Looks like you'll be waiting a long time. City of Titans and Valiance Online are slowly crumbling from lack of progress, promotion and public recognition. Ship of Heroes will be the only game left and will succeed by default.
Of course you could always donate thousands of dollars to VO and CoT. Throwing money at problems is always an option.
I've got a feevah, and the only prescription... is more cowbell.

Thats a weak argument, the game is aesthetically bad is it is functionally and that goes doubly for the other 2 u mentioned.
They are going about this all wrong making it an ARPG and not tab targetted would be a better option as tab targetted does not suit the super hero genre as u can see in the video the guy is punching/kicking AIR not very super hero like and its very unforgiving especially for immersion what this game seems to want to capitalise on! range skills its okay i guess but melee no its just not fluid combat at all!

Those are your opinions and present no counter argument.
You keep saying that SoH should be an ARPG instead of tab-targeted, and you claim that tab-targeting does not suit the super hero genre, and yet you ignore the fact that City of Heroes was a tab-targeted game and survived successfully for many years. You also conveniently forget that Ship of Heroes is a work-in-progress and, as a great many games have been before, will remain a work-in-progress probably until its last few months of official support online. What looks poor today could be temporary and is slated for revision before launch.
I don't think that people with your mindset are the type that Heroic Games Corp intends to market their game to and I don't think they'd actually care to try to change their minds.

okay say u are right, how many of the players will be paying for that FTP service a fair number i would suggest is 1 in 10, say it gets 2000 players thats 200 paying customers payingg 5 bux each for microtransactions/paid benefits do you really think that would be enough to sustain this game for more than 6 months with lazy gameplay and unimaginitive powers? like the guy above me said why play/pay for SoH when CoH is still availible?
i wont lie im not a fan of this style of game tab targetted only suits tabletop rpg like experience like baulders gate style games
How many super heroes do u see waiting to charge a spell or use a move does the hulk just stand around in the movies waiting to smash or does he do as he pleases similarly for dr strange he casts spells instantly this is the culture we are in now its all about action and i dont think people will be enthralled by this game for more than 6 months (after the initial shine is gone and lack of content being made from a small team) because its not standing out from the crowd as its not far to dissimilar from valiant online city o titans city o heroes champions online DCUO (6 games in the exact same genre is stifling especially when the avengers game looms and most people will be picking that up instead) they are all OLD clunky games you can only reinvent the wheel so many times and SoH hasnt done it this time it should go back to the chopping board and be rethunk before its vapour ware!

I enjoyed the combat in City of Heroes. I prefer games that focus on character progression and stats. There are already a ton of twitch games out there for PC, Console and mobile platforms. It really gets irritating how so many people want every single game to cater just to them and begrudge the one or two that don't.

Your preferred play style isn't exactly reinventing the wheel bud. People have different tastes, respect that and have the decency to let the developers design the game the way they want it. No one is forcing you to participate or even acknowledge the games that don't appeal to you.

The current plan is for SoH to be subscription only. HGC must put in the work and make content for this model to support. They can't half-ass it. By not half-assing it there's a lot less chance of it being vaporware, which there is already minimal of.
"How many super heroes do u see waiting to charge a spell or use a move?" CoH has powers like these. They're called Interruptible powers. It naturally takes a second or two for a precision snipe attack, which is something even Hawkeye has done in The Avengers. People are already playing CoH Homecoming with interruptible powers and attacks and they don't mind at all.
Yes, SoH isn't too dissimilar from VO and CoT, but they're crumbling from the reasons I mentioned above and won't survive their first year of going live, if they even make it that far. CO is old, DCUO is old and doesn't have what old CoH players want. I haven't heard about this Marvel game you speak of so who exactly knows what wheel they'll try to reinvent or how much they'll try to focus it on their own characters and minimize player created characters. I don't think this approach helped their last game win over many from the CoH fanbase.
It's pretty obvious SoH isn't the game you want and never will be. You should just go sing the praises of the games you do like. Better yet, build a concept for your own game and pitch the idea to a game engine company and let them build it. Then you can see just how well the world likes your ideas over what other people already like.

The video was okay. It didn't blow me away, neither did it drive me away. The 'swoosh' effect lines are a bit distracting. If there was some way to put these to a nearly transparent color or turn them off entirely, you can bet that I would.
Still, the martial arts focused only on strikes. Where are the throws or holds?
Logic, my dear, merely enables one to be wrong with great authority.
Well that was underwhelming. Still looks like a student project, not trying to be rude. But as a game-designer, this is not impressive.
The dev team is unpaid, btw. They contribute when they have time. Right now they are working on getting the game to the point they can have a supporters beta, where people pay a monthly fee to play. All of the money will be going to finish the game, and quite honestly, with steady money and the ability to pay their devs, we will probably see rocket progress.
This is not early access. Early access is selling a game as finished and then marketing that 'you can get a big head start on your friends if you join now!' SoH won't be marketed as a finished game, but as a work in progress that needs a push to finish. I've talked to the CEO a lot (I count him as a friend), and they want to show progression in the game. Too many projects hold back EVERYTHING so no one has a clue where the game is going. Casey isn't going to do that. He would rather overshare progress (no one is making you read it) than undershare.
The world is going to the dogs, which is just how I planned it!
to @Spriggen1337 This game is not for you. This will not be an ARPG, sorry. They are marketing to the same audience that was playing City of Heroes, a very notable entry into tab targeting games. The only superhero MMORPG that used action combat failed after a bit over 4 years.

Knockbacks are fun, especially on a bridge or the roof of a tall building.
Agreed.
While not desirable, and sometimes downright annoying, in some cases KB can be quire amusing around high ledges, in tight quarters and close to walls where travel distance is minimal and direction can largely be controlled. You just have to know how to use it. Some people just don't have the skill or the patience.

I think it looks pretty good; it looks playable even in this early form.
It is a mistake to compare a new game from a small indy studio to a long-running game from a large professional studio like City of Heroes. CoH is now at the top of its game, after a lot of development and tuning. The high water mark.
But CoH is old, and it shows. SoH is new and it shows. SoH has a future, and it could end up surpassing CoH when SoH hits its own high-water mark.

One of my SG's favorite things was to go into the shadow shard and gather a bunch on one of the rings. Then my Energy blaster would use Energy Torrent and send them off the edge! FREE XP!

Battlegrounds in WoW and SWTOR. Knockbacks off the edge of the word or some huge pit. Never got old for me. Especially when you pull another player by having them chase you close to a ledge, and then "poof!"
