There is no doubting the game looks great, but for me that's about it. Every ship still! feels like flying a paper plane, and either falls apart at the slightest hit or takes forever to damage. i'd say the game is at least 7-8 years away from release, if it gets there. Also i have seen a lot of people say, 'But they have raised over 250Mil, its going to be a huge success'. That money is long gone.
And before anyone says i'm just a hater or a troll, far from it. I backed the game in 2012 with huge hopes as i love space games. But 8 years with what seems to me a tech demo to show for it. I hope they do make it, maybe our children's, children can play it.
Not sure where all the negativity comes from in regards to this game. SC is one of the best massively multiplayer online loading screens on the market!
Considering the stage of dev as far content/replayability goes it's quite good to see over 10k players daily (minimum 10k as the stat is just who completes a mission).
You call Star Citizen this failed terrible game, yet it has higher activity numbers as an unfinished alpha than so many actually released MMOs around! Go figure!
Well, the last major patch has started to enable persistence so important data is no longer wiping every quarter what is making some people play it beyond just checking what's new.
This site users when a crowdfunded MMO isn't failing:
Whoa, so much wasted, pointless effort, who knew people would bother doing such?
I am not the least bit surprised.. you should see how people act out in CrowFall, the game is still Alpha, with a planned wipe when Beta launches and people have been losing their shit about their gear, avatar, campaigns, and the like.
Kinda glad Star Citizen has their alpha in a playable state as well, gives their backers and people that have been excited about the game a chance to get in there and get a feel for it, do some missions and whatever.
I just looked into this game, and it's not my flavor, but, I am glad to see things at this point where they at the very least have something in a playable state.

And Star Citizen as implemented recently back-end stuff to allow major patches to come without needing to wipe the stuff players bought and their money, so there more people playing more frequently.

Nice upgrade, I wager this will also boost their ability to patch the game on the fly, which will help in dealing with exploits and bugs down the line.. or is this just one of those "handy features" things, that has no real application other than to handy at the moment?

It's meant to respond to players having a point to play without facing frequent wipes.
Of course, this required the creation of the persistence backend for the game where more and more information exists beyond the game server you are on, and beyond major patches that require a level of reset. So likely a bunch of stuff especially exploits and unbalanced economy loops will start becoming more noticeable and easier to address.
There will be progression wipe sooner or later especially as the economy needs proper reset to decently test all the nuances but for now this already helps to play for buying a ship and so on without having to do it all over again the next patch.

So ideally this will be better for the game going forward.

Yeah, but you know I'm referring to the final wipe...and the start of the permanent game.

2 million missions and Zero progress in development.
LOL... a year ahead of roadmap, 3.9 in couple week not counting quarterly patch since years, SQ42 beta in few quarters... yes, clearly Zero progress...
A year ahead of roadmap? Easy to do that when they change the roadmap every week to push back the release dates of everything.............
Kind of funny, touting an unfinished game that most people have given up on. It just amazes me all the suckers that continue to fund this disaster.
In the meantime while they are waiting for that one game. I've literally played 5-6 MMOs from level 1 to end game. I gave up on waiting for that one MMO (cough SWG2) that would be the only MMO I would want to play. I've played many and enjoyed some great storytelling which beats playing pretend with assets in my opinion. To each his own I guess.
Hey @Erillion
you have been following the game closely for a long time. Do you know
off the top of your head how far behind SC is comparing to the original
project roadmap? Cheers, man.
>>>>
It all depends on whom you ask, as there is no publicly known "original project roadmap" from the start of the project.
Some adamantly instist on the "end of 2014" date from Day 1 of Kickstarter (which was waaaay obsolete already by the end of the Kickstarter a few days later).
Some people like me say "Its done when its done ..." (although i - in the beginning in 2012 - expected Squadron 42 to be out by now , so it certainly takes longer than expected)
Some keep showning CIG slides from 2015ish where it was projected to be ready in about one year (before all the technical issues of server limit multiplayer games and object container streaming and merging of instances raised their ugly heads).
Some say there is only one official roadmap, this one
