New World Preps Explorers For Invasions In Aeternum
In a new blog post, the dev team behind the upcoming MMO New World detail how to deal with the deadly invasions which plague the eternal island of Aeternum.
10 people get chosen by the gov'na? Soooo if I'm not in the Super Friends Network then I get to tickle my own pickle?
edit: i see in the information containing blog post that 10 peeps get to be BFFs and the other 40 are chosen at rando. Looks like I will still be spending time with my pickle.
Still, regardless of the possibly of being one of forty random chosen, ten players chosen by the governor will probably always be friends that have the absolute ability to defend and thus get the rewards. Seems more than a tad unfair and an unnecessary mechanism imho.
So here is the big problem with their lack of foresight.
The penalties like downgrades can happen even though some..MANY players might be offline. So you might be the best contributor to the guild/fort yet go offline and you have no say in any of it.
Furthermore people tend to befriend like time zones,so if all EST and they get invaded late night,NOBODY might be on and vice versa for other time zones. It is a complete fail of a design because of NO foresight.
The idea of invading hordes is a great idea, the exact idea that i want in my mmorpg's.
So what are they banking on?Well the lame idea of everybody wins, everyone gets a reward is just lame.It really is reaffirming what i have been saying and that is the typical gamer is very superficial, show them some loot and they are sold.
The other issue i have is this smells a LOT like tokens=cash shop.So what they are doing is a feeler process,if the game doesn't sell enough copies, the cash shop comes roaring in full swing. No matter what i feel this is a big scam job because there will end up being a full blown cash shop on top of selling the game. Then 2 months later, the game is dead and they let people in for free in hopes of more cash shop use.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
Okay this is really getting strange now with the never-ending changing of the game.
I said it years ago but now more than ever it seems like the devs are just leeching that Amazon paycheck as long as possible and every time they come close to settling in on a final concept they change it to prolong development for "reasons". This game has been in development for 5 years now and they are dropping in this system that IMO is much worse than full loot PvP cause now favoritism, politics and possibly real money bribery/payments come into the picture. How long b4 someone sends nudes just to be part of the 10 person group? If they wanted to go full carebear why put something like this in which will lead to way more toxicity than being ganked and full looted.
Isit me or does this game keep changing ? First it was The New World , which is like America in the 15-1600's now it is full blown zombi apocolypse ? Or was the initial information has the game going in this direction the whole time ?
I think they don't know what the game is either.
What I know is that if the current alpha is any indication, they need all the time they can get cause currently it ain't enough, it ain't polished, it has no identity, and much much more....
(I am ashamed even to say this since it implies I was paying attention), but in the trailer they had all these knight types going towards some artifact like thing surrounded by statues may be and they started fighting to be the one that gets the gem and then there were skeletons and the character that finally got the gem turned into some possessed individual. So they had that set up already.
The blog about invasions came out on April 9th. This is old news and very subject to change. Also, Invasions is 50 players not 10.
The whole thing sounds good on paper, but we need to see how it actually plays.
The good thing is that its not like Events and World Bosses which are becoming the norm with these MMOs and other open world games. They suck in terms of enjoyable gameplay because its usually just random people trying not to get one-shotted by the boss.
In invasions, your 50 player team is transported to the Fort and it at least feels a bit like an instanced raid situation. There is about one day for some kind of prep before all this starts.
As someone who has been testing since the first alpha, this game is going to flop so damn hard. I would not be surprised if Amazon cuts their losses here. Then again they've got so much of it started already.....might as well see if they can at least get an initial return
For those that were asking...the beta is now scheduled for July.
If you were in early Alpha, the game has changed completely since then. If your still testing the game...I know your not allowed to say anything, but I assume the game is much more polished now and with better more interesting systems.

Just you. The "zombies" as you put it, have been in the game since Alpha...

I was in since the first Alpha too, current build is nothing like the first one.

That's why it's called an ALPHA. Thanks for coming out.
Why should failure be rewarded? And if they fail, what happens to their Settlement? Anything?

Way too frigging organized and not spontaneous and random enough. 50 people limit? Once a day? Sign-up board the previous day?
This was the bit where I lost whatever interest I still had in this game. I was perfectly fine with no dungeons and no raids as long as these invasions were well done - at least as well done as Rift did it 9 years ago but this is very small potato "invasions."
And yes this is old news. It was even linked here on the launch postponement news blurb, whenever that was.
Hard pass for me now.

Pretty sure there's a reason for no off peak hour raiding. That's the kind of element that ruins games, not exemplifies them. How stupid would it be for someone to just waltz up to an undefended Fort because it's 4AM on a workday for the defending company? That's the lamest PvP scenario imaginable. Whats the matter, don't appreciate fair fights?
WTF do the PvP scenarios have to do with scheduled daily PvE invasions?
Do you even know what this article is about?

Why should failure be rewarded? And if they fail, what happens to their Settlement? Anything?
Settlements are not the same as Forts. There are several settlements in each territory, all of which have houses players can purchase / own. If you own a house in a settlement, you gain the benefits that come along with being a resident of that settlement along with having to pay the taxes due.
Forts on the other hand are the overall controlling factor of a territory which the controlling faction must defend. Should an attacking faction defeat a controlling faction of a territorial fort, the new faction company now controls that territory along with all the settlements that reside within.
In essence, settlements are nothing more than player crafting / possibly trading hubs and get developed over time. Anyone from any faction can own a house in any settlement regardless of the controlling faction. Settlements will devolve over time if taxes aren't paid.
I don't like it.

I don't like Battle Royales either. Guess what, I don't play them.
I don't play BRs either. I have been playing Raid: Shadow Legends a bit, but it only has an Arena. And it does get boring after awhile. PVP doesn't really interest me too much unless the battles have an effect on a wider world. One of the reasons I have enjoyed single-player turn-based strategy war games & RTS games is because my choices and the outcome of battles would effect the game world. Though those kind of games are still not as exciting as they could be compared to a Massively Multi-player Online Role-Playing/Survival/Real-Time Strategy Game.

Do you even know what this article is about?
Well, I thought you were talking about the PvP raiding of Forts. Still, PvE invasions is pretty much the same as The Purge system in Conan Exiles. Again, you can't expect players to be online 24/7 to defend their Fort. What good is an invasion if no one is around to participate? Same pointless outcome as I pointed out in regards to the PvP Fort raiding.
Well if you weren't on your petty crusade to bash PvPers maybe you'd actually pay attention to what articles and posts are about.
Pointless is your obvious lack of experience with dynamic events in MMOs or why they're good things and should never be scheduled. Rift used player counts in zone as one of the factors used to determine if a zone invasion event would start or not. In ESO all dolmen dynamic events spawn the original mobs that just do their ritual and will keep doing that for hours if necessary until someone attacks them to trigger the event.
So bugger-off with your lame this and pointless that ignorant horseshi. You're just digging a deeper hole and making yourself look like an even bigger fool.

Dolmens are NOT dynamic. They are scripted and static. There are no dynamic events in any MMO except for maybe RIFT. Even GW2, which touted as having "Dynamic" events were still just scripted and repeatable events. Dynamic means world changing. That is impossible to achieve if the event simply repeats itself over and over.
So if we go by your definition of "Dynamic" which is the horseshit that game developers have brainwashed you with, that pretty much means any group oriented event in an MMO game world would qualify.
RIFT was probably the closest to having anything even remotely close to being considered "Dynamic" but that's about it. Except for maybe that old MMO once known as Firefall. That had a similar "Dynamic" design theory like RIFT.
So, please excuse yourself from your imaginary pedestal of insight, before you pretend to fall and injure yourself like a NBA drama queen.
Dolmens in ESO scale themselves on the fly with respect to quantity and strength of mobs depending on how many players are nearby.

I'm not seeing "the world changing" part of the definition you pulled out your ass there. Do you see it?
So back to the stupidity of what you said: "What good is an invasion if no one is around to participate?"
Smarter people than you figured that one out years ago: they don't happen if the required triggers (such as population) are not present... duh.
Keep on digging your hole deeper lol.

I see @Rhoklaw on top of Rozinante with his broken lance charging again defending another hopeless game. Then he will back a few months later lamenting about how the game mislead him.
