imageWhat Are Your Fallback MMOs?

It’s no secret that there’s a dearth of new MMOs these days, but sometimes you just feel like playing an MMO and even an old one will do. What are some your fallback MMOs? These are mine.

Right now my fallback is City of Heroes. I've been playing that steadily since last April. When I get tired of that I will reload Star Trek Online and Elder Scrolls online. But It will be a bit longer before I am tired of it... I will be very happy when a newer MMORPG with more modern graphics comes on the scene, Ship of Heroes and Pantheon being the ones I am most anticipating, but the three listed are doing very well for me right now.

Went back to Division 2 with the expansion, but otherwise it's WoW or FFXIV.  Depends on what my friend is going to decide to play too.

Eve Online. No matter what might be going on with the game the community is worth it.

For actual MMO its going to be Screeps and AlterAeon.

For single player games something like Oxygen Not Included, or getting around to actually beating a handful of single player games.

    ___

FFXIV is an MMO I eventually return to occasionally but as a main MMO.

It used to be CoH. Every time I quit playing a game, I would go there and design a new character. "Hmmmm. Maybe this time I'll make it like a bug or something." That kind of thing.

Yes. I tend to come here more between games. And lately I am usually between games.

    Eve
    Eq1

    Are my 2 big ones.

I'm pretty sure both of those have been subbed at least a few months a year for the past 15 years.

Right now I'm trying FF11 and having fun. I played it at release and I forgot how endearing-plus-frustrating it is :)

Also I want to try Istaria as it's one of the very few I've never played.

RIP Ribbitribbitt you are missed, kid.

I kind of rotate my MMO's anyway. So in no particular order...SWToR, City of Heroes, Warframe, Neverwinter, FFXIV, and Guild Wars 2.

Well, since Guild Wars 2 just teased a CANTHA EXPANSION, OH MY FUCKING GOD, AHHHHH!!... ahem, excuse me, I may be going back to that after over a year's hiatus.

I find myself back in EQ1.  I don't know why, I'm taking my meds.

Warhammer 40K Eternal Crusade, you would be amazed how Sarapukedit it is to hack some asshole to death with a chainsword after they tried to play run-like-candy-ass and shoot you to death.

They are all fallback until something new comes out. DDO would be my main fallback, with LotRO, Champions Online, EQ2, DCUA, some NWN 1 and 2 servers, etc. I used to play Anarchy Online and Age of Conan regularly until Funcom banned me for spending money for some unknown reason. Fucking Norwegians.

GW2, ESO, and FFIV just don't have enough going for them rpg-mechanics-wise to even bother installing and checking out. Its like all three cater to the same ADD kid who just wants to spend his time endlessly leveling as fast as possible.

I love, love, love WoW classic but had to give it up for them supporting totalitarianism. I was hoping that by the time BC came out they wouldn't have done anything too dumb and anti-liberty, but Soros just invested half a billion with them so I can probably safely scratch that off my list of awesome things to look forward to. I'd much rather support freedom and liberty than a megacorp even if it means missing out on playing the one of the best mmorpgs ever.

DAOC freeshard or EVE back in the day, however I haven't played a MMORPG in over 3 years.

I have been playing FO76 solidly for the past 6 months, a sort of MMO experience.

Lord of the Rings Online is really the only one. I go back with my brother on a regular basis (every year for a few months).

Mine used to be AC2 (extinct) EQ2, WoW, CoH (official extinct) & Neverwinter.

Cryptic has taken away the foundry & cross-chat so now they've just become more cookie cutter online games.

I'm sad to say I've never tried Champions Online so I might try that for the difficulty levels & the superhero feel even though Cryptic is starting to dissapoint me.

I guess I'm now more of a single player CRPG player looking for someone daring innovation in that arena.

    None.

I just rotate PoE, Warframe, Fallout 4, some 4X games.

Waiting on Pantheon and Star Citizen.

The popularity of MMOGs was mostly restricted to the computer game market until the sixth-generation consoles, with the launch of Phantasy Star Online on Dreamcast and the emergence and growth of online service Xbox Live.

The ones I return most to are FFXIV, ESO, SWTOR and GW2
Then there are the ones that need a little longer "regeneration time" like EQ2, LotRO, EVE, WoW and right now my newfound old love Warhammer Online in the form of Return of Reckoning. I'm sure I've forgot some but I guess this alone shows how starved for new MMORPGs I am
