FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Companies to develop games for PCs, wireless and next-generation consoles based on Platinum Studios comic book properties

LOS ANGELES (September 27, 2004) Platinum Studios, an entertainment company that controls the world's largest independent library of comic book characters, has announced the development of massively multiplayer online entertainment applications with Icarus Studios LLC, a leading trans-media development and technology studio. Original interactive games, based on the Platinum Studios' library of comic characters, will be designed and developed for PCs, wireless and next-generation consoles.

The deal which was finalized via FOG Studios, Platinum's representative for interactive rights enables Platinum Studios and Icarus Studios to co-produce full trans-media, multi-user interactive products, simultaneously with graphic novels and feature screenplays. Upcoming comics "Blood Nation" and "Atlantis Rising" will be the first two Platinum Studios properties developed for interactive games. The theatrical version of "Atlantis Rising" is being produced by Platinum and Gale Anne Hurd’s Valhalla Motion Pictures ("Aliens", "Terminator", "Aeon Flux") with Hurd and Rosenberg producing...

"Through this deal, Platinum Studios will now be able to develop comic book titles and characters simultaneously for print, film and games," said Scott Mitchell Rosenberg, chairman of Platinum Studios. "This enhances our ability to build valuable and recognizable entertainment franchises that can be experienced in virtually every medium."

Icarus and Platinum will share their expertise to be at the forefront of true media convergence. The advent of broadband Internet at home has created a demand for trans-media entertainment design and storytelling that goes far beyond the current film/game adaptations.

"Comic book properties are ideal for adaptation to multi-user entertainment applications for PCs, game consoles and mobile phones," said James Hettinger, CEO and co-founder of Icarus Studios. "Platinum Studios' characters and stories have a universal appeal which allows us to move beyond hardcore gamers and reach a more mainstream audience with our creations."

In Platinum Studios' upcoming comic book "Atlantis Rising," an underwater kingdom and the surface world come to the brink of war with the fate of both civilizations hanging in the balance. "Blood Nation" tells the tale of a team of commandos that must infiltrate a nation populated entirely by vampires. Rosenberg adds, "Icarus is the only company I can see doing this with. Their storytelling ability and amazing graphics and technology will translate the themes of these books beautifully into the world of the multi-user online gamesentertainment."

    Indeed.

Platinium Studios is going to use the technology Icarus Studios has developed to make an Atlantis Rising game. It has absolutley no impact on the development of Fallen Earth.

    Nice try though Calmar.

Lead with your face and role with the punches.

Oh I dunno - Fallen Earth has been in development for.... a long time. And there have been times when the future of the project looked less than certain. I also recall Icarus right from the early stages said their intention was to build an engine for Fallen Earth which they could also sell to be used to develop other games.

I find news like this encouraging. When the small, fledgeling business developing the game you want to play makes significant breakthroughs like this, well...

What's good for Icarus is good for Fallen Earth is good for me!!

If Icarus is making deals like this, it a) makes it more likely Fallen Earth will reach launch and b) possibly means we'll see it a bit sooner. The sooner Icarus has their flagship game out there, the sooner they can try to sell the engine to others.
