Automatic housing demolition is why I will never return to the game. I had a Large house (56,000,000 gil, iirc), and had to take a break for about 10 weeks, and they took it from me. No refunds, nothing.
FFXIV's housing is a debacle.

Same thing happened to me. This was when gil was actually worth a lot, coil pt 1 and the following raid. I will never play again because acquiring that much in game currency was a feat in itself at the time for one person heck even for a company. Their solution to the problem was half assed.
Then how long should SE allow you to have your home while not an active account/player?
Uh... infinitely?
Not with a finite amount of housing.
That has a quick solution. The FF universe is full of magic, they can easily have floating islands for infinite housing space that can be reached via teleport. Having limited housing that can be removed from people's account would make more sense in a free game where nobody has to pay for content IMO.

Or just make apartments bigger; easiest solution with the type of housing they implemented.
