Biggest Disappointment: In a word - Sony

Does this surprise anyone?

From:

CNN Coverage

"Biggest disappointment

In a word: Sony. From its long and
boring conference to its so-so game lineup to its steep price ($499 to
$599, depending on the configuration), the PlayStation 3, due out
November 17, failed to impress at the show.

No, this isn't the
end of the No. 1 console maker by a long shot, but many attendees were
left scratching their heads on what happened with this Japanese giant.
Regarding the price, gamers are forced to pay for the ability to watch
high-definition movies on Blu-ray discs -- even if they're not a film
fan. And what if Blu-ray isn't the winner of the format war against the
HD-DVD?

Expect Sony to bounce back at E3 2007 (especially after
game designers have had enough time with the high-end hardware) but the
PS3 was without a doubt the most disappointing of the three consoles at
this year's expo."

It wont be, the incompetence of Sony and the PS3 shows this already.

Did BETA MAX have a 2nd wind? Didnt think so.

You can thank Nintendo for this, by not only proving to the world that their idea does, and will work, but by having playable demos of 22+ different games, as well as videos with actual gameplay footage. Sony can also blame themselves by trying to attract everybody with CGI videos of MGS4, FFXII, FFXIII and Tekken to name a few, which show NO actual gameplay, showing us what we already know and have seen before, and proving to the world that Sony thinks graphics make a console and games, <insert another Nintendo refrence here>.

Beta Max had more of a second wind than you think. While it was not the format for personal use, it continues to have heavy use in the professional media world. Sony made serious bucks there.

I am not all that impressed with what I have heard about PS3, but I will admit I am not a console player. I would guess that parents will not be so quick to drop more money on PS3 if other consoles, like X360, are as good, if not better, and are available at a better price. I think the line-up of available games, costs and services will  be part of the overall decision when the time comes.

The most stupid thing Sony has done with the PS3, is jack up it's costs by INSISTING Blue-Ray tech be included, even though NO GAMES WILL BE AVAILABLE ON BLUE-RAY. That's right, all the games will be on regular DVD.

Remember, the cheaper model doesn't have Blue-Ray, and NO developer will limit their potential sales by only releasing a game on BR, and what company would develop 2 versions, one BR & one DVD? Why develope a version of a game that's not nesessary?

So basicly they've artifically inflated the overall costs of their machines so they can try to shove their tech down people pie-holes. And if you don't think that BR hasn't increased the cost of the cheaper PS3, think again. The cost of all of the additions you get for that $100 is well over $600, and those who buy the cheaper console will be footing the bill.

I'll start my own SWG... with Black Jack... and Hookers!!!

    In fact, forget the SWG!!!!

looks like everyone has forgoten the golden rule with anything involving Sony:-

Sony know what we want, we do not!

I used to always buy the Sony console as well as Nintendo's, but from now on i will not be buying anything to do with Sony whenever possible.

    Nintendo/Xbox FTW!!!

I haven't played a console game in decades and I don't know why anyone would. PC games are vastly superior to console games.

I'm sorry with the exception of SWG of course.

Wrong. Im talking about GAMEPLAY, like somebody is actually PLAYING the game, not some predesigned video. Go back to the General Discussion forum and start another "im gonna bitch about X game" thread.

I was refering to the actual use in the home, not big business. There was no 2nd round for BETA in the home, it was there and gone the next day.

wich was to bad because beta was superior to vhs in everyway, only thing that brought down beta for the masses was greed.

Lol I had my SWG account banned for 3 days because I wanted an answer from Garva about the article... He kept giving some half assed spin with no answer what so ever in it... I see if we ask stuff intelligently it jsut pisses them off more.. Oh well...

Tell that to my butt and the comfy chair I sit in when playing a console game.  Don't forget the fact that my friends can come over and join me in a few multiplayer games and have a good time IRL.

Don't get me wrong, I like both PC and console games.  But they each have their own good points.

Wow, I definetly have to agree here. I havnt really sat down and played my Gamecube for awhile, and before my PS2 broke the only game I really played was FFX, and I really miss playing my consoles, which is why im really excited about the Wii. PC's may have more vast and indepth games all around, but the stability of consoles and being able to play them just about anywhere and comfortably holds just as much, if not more water.

lol ... i bet sony wishes they never screwed over the star wars fans ... the negativety has just been trickling down ever since ... as if the SWG refugees "willied" sony's demise

Actually what i think it is.... SOE screwed over the "vets" / "Vocal Minority" to gain the gimme gimme now crowds... What they failed to realize is the "vets" are more willing to speak up and out to everyone who will listen, while the kids get bored and just go do something else...
