They're gonna go back and put the voice acting in the update when this situation ends, but I feel like they could just delay it's release a bit to get a better gauge of when that might be.

Sounds like they waited till the last min to do the voice part, probably would have been delayed even without house arrest.

As someone whose done voice acting and is familiar with the process, I don’t think they’re being honest about it. It’s quite easy to get high quality audio. Probably just cutting costs and don’t want to admit it.

They have their own sound production studio in their studio in Seattle and they strive for a particular quality in the recording. Could be that a few folks involved don't want to take the risk for one reason or another. I'm sure they could do placeholder VO, but why waste money on that if you are going to replace it eventually?

I don't know how anyone manages to get past level 20 or so in this game without getting bored.  Oh, well.  Different strokes for different folks I guess.

Bullshit! Skyrim modders get it done in their basements. Yeti mics don't cost that much....but voice actors do. These people are pros. Are you saying they don't have their own studios / equipment? FFXIV is delaying it's content release.

GW2 is done. Get your forks.

Iguess "normal" people used the boost :P Agree, one of the worst mmorpgs to level in. Grinding mobs is even more fun and that is boring as hell

I really got tired of fighting centaurs and bandits in the first zone.

They could do the voice acting sitting at home, the quality might not be the best but it could stand in for now.

That's how usually voice acting goes, because you could always change the story during development. And it makes no sense to record lines you are never going to use.

Umm ... maybe go to the next zone? Usually the type of enemy changes with zone. Even race. Norns don't meet bandits and centaurs at all. I'm not playing the game actively either but that's just a bullshit excuse for internet points.

No, it's not.  Maybe I got a little more tired of it because I started a different character after returning to the game.  (After a year or so?  I don't remember.)  And I didn't like the other races.  Anyway, why are you upset?  That's how I felt.

I did get to the next zone eventually.  And I think maybe the next zone after that.  But I didn't feel motivated to keep playing.  It wasn't exciting or interesting to me.

I think that's about right. I know for my own work I have changed lines over and over and stopped doing anything with the recording until the writing was set.

WOW - peeps. They are trying to deal with reality. It is not as bad as all that. I give A.Net credit, at least they are trying to move forward in these times. They are not soft pedaling, just saying they are trying to do the best they can.

A.Net right now is damned if they do, damned if they don't.

Why would they delay release when so many folk are at home due to lockdown and they're likely to boost active usage by taking advantage of the opportunity to release new content during this time? No one's forcing folk to play through the new content before voice acting is included.

You do not have to play another race to play another race's starting zone. So yeah, it's still a bullshit excuse. The game offers multiple maps for each level range so that you can pick your own preferred progression path. Or you can even level in WvW or PvP without doing any PvE maps at all. It has an excellent leveling experience and does everything it can to be flexible for the player and accomodating of replays; it isn't the game's fault if you do not take advantage of that or if you still don't enjoy leveling.

I do not like the Sylvari starting map (actually, I don't like the Maguuma jungle in general). I play a lot of Sylvari. I just go to the human or norn starting maps that I do like.

The Sylvari story really ties into GW1 with the Ventari Tablet, etc. I just wish Trahearne wasn't a sylvari.

Not all voice actors have the material to do voice recording at home.

And I don't think any video game company wants to double their VO budget either, as they would have to pay the cast twice (VO work is paid per block of 4 hours).

Right. And it's also substantially harder to issue proper voice direction in this environment. I'd rather have no voice acting than have them waste money on bad voice acting.

Well push it back then for how long two months? MMOs do that all the time, hardly a big deal.

If they did that, the same ass-munchers on these forums would be calling the content delay yet another sign of post-layoff weakness. They are in a lose-lose position here.

Because they are arm chair developers and think they know how to develop games. Just like arm chair quarterbacking. All nonsense.

As I said before - Damned if they do, damned if they don't.

And why do you suppose that is?
Because this site is populated primarily by angry boomers who desperately miss the good ol' days of UO and SWG, and they've arbitrarily picked this game as their hate-bandwagon instead of the many, MANY WoW clones that actually oversaturated the genre and caused the MMO bubble to burst.

    Good enough explanation?
