This game has alot of Enviromental detail it looks like. I wonder how the servers are going to handle when it is released.
Looks like it will be fun to explore in, although the game play does not really offer anything different then EQII or SWG.
I guess everyone is now trying to ponder "which MMORPG am i going to divulge myself into?" Well, what will be the swaying vote for you fans out there? Great detail and graphics? Great gameplay? A change from the normal Lord of the Rings spawn of fantasy and magic? I guess what im really asking is how many people are going to commit to this game in respect to the fanbase of Everquest or Ultima?
Another question i ask myself is what do i find myself doing the most when i play Everquest and Planetside. The Answer: Mainly just building a "Fantasmic Me". Since of course playing the game is all about me. Of course i do like conversing and adventuring with my new online buddies but for the most part i believe in a nice relaxing day where i can sit down at my computer and play untill my bloodshot eyes cannot stay open.
I am really considering hitting up L&D for my next epic gameing adventure, although i know it will be very rare for me to run into a fellow L&D'er in Real life where as Everquest is so dominating all you have to do is mention it in a conversation in a public area and someones ears will rise up to evesdrop.
So are there people like me who are Excited to see this game come out? or are you going to stick to your current RPG genre i.e. Everquest to Everquest 2 / Ultima to Ultima X.

Thats True, from what I have researched EQII is going to be more of a PvE system and some PvP options on different servers. But you see that is not what interest me. The compasion i'm thinking of is in the general foundation and graphics. Where EQII and D&L are set in a fantastical world with wizards / warriors / elves. Where new games like City of Heroes is going to be set in a large city and you get to play a super hero with certain types of powers or like Priest where the setting is based more on a horror story.
But I like how you think. Do you think you will be going to EQII because of the PvE based enviroment or will you ventrue to PvP enviroment of D&E?

Well, One huge sway point for me is that it is 1 universe!!
Too many times I have friends playing the same game as me, yet we aren't playing together. And, this just makes it possible for me to meet everyone who plays the game, not just the people on my server. Granted, I know I won't meet everyone!
Anyways,
I'm also a huge PvP fan. I'm not one who goes out and deliberately kills other folk, it's just the possibility that I may get slaughtered. And not to mention the huge adrenaline rush when you actually do encounter a PKer. There is nothing better than a PvP battle. Win or Lose.
To sum it up....I will be here February 1st. Exploring the Massive World of Dark & Light.

although they take place in a fantasy world, eq and dnl are quite different. read the dev-chat.

Personally I usually wander alone, I like to become a sort of "one man army". Then I play as a sort of merc. I don't know much about the politics side of the game, but it sounds interesting enough to give me something else to try to do. Though I really wish that you could pick a side that is neither light or dark.
I too wish you could chose a sort of "loner" role. Immediately chosing between Dark and Light isn't so bad, but the fact you can only kill those of opposition kinda takes away from the "open PvP". Granted the game is still PvP.
And this DOES give those who do not care for PvP an opportunity to stay away from it. They just have to stay deeper in their side of the world, and not venture near the borders.

yah i think it controls pvp pretty well but it controls it like a roleplaying game should in a roleplaying way.
-it may be a big deception for you but dnl isnt intended for 1rst february !
dnl is in beta for 6 months and it began in november 2003 .
furthermore ,it may also have delays like swg ...
-i m not sure but there will not be 2 separated sides >the dark and the light .everybody will be together in a unique world .
but ,if you declare yourself as a dark ,a light could kill you .( in daoc , all albion players are in albion land )
Hi,
i am on the lighter side (if i get into any beta : ) )
lets see how much of the things promised will get into the game..
Evan
Paragraph 1: That it does - by far the most powerful and realistic engine to-date used for online gaming purposes. I suppose when all is said and done we won't find out the answer to that until release... Though with the BigWorld technology they are using for their servers there should be no problems - I have yet to hear anyone (including outside sources not related to DnL) mention anything bad about it.
Paragraph 2: Yes it does look like it will be fun to explore this world... But I must disagree with you on the second comment. I think DnL is offering far more than EQ2 or SWG ever could. But that is all subjective - if you are looking for a game where everyone is segregated into seperate servers then DnL is not for you. If you are looking for a game where there are "zones" then perhaps you would find SWG and EQ@ more appealing. If you are looking for a game where the wind, rain, snow, hail, astronomy, and more is nothing more than a sound effect or painted onto the landscape/sky and will not have an impact on you or the environment then you will find that SOE does a much better job than NPCube. If you want obsessive-compulsive bragging grounds in an item-centric, non-ethical environment, where your items mean more than you do, then you will fit right into either of those Sony games. If you hate snowboarding, flying around through the atmosphere on a dragon or with a paraglider, being launched by a catapult, or simply can't stomache the thought of turning into a bird to fly around wherever you want then you should look elsewhere than Dark and Light. If you like companies with shady business practices and ethics who care more about money and making an extra buck than for making a quality game or taking care of you or your issues with the game or customer service, then Sony Online Entertainment will be perfect for you. If you like having a perpetual fog off in the distance so that you can only see about 500 meters instead of several miles of unmatched beauty and realism, then might I suggest looking elsewhere than D&L? If you will only ever play PvE and hate the thought of PvP - no matter how fun and challenging it could be - then I'm sorry to say that this is a toss up because DnL, EQ2, and SWG all have it. If you don't want a deep, complex, intrigueing PvP game where the outcome of a battle makes a difference in the world, but you do like PvP, then I would go for SWG because it has none of that. If you hate pesky GM's coming around and creating live content, cool quests, animating important characters and events, and creating immersive and involving storylines and epic adventures then you must turn your back on DnL right now. If you hate politics, kingdom management, or political strife then you will not find any of that in EQ2 or SWG. If you love exploring and ripping through all the content in a matter of months, only to wait for many more months for more content, lands, quests, and things to explore to be added then you will find SOE will satisfy your desires. All this is of course just a matter of personal appeal, but I don't think any SOE products can even stand up toe to toe with Dark and Light. Financially EQ2 will probably be much more successful than Dark and Light simply because of name/brand recognition alone - who ever has heard of the little (soon to be big) French company NPCube?
Paragraph 3: What will be my deciding factor? Quality (in all aspects), immersion, fun, gameplay, the developers and company building it, features, content, real and proffesional GM's, one 'world', game engine, graphics, and robust political/exploration/fighting/socialising tools and gameplay supported, among other things.
Just a few thoughts....
