    Is it a MMORPG now?

I like New World despite all the triggerness, there are very few titles that would combine a more sandbox approach to building, creating settlements and towns co-existing with other players despite playing PvP or PvE, while still having the PvP dedicated content for guilds and territory conquest.

So the open world full loot pvp has relaxed the game a bit, however, the MMO does need more inspiration to have a point and a good vibe to its replay-ability.

Down side to me is the map size being intentionally small (aka Skyrm map size, what is quite bellow the current standard MMO worlds), that would likely make it too competitive on the territory conquest aspect not giving any real sense of ownership or development at that level.

It couldn't possibly be worse than Breakaway.

I would love for a MMO with a setting this different to succeed, but the best I can muster for Amazon is cautious willingness to try it.

wait and see is all teh aproach you guys should hope for, thinking jsut because amazon ahve money they can't go wrong is dumb, so wait till launch then see how it goes

I'd love to root for Amazon studios on this......if they could make up their minds as to what they want it to be. Yes, the industry needs more AAA quality studios willing to invest in persistent MMOs vs these drop-in/drop-out games, but the game won't be good if it lacks identity/direction (cough Anthem cough). Unfortunately, I'm getting Anthem vibes from all this with them flip-flopping around on what you're able to do in the game, with them saying its going to be pvp-heavy to pve-heavy just with dungeons/raid delayed until post-launch, to whatever hybrid they are trying to sell.....all of this with them game almost being officially out within a month or 2...?

I has always been hovering in a grey area between extremely large survival game and MMORPG.

I think Tim is giving it the benefit of the doubt for now and I hope he's right. I hate punching bushes.

It depends on what you mean. There is a lot of advancement. Survival aspects aren't needlessly tedious like needing to eat and drink or die. Server size is not small like Ark or typical survival games.

The game has always been closer to an MMORPG than any other genre even before the toning down of open world PvP.

not feeling it, simply because it doesn't look like a world, it seems more of a tunnel.

Not sure i would agree with you, are you making your opinion based on screenshots, because im sure those are purposefully taken to exaggerate the flair of the game.

Here is a vid with some gameplay, looks pretty open to me.

I hope it succeeds but I also hope they can throw in some interesting systems. If it succeeds because it turns out to be a mashup of Ark and FFXIV then we will just keep getting more of the same.

Well to be fair there could be bush punching in an mmo just as easily.

Alpha player looking for Guild for Beta and early access. I would like a very active guild using discord. Would also like mature guild.

Well, believe me, as much as I have my doubts regarding this game, I..somehow looking forward to it. There is literally no other MMORPG on the horizon and this one at least looks and plays decent, especially with the new changes they made to the game to be more in-line with ... MMORPG genre.

Amazon have ALL the money in the world to build a solid MMO. Let's hope that New World will deliver.

There is a RIDICULOUS push towards releasing this early tho, in a few months they change the design of the game and implement very very superficial PvE systems like questing, with just a few quests on the entire game and PvE content very very hollow.

The game has really good bits, visually good, good animations, performs good, good UI and good combat. So if the devs care, the problematic bits that is pve systems and lack of content will be a matter of time to expand upon, because the core aspects of the game are set.

I am not sure why the big rush to release, they know the reception won't be good because it already isn't on the alpha forums feedback.

Game is gonna be a huge flop. You can't change your game premise 3/4th way through development then be able to introduce pve content and actual mmorpg features. So my take is this game went from pvp survival to pve survival. Not a mmorpg

So all they author cares about is that Amazon makes money so they can get further funding?

it doesn't matter if the game is crap or over rated because god knows this site will NEVER say anything bad about the game, you can bet there is already a business deal between Amazon and mmorpg.

This article COULD have talked about the game actually being good and what it will take for it to be a good game.Instead just a pile of vague talk, meaningless stuff that has nothing to do with the actual game.

I guess the writer can't hold amazon to any spelled out standards because then they would have to say something bad about a possible business partner. It is still fresh in my mind when Bill made those two threads about Destiny 2 before there was hardly a peek at the game, praising it and saying we NEED a game like that. Then i find out he runs his own business promoting games, yeah all makes sense now.

This article seriously was a waste of time and just smells of endorsement.Tell us what will make this game great and write a REAL gamer's article instead of this promoting Amazon work.

This is EXACTLY the problem i have eluded too a few times.it is because there really is so few quality games that every time something gets released,a lot of people buy it ....just because there is nothing else.

I was one of the few that actually enjoyed his purchase of Atlas and still have no regrets.I very highly doubt this game will match Atlas. The New World will offer LESS except for a very trivial pve addition which i bet people will be bored of the pve after a couple weeks.
This game is going to be like every new game, the streamers get their free copies, entice millions more to join in,then the streamers stop playing and everyone else follows.

I will try it because there is not new mmorpg, but not dungeons, etc that's a bad point for this game

It's more resembling the traditional MMO open-world design really. Nothing more or less linear than that, the usual use of mountain ranges and all to shape the play area and the travel paths.

I want them to make money so all of the other publishers go hey, I guess there is still money in this genre, then start funding MMORPGs again so we can stop getting ripped off by KS MMORPGs.

I COULD talk about the gameplay...if it wasnt under NDA.

Thanks for reading, I always enjoy your work too.
If it were any other company I would agree with you.  When Amazon gets into a market, it destroys that market. Some might be of the opinion that it can’t be worse than our current situation, but I think it can.  I give them kudos for honoring the $0 purchase I made years ago, but ultimately I really do not want Amazon successfully extending its tentacles here.

PS:  Nice to see a second article so quickly after your last one.  Keep em coming.

I'm rooting for their LOTR MMO. That game at least has the chance to turn a lot of heads but New World I think even for them is already forgotten.

Pretty pictures do not make for great gaming only high production values. Launch or more likely early access will tell us what's what.

Which market did Amazon destroy by entering it? I mean, Prime video is pretty good, Game studios we have yet to see... what else?
