Phantasy Star Online 2 has now entered open beta on Xbox One, but is the 8-year old MMO worth starting up? Steven explores this in his latest editorial.
im so happy its finally here.. throwing my money at them for finally deciding to do so. Really enjoying it on xbox. Cant wait for crossplay with PC with more friends
xbox first? WTF ! plebs before PC Master Race I cant believe it.
I can't say I disagree. It is going to run like a dream on PC, Xbox is alright, and I would probably still recommend a controller to actually play anything outside navigating the menus, but performance wise, PC is going to be so much better.
With everything going on, they should definitely rush the PC version.
I'll agree it's not for everyone. The thing I hate the most is how confusing some of the items you obtain are. It's a very new experience even though I've played all the other PSO and PSU versions.
I want to play this and I am hoping they release it on the PC at around the same time they release it on the console but I assume that's what is commonly known as a 'fat hope".
Any word on if you can use the same account across different playforms? Say, starting on XBOXone, then to PC with some playing on the Switch as well?
If not, I’ll just wait for the PC version.

It's supposed to be "Play Anywhere". Whether PS4 will be part of it, I'm not sure, but it's cross progression, so if you play today on Xbox you can play on PC when it releases.
This is probably old. Originally, many years ago, SEGA planned to bring PSO2 to the US, but after several months, they decided to cancel it, so at one point, it was canceled. That was before Microsoft sponsored it to get it here. It'll release on PC pretty soon, likely once Open Beta is over.
"...and it gives you the ability to put together a group of AI teammates so you can take on some of the hardest content solo"
Do you hear that AreanaNet?
haha They don't care though. Who knows, maybe we'll see a new Guild Wars with the best of both worlds. Doubt it, but maybe. I think we have a better shot at seeing PSO3
My sympathies if you're one of the few still running Windows 8.1, but that's the only other version of Windows still supported. When Microsoft launched Windows 7, they promised to support it for 10 years, and they kept up support for a little past that. They are not and should not be obligated to support it forever.

I don't blame them for dropping support. I blame them for making Win10 a pile of dog shit comparatively. I run 7 btw, not 8.1
On topic, I watched a few streamers playing the Xbox beta. Besides looking completely outdated, the game had continuous lag and hitches. And that was on every stream, so not due to one players box/connection.
It depends on a lot of things though. What version Xbox they were on, of they were in a crowded area, things like that. I have pretty bad lag when I load into the hub. I don't have issues in combat.
I'm really just playing now for the progress, I'm looking forward to the pc release.
There isn't a single Phantasy Star game that is an MMO. PSO2 does not support 100's of players. It doesn't even support large multiplayer numbers. Its simply not an MMO.

Kyleran on yours sincerely
'But there are many. You can play them entirely solo, and even offline. Also, you are wrong by default.'
Ikcin in response to yours sincerely debating whether or not single-player offline MMOs exist...
'This does not apply just to ED but SC or any other game. What they will get is Rebirth/X4, likely prettier but equally underwhelming and pointless.
It is incredibly difficult to design some meaningfull leg content that would fit a space ship game - simply because it is not a leg game.
It is just huge resource waste....'
Gdemami absolutely not being an armchair developer
Also, this site says the game is cancelled entirely.
