Can I have an option to block this bot? Seriously all the reposts are either pure empty calories, or rather like, 3months late. Now I just check whoever is posting before even click any "news" on the front page. Seriously, all this bot's posts could've JUST include the links and be done. There's 0 commentary or insights.

I want some opinions that may even sparkle some interesting conversations, not some "news" that sinks directly down to the bottom and just try to make the site more "lively" even though it really killed aspects of communication. Nobody has any interesting things to say about these empty reposts and I'm out of things to read.

I used to be on this site almost 24/7 and find myself very contented, and now I just think it's a waste of ram to keep this tab open.

If this old account gets like banned, I guess it's time to move on to some more interesting sites that actually have writers and folks that talk.

If they make the Light and Heavy attacks look, feel and sound more impacting, I might give the game another try. I like playing melee classes in most games so I really hate it when I hit mobs in ESO, it feels like I'm using an inflatable weapon.

I even tried playing as a caster, something I do when I'm totally desperate and bored with melee classes and I must say that it was actually even worse than melee - there is such a big time gap between attacks that it feels like a borefest just trying to play the game.

I just don't understand it. Fighting is the most common thing you do in 99% of MMOs out there and to mess it up so bad and not even attempt to fix it for so many years... that, I don't get.

Well, this seems to be posted yesterday, I don't know what you're talking about: https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/517545/pts-patch-notes-testing-ideas-for-light-heavy-attacks-in-combat And if you want a more credible MMORPG news website, go to MassivelyOP: https://massivelyop.com/2020/03/24/the-elder-scrolls-online-tests-adjustments-to-light-and-heavy-attacks-on-pts/ Apparently they also reported the same piece of news around the same time as well, so I guess beggars (like you) can't be choosers.

So you can't make that decision for yourself? You actually need someone to ban you before you leave? Weird.

ESO combat is horrible. It is mobile spammy skill system.. scrap the whole combat system and try something else. Tired of MMO's pretending giant numbers hitting for 5k at level 1 even fucking means anything

It's nice to hear. The animation-cancelling combat system isn't very good, it does indeed create a huge gap between the bottom and the top of players, leading to all sorts of other in-game, balance, and community issues.

I hope they continue with this effort

Meanwhile, the ESO forums are loaded with complaints about skills not firing, bar swapping taking 2-3 keys to activate, and now serious de-sync issues.

Lots of videos of people being killed far from an aoe. The players sees himself 100 ft away, the game has him in the aoe. Lots of dungeons can't be finished because you can't all position where you have to be.

The idea of an action MMORPG is that the player gets quick, arcade-like fighting, in a MMO world. But their engine just can't handle it.

So after 7 years, they are re-working combat so people don't press buttons as fast.

The issue with ESO's combat for me was never that I felt I had to work super hard and efficiently to perform well, it's just that it feels floaty and fake, like you're whiffing through ghosts and never making contact with anything. Blocking an enemy's heavy attack was the only audio/visual effect that actually felt like an impact. The little I played of BDO during a beta felt like similar action-combat with a much better feel.

But somehow the new crates and store stuff is added with government level quality control.

The adjustments they make always seem like a Pr move rather than a legit effort to improve their game but that's just my opinion. It kinda seems like when the complaints hit a certain threshold they make some minor change to keep up appearances all while planning and testing out the next year of cash shop additions.

I come here for mmorpg news. Did you just want the same information just paraphrased? I much prefer straight news without subjective commentary or insight. I can see adding broad-strokes of what the community may be saying good or bad about proposed changes - but you seem to want news to be the an opinion piece by the poster. There is a comment section for conversations.

I skip most reviews because I honestly don't care what writers have to say about games. I have specific tastes and look for specific things so I want hard information - not opinion, especially from people who could like the exact opposite types of games that I do.

People come here for different things and reasons and its okay. Attacking someone like this seems a little crazy and like this is about more than how someone posts news.

Personally, I would prefer actual mmorpg news is separated from mmo news. I doubt I am alone in this, but I am certain I am not with everyone either. For some crazy reason people like things I have no interest in, and the site managers ignore what I want and probably try to make the most people happy most of the time. I do find their love and protection of the CCP odd, but I'm sure Pol Pot has fans too. To each their own I guess.

Light and heavy attacks have had their damage and resource regen tweaked multiple times often with idiotic results where the light attacks were buffed to do damage almost on par with the heavies that were relegated to resource regen status. The latest? "Ooh, I know, I know. Let's make them light attack 3 times in a row to regen resource. Yeah that's the ticket."

Their constant tinkering over the years with radical balancing swings from one extreme to another has always made me feel that they've never really recovered from Nick Conkle's departure to join Riot. They show no confidence whatsoever in their balancing doing, undoing and re-doing the same balance changes every few months. Subtle balancing changes is just not in their vocabulary.

At least they've officially acknowledged (for the first time as far as I can remember) that the skill gap is too big.

Here's a thought: make attacks, heals and all other skills count at the end of the animation instead of the beginning and not at all if they're cancelled part way through. That still leaves cancelling out for legit defensive reasons to block or dodge or bash there as they should be but gets rid of gaming the game to cancel for no reason other than to fire off more abilities per second. Too simple?

The more I think about this the use of 3 light attacks for max resource regen as a tool for addressing the skill gap between lightning fast animation cancellers and those who don't, the dumber this idea gets.

Let me explain. ESO has 2 different types of animation cancelling:

    • light attack weaving where the animation of the light attack gets cancelled by using an ability and...
    • the more advance ability animation cancelling that can not be cancelled by light or heavy attacks - those are cancelled by either legit or fake (as in doing it into the air) blocks, bashes, roll dodges and weapon bar swaps.

The first type, light attack weaving, is very easy to do and many players just do it instinctively in the heat of battle without even knowing they're doing it because they just want to fire off their heavy hitting skills. But a lot of people struggle with the more advanced and much more powerful (because the effect of abilities is much, much higher than that of light attacks) ability cancelling.

What Zenimax in their wisdom, is doing here is closing the gap between casual light attack weaving and those, whoever they may be, (I presume total noobs that play really, really deliberately) that don't light attack weave, by incentivizing multiple light attacks in a row without weaving, to gain resource.

This of course does absolutely nothing to close the real skill gap between the expert ability cancellers and those who can't or don't.

What it will do is maybe close the skill gap a bit between total noobs and the barely competent and does nothing to close the real problematic skill gap that leads to all kinds of PUG bickering toxicity and exclusive invitations to raid.

    Dumb.

Once you have killed anything you've played the whole game, it's one massive starter zone. Why even talk combat in face roll game?
