imageA Mount & Blade Noob's Take on Bannerlord

When the game released into Early Access earlier this week, I decided to jump in feet first. The short version of it is this: Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord could end up being one of my favorite games ever...in maybe a year.

It is like a modern update on Warband. It is janky with bugs but it will be good. As someone who enjoyed the last one I am enjoying this one right now and will enjoy it even more as they update it.

My one thing. No multiplayer campaigns. They already said impossible. If they had it I would never play any other game, ever.

    So many years for this?
    Really?

It's not a bad game but come on.

Thanks Mike. I've been on the fence about this one all week but the thought of having the campaign map ruined through no fault of your own would really suck. I'll wait another month.

Also like you, one of the earlier M&B has also been in my Steam library for years mostly untouched. Got it for less than $5 out of curiosity so no biggie.

I think it's all about the hours that you want to put in game.....

I've spent 35 hours on the first campaign, and still no snowball, and I realize that's in the minority of user experiences. What's worse, is that I can see it's about to happen, and I think the next 8-10 hours, and the game will end up with maybe 2 kingdoms left....so it's happening, just not as fast as others have experienced. That said, 45 hours of game play? Still worth my money, and I'll still dive into another campaign. Now with an MMO, I expect far more game time, same thing with games like Total War, but....the last few years with single player games, I've noticed I've either not finished, or done a single play thru of a game. No matter how good that game has been, I haven't put 40-50 hours into it.

That said, I put tons of hours into Warband, and I know that I'll drag out Bannerlord every now and then, and like anyone else, I'll enjoy it quite a bit more when it's feature complete, that said, it scratches such a unique itch, that even in it's current state, it's enjoyable as can be. Would I recommend it? Absolutely, but with that proviso that people understand it really is still Early Access.

All that said, I think TaleWorlds has be both surprised, and happy that it has sold as many copies as it has, and their work to produce a daily patch is admirable. Especially in a time like this, when so many people are looking for something to do. I sure hope that helps them do what they need to get the game feature complete in a reasonable amount of time.

I want to wait until full release. Don't want a half-finished product.

Agreed.I tried getting a refund but 2 hours over the max. Most of my 4 hours was in the menu. Not impressed.

Since I have the original M&B, I got 10% off on top of the 10% release window. $40 for this game is well worth it. 21hrs so far and that's twice, sometime 4x more than I spent on some others.

I think that's a pretty accurate review, however I'm loving it regardless. Even with the bugs and imbalances its still one of the best games I've played in a while.

low standards. I apologize but this game needs a lot more features and visuals to be considered good.

Nope. My standards are exceedingly high when it comes to games. Warband was a gem in the rough, and Bannerlord basically polishes that into a diamond.

Its not a AAA third-person rpg or a shiny new shooter, but the visuals are much better than in Warband and in terms of features, I mean I can't see how you can claim that it is lacking in that department. It has the same features as Warband, plus a whole new layer of character development, enhanced kingdom management, crafting, and probably more- its a big game!

There really is no other game that I know of that offers the experience of Warband/Bannerlord. And this version is so much more accessible and beautiful than the last one, its awesome. But I guess if you are looking for Anthem or Call of Duty or something you might be disappointed.
