You haters are slacking. Say it ain't so....

How about 'the game is poorly managed.'?  Will that suffice?

Oh, and here comes the weekly marketing video.  Buy more Ships!    We have years to go before we sleep.....

Poorly managed sure... They did transform a none existing company back in Nov. 2012 in a company valued by Independent Auditors to +460M$ back in 2018... twice the amount of pledges at this time? Developing not one but two ambitious triple_A's.

Publishers with their Billions of $ EVERY single year can't even manage to have what backers enjoy in SC Alpha.

CIG is providing weekly information about various aspect of the game development call it marketing at your leisure... That and several free weeks per year. CIG is the single company in the gaming industry that transparent... approved by +10.000's new backers at every new patch.

If only we gamer community, could had more incompetent like CR....

Marketing does not equal game management.  They've been promising game releases for years.   Continually had to walk back on deadlines.  And it will continue.  Perhaps Emperor Jones should've considered those difficulties at various points.  But Marketing requires that you continue to sell the dream.  That they are doing well indeed.

If the rest of the game industry had the 'Chris Roberts effect', they'd all be 5 years late, would've turned into different projects and would could hundreds of millions of dollars more than planned.

But hey, the Lugnuts are wonderful!

But, kvetching aside, the $35 to $50 dollar buy-in gamble is a decent deal.   Star Citizen will come out.   Just not anytime soon.   And when Squadron 42 doesn't hit beta as claimed, I am sure there will be a ton of excuses.  There always are.

There is one excuse backers are not ready to get:
"like ANthem and Fallout76 we decided to deliver an unfinished game with no ambition, crashing all time despite our past Billions $ of revenue every single year and thousands of devs. But hold the line, you will have a chance to buy every next yearr from now and for only 60$ + DLC's a game patched based on same assets. A warm thanks from all shareholders"

Its a crowdfunding project. No money, no game.

But they have enough money, no?
At least according to Chris Roberts, who has never, ever told any lies regarding funding, no sirree.
    https://www.pcinvasion.com/squadron-42-fund-star-citizen-cash/

“First of all, we always have a decent amount of money in reserve, so if all support would collapse, we would not suddenly be incapacitated. We plan the scope of the development based on what arrives monthly by the people to support. I’m not worried, because even if no money came in, we would have sufficient funds to complete Squadron 42. The revenue from this could in-turn be used for the completion of Star Citizen.”

That was over THREE years ago.

They still have enough money to complete SQ42.

    Your point ?

Yes, it takes longer than expected. No, i as a backer am not worried.

You have contradicted yourself. Either there is enough money now to fund the game (As Roberts has explicitly stated years ago), or there is no game (a playable tech demo, not a game), and in order for there to be a game there has to be further funding.

Well, thanks to the chumps I guess.  I was one of them too, at one point.

Surely, though, a man as visionary as Chris Roberts with this incredible a game could have gotten private funding instead of taking $250 million from backers?  But that would have meant the game would have had oversight, wouldn't have suffered from endless, monstrous feature creep and might have actually come out in a reasonable amount of time.

That's no guarantee. As we saw with Freelancer, Microsoft had to lay the smackdown to even get a finished product. Unfortunately, with no oversight, Roberts has effectively been able to squander a quarter of a billion dollars on a car-wreck of a vanity project, for 8 years. The sad thing is that graphically it is already starting to look dated, on an engine that can barely support 50 players, and with laughably bad A.I.
He has been quiet for months, so it's quite possible the Calders have more sway than is within the public realm.

    I did not contradict myself.

It is you that forgot that CIG is developing two games at the same time. A single player game (SQ42) and a multiplayer game (Star Citizen).

They for sure have enough money to complete SQ42.

However, the multiplayer game and its highly complex server technology is another beast altogether. The technical challenges faced bringing Star Citizen to fruition are the ones that cause the delays and increase the amount of funding needed.

As for playing the game ... i play it almost every day. And enjoy it. I did that for years already. You may keep repeating your mantra "There is no game!" .... i go and play and

It is so much of a "car wreck" that thousands of new backers join the project every month. After 8 years !

Why do they do not listen to you and your wisdom?

Why do fans post thousands of videos about the game "that is graphically already starting to look dated" ? And get tenthousands of "I like" clicks for it. Grafics which are being praised by the gaming press, in contrast to what you say. But HEY, what do those gaming journalists know about gaming compared to your wisdom?

Or *gasp* maybe many backers disagree with you? Maybe they think CIG can pull it off ...  and support a crowdfunding project with their money, no matter what you say ....

To each it's own, if you feel like a sucker you have only you to blame, work that out from within so you might find some closure somehow.

Not a sucker over this game, it's not one of the ones I pledged to.  It does make me sad, though, that backers have been separated from $250 million for a game that will never live up to most of their expectations.  Thousands of dollars on pixel space ships for some.  As you said, though, to each their own.

Feeling sad about things you cant control is just another way to fuel depression. People will always spend money on what they like and everyone expectations are just that, their own expectations. Just because they don't align with yours doesn't mean they are wrong. Just that they aren't for you and that's ok, I think you're just having trouble coping with the fact that you're bored and somehow attracted to this game. :)

Oh yeah, I am bored.  And I'll happily admit, if the game does release in a solid state and looks fun, I'll definitely play it.  After seeing all the crowdfunded failures and disappointments, though, I'm absolutely a skeptic.

Wait, people have given $250 million for the development of this game with no guarantee of the end result, and the skeptics are the morons?  Hahahahahahaha!

Ever consider that the smart ones might be those holding on to their money until they see a final, stable, fun product released?  After all, what's there to lose in waiting?  Those buying things now will have no advantage over those who wait, right?
That may have been the wrong choice of words.  What I meant, was "inb4 some idiot derails the thread immediately with some nonsense about there not being a game even though there are people playing it right now, it's just not released".

And for clarification, I am not like these other clowns who give CIG a free pass no matter what.  I haven't bought in and likely never will.

I understand.  Yeah, you can say what you want about the game, but they've gotten further along in development with a playable game than most of the crowdfunded efforts.  Of course, they also have 50 to 100 times the budget of most of those games.

There are so much shortcuts in your reasonning that I can't just agree. Current project does not cost more than others as they had to start from scratch (12 guys, no pipelines, 6M). When Publishers make a 50 or 60M$ game (+100M$ marketing) to be able to do it... they spend hundreds M$ overs years to create their company, hire thousands of devs and make up-to-date engine and pipelines.

There is no need for excuseS... Only one is valid and agreed by backers: do deliver an ambitious game we pledged for, but not before it is finished. Can SQ42 beta be pushed a few quarters? yes why not... and it does not matter.
