In a blog post on the Guild Wars 2 website today, the team at ArenaNet laid out their vision for the future of Guild Wars 2, including word that they are hard at work on an upcoming third epxansion of the venerable MMO.

Because they know how submissive their playerbase is, and that there's basically no new rivalry in the genre to actually deliver quality content regularly. Look, grinding festivals and a tournament makes 2/3 of this "announcement". And these are highlights for the upcoming 3 months. This should be enough to make up one's mind about how devs treat it's game.
It's like returning to my childhood home. I can't wait to explore the Echovald Forest and the Jade Sea in whatever form they take in GW2.
YES. ALL OF THIS. I have nothing else to do right now so take my moneeeeey.
Well, GW 3 probably will never happen. It would mean a new engine, etc.
You make casual sound like a bad thing. This has always been the issue with this forum. So what if is a casual game? It means, if I want to play with friends I can pick it up and go, no muss no fuss. Nothing wrong with that. I don't have to spend 50 million hours to gear up to play (See you are not the only one that can exaggerate)
And you don't spend 4 years killing a Spider. I mean my mesmer can solo most Champs at lower levels (not the Zone champs) but like Champion Spiders etc. Doesn't take 4 days.
With that said, I'm super excited for this announcement! I think this would be the perfect opportunity to bring in Tengu as a playable race and bring back alliance battles between the Kurzick and the Luxons for pvp.
APThug said: Yes please.
If you see the earning call, they are bleeding players.
They should just scrap gw2, make an GW2. Rethink everything.
Make a LFD as in other games, where you search for players, not a LFG where you apply to groups. I seen so many new people dropping the game, bacuse they hit max level and now they want to try out dungeons. Old players just kick them from the group instant. "BAD GEAR, Or NO EXP".
Would also say, gw really need better gear progession, a gear progessions that keeps you playing, where you always have a goal to get better and do better.
My 437th wish for GW2 is that they add hireable mercenaries so that we can do small/medium events at a time of our choosing. That would be an amazing QoL addition.
yah.. because catering to hardcore players worked so well for them in HoT.
Thats because your most likely used to vertical progression (become more powerful overtime) instead of horizontal progression (not necessarily becoming more powerful, but having a lot more options to do stuff)
GW2 is more of a horizontal progression game, and its clear there are many people who like this kind of style. In fact, when ascended gear was brought into the game (which presented vertical progression via gathering more and more agony resistance) people were up in arms upset. Some even quit and found it to be a betrayal. This includes legendary armor.
I like both progression systems, and theres a place for both. Gw2 is honestly kind of a rare MMO in a sea of MMO's that offer a different and unique progression system where my skill can matter more than my gear. I can jump in and play with friends immediately rather then play catch up by myself for weeks or months before I have the correct "gear" to play. (Like in swtor for example, where I might as well not even be in a raid group because I'm barely contributing to anything because of my low gear score even though I'm max level)
First they say they aren't going to make new expansions, now they are. Sounds like they just need a way to get players to part with their money, and learned making Expansions will do exactly that.
Sadly, they have lost a lot of good faith with their Casual base after HoT, and really didn't do anything to turn that around, which, regardless how much people want to pretend otherwise, Casuals and players that were burned out on traditional gear grind MMO's, that everyone cries about wanting, was at least at one time, a huge demographic in GW2.
Not sure what they have left at this point, I wager the diehard fan's.. that somehow are not spending enough to keep the game afloat.
I almost didn't buy PoF, but my static told me it was really good, so, I bought it to help them get mounts and stuff, which, it's always fun playing with my friends, no matter what game we play.
Anyway, who knows, maybe this expansion will be the perfect fan service that is needed to rebound., or it might be a final nail in the coffin like HoT almost was, I don't know. I was part of the demographic that rage-quit over HoT, so, even tho I am playing again, I am not the demographic that will make or break this expansions.
As I said.. we shall see.
The moment the last of these person left, Anet started to work on a new expac for GW2...which means it won't be out until late next year at best.
Also, Canthaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!
But the basic summary of my suggestion would be to add Diablo-esque gear with 1 exciting modifier per piece, along with 2-5 stat bonuses that roll in random values, but (and this is important) always total out to the same amount of points (and the numbers used should be low - ie: 10 points of total stats - to keep variations reasonable). The gear that you get 3,000 hours in would be at the same level of the gear that you get at the very beginning, but there would be so many different combinations that you would always be finding new possibilities on new skins, and trading would thrive.
When you buy the standard edition of Path of Fire, you get HoT bundled in with it! The new xpac is still probably a little ways out, so I'd suggest getting a little bit of a head start-especially if you want to work on your Ascended gear. If you craft your own Ascended gear, some of the mats are time-gated, so it'll take a bit before you can complete your set. You can buy the mats you need, but it can get a little expensive. Starting now would also let you unlock your gliding and mount, so you'd be ready to rock and roll if/when Cantha comes.
