It looks like Guild Wars 2 suffered account rollbacks which affected at least the EU region.

    Rollbacks happen. It's actually pretty reasonable that they've had what... 2 rollbacks in almost 8 years of service? 

    And this one is only for EU. I'm curious as to what the story is here.

    Sounds like an inside job,someone wasn't happy about something and rolled it back.A rollback doesn't just happen on it's own,computer code only does what it is told to do.The fact that SAME code did not act the same in different regions makes it all the more obvious that somebody inside did this.

    But.....we can expect some fabricated story to arrive,the code just acted on it's own ..lol,a bug in the system,yeah because there are little bugs running around in computer code.

    i dunno... if ya ask me the whole gaming industry has gone to shit really....it just seems like everyone made there millions from 1984 to 2020...and now just dont have the drive to keep it going anymore!
    think about it....all out past great game designers and coders..have either quit died or moved on to other projects....the only great that i know of thats still in the game and on point ..is yoshi p
    so ps5..xbox x......i dunno....i mean with all this corona crap screwing up everything
    who knows now......everything now has been pushed back release dates
    hell i tried to get an nvidia sheild.....and thats even on back order now.

    People are so funny. You do not have to buy anything in the in game store to play the game. Buy the game and play. 

    Again, it is damned if you do and damned if you don't. 

    I wonder how many of the people complaining about GW2 and A.Net actually bought into Star Citizen, CoE, or one of the other games like that? At least GW2 is a REAL game, not a glorified test bed.

    Umm, Arenanet literally pay for backup servers so that their updates are seamless and their players have as little inconvenience and downtime as possible.

    They frankly spend too much on infrastructure to their own detriment. They don't have to do that. WoW charges its players for the privilege of playing, has downtime for updates (that you are paying for through the sub) because they DON'T pay for backup servers like Anet does, and still has the shitting gall to have a cash shop.

    not trying to sound like a dick but how would you know what their budget is?

    Oh, how about the publicly available financial reports released every quarter? The game isn't raking in what you think it is.

    EU servers have been having issues for weeks now: latency, lags and connectivity. The crash was probably just the end results of whatever was causing those issues (smell like dying hardware) and people ended up logging on some 2 days late backup afterward for a few hours until Anet shut EU down.

    GW2 is hosted on AWS, which means Anet is limited when it comes to fixing anything hardware related and AWS has been getting more and more garbage...

    I've played this game off and on since pre-launch and I gotta say it still runs like crap. The engine has always been garbage. ESO over 100 fps everything maxed out, GW2 lucky to get 60 in crowded areas with everything maxed, so most times you gotta turn it to potato to actually play with no lag.

    don't even know where to go for that. However, their in game cash shop is outrageous. I'll leave it at that. I feel like I'm nickled and dimed for evertyhing there. Want to craft ascended, once a day. Can't find your mats....never mind. You're obviously a fan boy and I no longer want to discuss this with you.
    You're the one who threw false accusations.

    By all means, criticize the game. It is far from perfect, and the cash shop is far from perfect. But criticism should be aimed at things that a game actually does wrong, and skimping on infrastructure has never been one of them.

    This thread is about them having issues resulting in a rollback.

    You used it to critize the cash shop instead.
    Then you turn this into you having an issue with the crafting limitations and being unable to find mats although they are dirt cheap on the tradeposts.

    I think he brought up some valid criticisms (though this wasn't the place for them).

    I also don't necessarily reject the fan label. We are all fans of something (otherwise, why are we playing games at all). 

    The unacknowledged flip side to fan status is that your experience makes you knowledgeable to criticisms that others might not bring up. I've certainly voiced my own fair share of critique of the game on these forums.
