Are there any indie MMOs you still have hope for?

I think we've all realized that indie MMOs are going to offer, at best, a very limited experience compared to the AAA games of the past.  Still, are there any indie MMOs in development you still have hope will deliver a quality experience that functions as originally promised?  My list is down to one:  Project: Gorgon.

    I can't say I am burning candle or pining away for any of them.. but.. I have my eye on them all, and really hoping they work out and make something.

    * I pre-ordered this one, and have been in the pre-alpha. Looks solid, and will go live soon enough, once they work out the bugs and graphics.

    Defend the night,Pantheon.I get more a good feeling about Defend the Night than i do Pantheon.I will keep an eye on Lucimia as well but not as hopeful.
    Although there are very few true Indie studios,most house veterans in the business.I think we all tend to rate Indie as being a new studio or not having much money.

    As to Gorgon, it is a great game on paper but not in implementation.There is way too many things to describe the fails in design,it is like ideas are both good and bad at the same time.Also the combat felt very much handcuffed,like i didn't even matter,could have just pressed auto complete for combat.If Eric hired an actual quality artist/modeler the game could have and should have looked a lot better,even on that ancient platform.

    However even at it's faults,i did have some fun playing Gorgon and played it for like idk around 6 months.It is just that after all that i lost interest,i really wish the game could have been funded by a large entity and a bigger team to make it all around a more polished and better looking game.I feel the $39 price tag is a bit much,$20 is about right.

    OP have you played Project Gorgon? The game is already mostly complete just extra races and housing to be added but for the most part everything that there is is mostly already in the game. I've put the game down temporarily until they add dwarves and housing. The development is slow though so dunno how long those will take.

    Camelot Unchained.

    Sure, development has been damn slow and we still seem to be a long way from launch. But, it is the only MMO in development that is trying to fix the problems that I have with the genre and that I firmly believe need to be solved in order to revitalise mmos.

    Namely:

    1) The bespoke engine
    It drives me absolutely nuts that most games labelled as massively multiplayer don't have any massively multiplayer features, and some of them aren't even massively multiplayer at all. It makes me very happy that CU is actually making an engine that will allow the only unique selling point of the whole genre to be utilised.

    2) Deep combat mechanics
    I fucking hate shallow combat mechanics, but in this era of action combat, that's all we have left. I don't know how the rest of you can stomach it! Action combat becomes boring within just a few hours and only gets worse over time. How do you manage it?!?!? I need depth! I need to be making decisions, knowing that my actions and decisions are the deciding factor in success or failure. CU is going have a very deep combat system and I can't fucking wait!

    3) Horizontal Progression!
    This is the massively multiplayer genre. We're supposed to be playing together. So, I hate the fact that most MMOs are designed around single player mechanics that segregate the community. Vertical progression is one of the worst culprits for segregation in mmos, so I am extremely pleased that CU is going to be based on horizontal progression. From day 1, I'll be able to contribute to everything, play with everyone and yet still have things to work towards.

    4) We can change the world!
    I find it incomprehensible that we had player cities in 2003 in SWG (and before in others, but swg was my first) and yet today's MMOs are more static than the first wave. So, I love the idea of being able to design and build our own structures in the main game world and have them be important. From a tiny personal house all the way to giant cathedrals and fortresses, we, the community, will be able to do it.



    I think the focus of CU is still going to be too small to make it a massive success, but I think it will have enough success for itself to be viable. Most importantly, I think that CU will prove educational to other developers and hopefully inspire them to start making better MMOs.

    I was only interested in Camelot Unchained. But Ive lost all hope for them now. Development is so incresibly slow which seems more of a sign that its just gonna die. I highly doubt any true game will materialize from it. I think Crowfall will definitely be something, so that might be fun.

    Dual Universe for me really, none of the others are my style of game / gameplay.

    COE was a long shot until I remembered their focus in parkour mechanics.

    I'm already pretty old and slow, I could well be nearing 70 by the time the game launches so anything focused on action combat won't be of interest. 

    Unless of course they find a way to wire me into the Matrix.

    1 - Ship of Heroes - I am very confident this game will release.

    2 - Pantheon: RotF - Even though the CEO passed awa, I am quite confident we will see this game too, although the vision may be reduced from the original plan.

    Well for myself it is not about just seeing a game release because any studio can simply say here ...game released.

    Quality games,now there lies the problem,VERY few of those out there.The industry is so tied up to time lines,money,profits,investors that hardly one game is released without several flaws in design.

    So i honestly don't care if a game releases,i only care about a quality game i would want to play and pay for.If a game releases f2p i auto write it off as crap and have yet to see one single game change that.

    I feel that in the end,of the games that do release,all of them will be rushed and will have removed some of the game they could not finish in a timely fashion.It is a simple decision for the studios...hey just omit that idea and we will sell it to them in a dlc or expansion,they'll never know the difference.

    Here's what I've backed:

    - The Repopulation:  Virtually dead.

    - SotA:  Got away from the original concept and turned out to be a game for whales.

    - Shards Online/Legends of Aria:  Got away from the original concept and is dying.

    - Camelot Unchained:  Stuck in development hell and I think it will be for years to come.



    These are the reasons I have so little hope left, plus seeing so many other indie MMOs I didn't back either fail outright or get stuck in endless development.  I guess I also hold out some hope for Ship of Heroes, but I won't back it or any other MMO until it's fully released and proven to be a decent game. 

    The current game on here that everyone seems interested and hopeful for is Saga of Lucimia.  The developer talks a good game, but so have many others.  That's how they get the funding to begin with, either from private investors or crowdfunding.  They're good salesmen.  I'm just not getting my hopes up any more for an MMO short of a full release.

    People can spend ridiculous money on it if they choose, but there is no need to spend any. Having gone f2p you don't even need to pay the upfront cost anymore.

    A house and deed are given out over the quest line for the initial continent, with the cash reward for daily consulting the oracle paying out twice that of row lot rent.

    If you want to own a player town or maintain huge properties it can get crazy costly, but just to play and own a modest house costs some time and a smidge of commitment to get through the story missions related to three virtues.

    I don't hold out hope for any MMOs let alone indie MMOs. There is only one indie developer who is doing anything interesting and that is Abstract Era Entertainment. They are developing a fully modifiable MMO called Seconds From Silence...it'll be the first of its kind.

    Aside from that, I have zero interest in MMOs...I'm done with them.

    Let me clarify what I meant:  A game controlled by whales, where those who spent the most money had the largest say in the game's development and direction.

    I'm not so sure, seeing as a huge amount of the investment occurred before they had strayed from the original intent, with many of those investors displeased with the ensuing changes. Although, perhaps already having that money, they chose to appease a new set of whales, or they simply threw the originals under the bus on the belief mainstreaming the game would provide an abundance of new ones.

    Regardless, the way the game developed provides ample reason for those that sought what was originally promised to be disenchanted with what the game has come to deliver over time.

    Project Gorgon is a great game, but it won't appeal to everyone. It's the kind of game where you don't worry about getting to the end. The journey is the entire point of the game. There is no set path you need to follow. It has a great community and gets new content on a regular basis. If anyone is looking for a stress-free game where you can play as much or as little as you want and still advance, this is the game to try.

    They recently added fairies as an advanced playable race, so I've been leveling as an ice mage/priest while waiting for Crowfall to send 5.110 to the test server.

    I found Gorgon oddly stressful.  I felt like I was being pulled in a dozen directions at once with all the skills I felt I needed to train, especially when I tried archery and needed to gather materials for fletching, carpentry and alchemy.
