I'm buying it in any case. Unlike PoE and Grim Dawn - this one actually looks good. Which is a rare case in the age of crappy quasi-8bit indie games.
I think both PoE and Grim Dawn not just look good, but have the depth that Wolcen seems to be lacking... which should be a staple for an ARPG. I'm giving it a few months before investing in Wolcen to see how it's progressed.

I find that debatable. Really havent noticed anything but the character animations being a bit stiff and not nearly as polished as either D3 nor PoE.
Luckily its all about the game play and mechanics for me, and there they most certainly have done a great job.
Ah lol .......they really need to "upgrade" the one patch a week thing at least for the first couple months
I'm sure they would if they could. The crew is very small. As an ARPG player this has great potential. I find POE ugly and that's just one of it's problems. The camera is too close for me. This game is gorgeous the camera is farther back but ofc it has a long way to go. I am playing offline and have had very few problems/bugs.
People comparing it to POE and D3 are forgetting what those games were like at launch. If the crew can stay at this it will be one of the best.

I disagree about Wolcen not having depth. It has it in spades once you start thinking about and using passives and gear to stack specific types of damage.
For me there's such a thing as not enough (D3) or too much (PoE) depth. Too much of it just gives me a headache. I don't mind spending some time researching builds and experimenting but I also don't want to feel overwhelmed by the complexity.
IMO, Wolcen is in a sweet spot between the two as is Grim Dawn. And I say this as someone who actively plays all of the ARPGs I mentioned.

I don't agree. I mean sure they had peeps that got the game earlier and paid less, like 20 bucks, for it but at the price the are selling it NOW and the huge amount of peeps that bought it they can for sure afford to get more than one a patch a week going.
Taking too long to patch things means they are gonna lose lots of sales due to refunds and bad "word of mouth".. I mean have you seen the steam forums?
Sad thing is most of the complaints are deserved barring a few of the usual gripes over nothing.

Having fun aside from the crashing issues in multiplayer. Nothing like being on the boss of the third rift and everyone crashes to desktop and you lose the progress.

I was referring to the depth of the story and available gameplay before you begin the endless loop that all ARPGs devolve into. I do not play Wolcen, but from what I read it is fairly short and character progression is fairly shallow.
I disagree with "too much depth" ever being bad. Games like this are all about story and/or character progression. Diablo 3 has fun gameplay and a decent story with almost no character progression. PoE has a good story and great class progression. Grim Dawn has a great story and great class progression. All three have decent replayability.
I want the same for Wolcen. It doesn't seem to have enough of that for me at the moment. Maybe it will in the future. It definitely looks great... but as posts here recently have shown, looks aren't everything.

People in a hurry to refund are not going to be around long anyway. You sure sound like you were not there for the mess that was D3 when it launched. They sure never fixed that in a week and it did fine for sales. This game plays fine in offline mode and will also do so online when they get it squared away. As far as steam reviews go that is a bunch of shit posted mainly by whiners. True ARPG fans will try it for themselves. This is a much more complete game than D3, POE or GD were at release, I was there for all of them. If it doesn't work for you now then check it out later after they've had time to fix it. They've been at it for years they're not going to give up now.
Do not use the forge. It will result in you not being able to play until they restart the servers. Official response by Wolcen on discord is that there is no fix until they patch later this week.

It doesn't matter if it's better than those game were when they released. They want you to buy Wolcen now. It has to be a better option than what's currently available. Currently, it can't compete with PoE or Grim Dawn other than just being prettier.
That's not to say it wont get better. When it does get better, then I will probably play it.

If every product had to be "a better option than what's currently available" we'd have an extremely bland world. Not everyone has daddy issues bro.

WOW, someone is protective of their new game.
I think you have that backwards. If we didn't expect a better option than what's currently available, we would have an extremely bland world.
There's no reason a new game should be less than or the same as we are currently playing. It doesn't sound like Wolcen does anything that much differently than other ARPGs at the moment, other than looking good graphically. If anything, it see it doing less. I think it's a little comical and somewhat telling that you so easily accept it not being better than older games.
While I am glad they pushed the graphical expectations of ARPGs, I will wait until they catch up to what we currently have available before putting any money into it.

LOL! Nobody is saying it's a better game now. Obviously it can't be it's brand new! I was merely pointing out that those games had shitty launches and turned out really well.
It does not have to be a "better option" at all. All it has to be is "another" option. Many ARPG fans have played the hell out of the aforementioned and are looking for something new. This fits that bill nicely for me

I am saying it needs to be better than what I'm playing (Grim Dawn) before I decide to buy it. Currently, it looks better graphically but the game as a whole doesn't seem to be there yet.
All I am saying is that I'm OK waiting.
It seems like they are working to get it to where it needs to be.

If you're busy playing GD then have fun. I had a ton o fun in that game. Got tired of it and moved on. Of the big ones out there Wolcen is most like GD so you will enjoy when you get around to it.
I'm still enjoying myself, the game is cathartic, the gameplay is great, better than Diablo 3
I dont get this - Wolcen looks like exact carbon copy of Diablo 3 and when it does not it copies PoE. Art style, armors, interface, world, end game and even some boss fights looks exactly the same as it is in Diablo 3! When this game started years ago it had something of its own, some ideas, but somewhere along production looks like devs lost their initial point of view and went "you know, screw it, lets make another Diablo game to be safe ."
Seems like people have enough of Diablo 3 and are glad to embrace anything, which is just "new".
