.

I wonder if it's the same group of people who think they are being "forced" to pvp when they actively buy/download/install a game with pvp.

Might as well say "what about forced pve, what about forced crafting, what about forced traveling in the world."

And my thougths to Wizardry's opinion is that it doesn't have to be balanced, and if developers wanted to make it more balanced make it more skill based like an fps and less gear/level based. That could be a step in the right direction.

Not me, as I avoid PvP MMOs with a passion.

Yet, almost 99% of all MMOs have some form of PvP, which even on separate servers effects how PvE is "balanced", which is anathema to RPGs.

Personally the only modern MMORPG trend that annoys me is the idea that MMOs need to be designed in a way to attract people who don't actually like MMOs. Which to me makes about as much sense as someone trying to figure out a way to get vegetarians to eat at their steakhouse.

Fortunately EQ PvE affected how PVP was balanced (or lack thereof) and not the other way around. Again, I'm not here to convert someone who isn't interested in this level of competition or, imho fun, but either way hope to see you during the event.

Surely you are not going to feign ignorance at the number of times that PvP players have whined they need to PvE to get gear to PvP. That they are forced to do content they have no interest in to do the content they do have interest in. It is a manner or expression the 'forced' is used. Don't pretend like anyone believes someone is standing over them aiming a gun to their head.

Any time people feel any requirement in a game is to them a nuisance or a means to get to something else they express it as being forced. We use the 'forced' in real life all the time. That is how the word is used here.

No, I'm not and they should suck it up or not play the game. Why would you think I'd think any differently?

I'll add, this goes back to what I keep saying in that the players are their own worst enemies.

So sorry, no such thing as "forced." You either play the game and accept the rules of the game or you play something else. Life can't be this hard.

yeah, we had one of the best pvp experiences when we were trying to take down lilith and there was an alliance of farmers there who told us to get lost.

I would say that the issue is further along.

So let's say they get their numbers. All that's really happening is people are telling their friends "log in, log in!" and they get their numbers, the pvp server goes up and hopefully it's not a ghost town.

Would probably be better to see if they can sustain a healthy pvp population and if that population can be sustained for a certain amount of weeks then making a  permanent server.

    I'll fix this conversation !

Open PvP only works if the world is HUGE making it optional and able to be avoided depending on your mood.

-If you a true PvP player you can do that all the time.
-If your a true PvE player you can do that all the time.
-If your both you can do that all the time.

Vanilla World of Warcraft (then later with all its expansions) was the only large game that supports a large world, that's why it works.

I'm wondering how many existing high level characters will be waiting to jump on a hoard of new characters.

If there is a need, Daybreak, despite its many faults, have shown themselves to be willing to try to meet that need.  A stable, paid, high population for three or more months is far more likely to demonstrate a 'demand' for more PvP servers than a Smedly-esque, one-day circus of F2P people.

Logic, my dear, merely enables one to be wrong with great authority.
