Best E3 video I've seen so far.

And anyone who thinks those models resemble the EQ2 models are on crack or have never played EQ 2.

If you want to have a look at some REAL horse movements then you should scrap this crap game and take a look at Age of Conan, which is in fact the game Im going for now that SOE is involved with Vanguard.

    This is a real horse

Its cool to see that the horse is actually leaning into the curves and yanking in the reins, like a real horse would do. Not like the stone brick with fur in the Vanguard movie

It is the best video I have seen as well.  The quality of the video is what amazes me the most.  Most videos of someone watching a monitor screen look pretty bad.  But the quality here is very good.  Like always I am very impressed with Silky Venom.

Btw Droigan have you seen any coverage of Vanguard from mmorpg.com.  They are the only major site not to have any coverage.  They had Vnaguard ontheir pre-E3 coverage.  It is supriosing there is nothing.  I have long suspected that mmorpg, com is a but biased towards pvp type games in their coverage.  But I still expected to see ssomething on Vanguard.

And people complain about the VG animations?

Don't get me wrong. The animations were fluid in AoC, but there were 3. 4 if you could the attack from the horse.

    Very unimpressed.

But yeah. Saying "Now that SOE is with Vanguard they suck" is quite stupid. But I'm not going into that again. Personally I'm starting to regard it as the mmorpg version of darwinism/natural selection. Weeding out the dolts even before the game goes live. Quite satisified with that.

The Conan video does look nice.  I don't think you can say the horses look any better or worse from the video than the ones in Vanguard.  I like many of the previews I have seen from Conan and I like Funcom.  I am rooting for both games to do well.  My biggest problem with Conan is who they appear to be targetting as thier audience.  With their M rating, head chopping, gore and bar room fights they appear to be targetting the immature 18-25 year old kiddie market that causes so many problems in other games.  Regardless I hope the game does well just as I hope Vanguard does well.  A couple of superficial observations I noticed about the lead designer.  While he appered knowledgeable and it was obvious English was not his main language his use of kiddie slang and his awful grammar, made him appear very unprofessional.  He also looked and sounded a lot like Austin Powers.  He would be faboulous if he used fake Austin Powers teeth for his interviews.

Settle down there, grandpa. "Kiddie" market....as if the senile elite are the primary market for video games in general. Shouldn't you be off being responsible and voting for crotchety old conservatives or something?

=)  I'm just stirring up shit.

Well VSoH is just another spin off the Everquest Line anyways, it will be there, but still with the EQ Mentality.

I played Anarchy Online and pretty much geared to a older crowd as well for the Sci-Fi setting. There is nothing wrong with kids, but the fact remains, it does have a M rating and will be harder to kids to get it by their parents. (Depending on what kind of parents they got of course).

But yeah, I like to get away myself from the EQ, EQ2, Horizons, AC, WoW and now the future VSoH that cater more to the different audience as well.

Darkfall, Warhammer Online and Age of Conan. Sound a little better to me. More of a Dark setting.

Besides VSoH will fall into the same categories like Everquest anyways, where the world is nice and pretty imo.

    Meh?

"Mature" rating only means that there's a shit ton of blood and violence...which means that it is probably more geared towards those "kids"...

Even though a game like Vanguard will probably recieve a "Teen" rating, it's game play and features, it's content, is geared towards "Core gamers"  And, because of the fact that it is slowed down and requires more attention paid, I'm sure it won't appeal to the twitchy ADD kids that have been plauging the more mainstream MMOs to date.

whatever.. i knew someone would post ASAP to my comment anyways, it was predictable, but if you think kids would like blood and gore, what kid woundnt.

But you think there targeting more to kid since they got a M rating (dont think so)? Or do you just mean since it has a M rating more KIDS would want it?

Whatever the fact remains, it will be easier for kids to get VSoH than AoC past their parents.

AoC, WO and Darkfall are gearing for a different type of crowd instead of the PvE aspects like VSoH.

Well...I mean, this is a discussion board, so yeah...people tend to respond when you post things =P

It's funny though...because all of the VG:SoH fanbois keep cheering that Vanguard is going to be a game for mature players. What I've seen of AoC and the others really don't seem to be being "geared" toward a different crowd. When they run advertsiements, they aren't going to be advertising for AoC in AARP, they'll do it in Computer Gaming magazines, and such. They'll advertise on webpages like this...and if and when they advertise on TV, I'm pretty sure the advertisements will not come on in the middle of CSI: Miami or Law and Order: SVU. The advertisements will come on when all the other video game advertisements come on. It's the same market.

As far as the gameplay, there's no one game play style that "adult gamers" perscribe to. That's like saying that everyone or the majority of people above the age of 25 like the color green. It's more of a personality and preference issue. Perhaps more "mature" players will gravitate to particular gameing types and platforms, but that couldn't have anything to do with age.

And lastly, though SOME might pay special attention to the video game ratings, and whatnot...I wouldn't suspect that many above the age of 13 or 14 would have to worry about it. I was buying my own games before that age with my birthday and christmas money, all it takes is a trip to Target...that, and well...I seriously doubt that the majority of America, the most violent of the modern societies of the world, are nearly as prudish and some would make them out to be.

Not really, because as the gaming world has shown time and time again, parents are morons.

And as to the EQ mentality, the old EQ, that was where the good communities came from.  A HELL of a lot better than the communities spawned in games such as WoW.

If one likes Sci-fi more, that is a personal choice, I don't so I could never get into AO (not to mention I did the mistake of trying it first with the horrible launch).

But the M rating in Conan WILL attract "kids" and people with a "kid" mentality to it.

If you go in and sell a game as "brutality/gore" as a feature.... that's not much i terms of actual gameplay, but it is enough for people to go "ohhhh, beheadings. hihi coooool".

Don't get me wrong, I believe AoC will be good, at least I hope it will be. But Vanguard is much more inclined to suit what I want in a game. Challenge, innovative combat system and good graphics (I was not really into the AoC ones, and I don't like the cartoony style of LOTR and Warhammer (warhammer looks like WoW with added bloom effect)).

When I said Conan would attract immature  kiddies I meant 18-25 years old kiddies.  Sorry I have different definition of kiids.  The young ones below 18 imo don''t cause near as much trouble as the louder 18-25 year olds that have the constant need to express themselves in the most obnoxious way possible.  Sorry about the term kiddies and I didn't mean offense but I just don't consider 25 year olds normally mature or even adults at such a young age.

Of course you wouldn't, that's the way of the world. We all look down upon those younger than us. I find myself doing it all the time. And I'm sure those in your parents generation occasionally look at you with spite, and they didn't understand the music YOU listen to either, at some point. The key though, is keeping that sort of garbage to yourself instead of spewing it all over forums. You never know if you might piss off a future Hitler who'll turn this into a Logan's Run World.

Its not looking down on young people but just recognizing that they lack the life experiences, work expereinces and maturity of adults. Young people live in a different culture which has different ideas as to what is acceptable and what is not.  Simply pointing out that Conan is being targetted more towards immature gamers aged 18-25 is not putting down anyone.  Rather it is stating that one should expect a less mature community and climate when playing such a game.  Does that mean acting like a typical 25 year old is wrong.  No of course not.  But much of what they may feel is acceptable behavior is not acceptable in what might be considered more of an adult culture.  People in their 20's very often have a strong need to be prove they are better than others, that they are right  or that thier ideas or lifestyle is right.  Often they take offense at being called immature.  My apologies if anyone is offended because there is nothing personal here. I tend to think of the differences not as right as wrong  or who is better but more simply as cultural differences.

But if we are talking about people that cause trouble in MMO's I would much rather have the 13-16 year old in my game any day over the 18-25 year old.  Simply because in general the 13-16 year old as not as loud as the 18-25 year olds and don't have the same overwhelming need to be right and to tell other people they are right.  Call it a rebellious phase or whatever you might call it but its the 18-25 year olds that typically cause the most problems expressing themslves in the loudest and most obnoxious ways to call attention to themselves.  Does that mean they are bad people.  Again, no of course not.  It just means they are young and acting their age.  Unfortunately, they are annoying and their actions have the effect of driving good from people from games and destroying communities.

I've just never understood the whole "For mature audiences" and "Mature gamers" point of view. Gaming is a leizure activity that is almost exclusively for, and definately considered to be by a vast majority of peers on both sides of the age spectrum, for the 13-25 age group. So to say that a particular game is aimed at them, and then form some opinion about that game based on that fact, my response to you is "Well...no duh."

Gaming, for as long as it exists, will continue to make titles that are extremely attractive to that age group, because well...there's no way to "target" any other age group than 7-10 and 13+ the types of games that appeal to people at the age of 45 will be the same types of games that will appeal to a 18 year old, because at heart we all have the same dreams, we all want to be badass, and we all want to be a Jedi. So, for as long as you are playing MMOs you will always be playing with people from the 15-25 age group, unless its the law and you have to show ID.

And, so here is the part where I bestow advice: Don't sweat it....don't even consider it when picking a game, because the majority of players in all MMOs will more than likely be 18-25. <3 and god speed.

Again I would diiagree the average age according to one study of WoW gamers is 28.3.  http://www.nickyee.com/daedalus/archives/001365.php I am sure WoW is on the low end of the average age.  I remember back in early EQ1 the average age was suppsoed to be 28.  Gamers have only gotten older since EQ's release.   Interestingly studies also show there is no difference in average playtime per week whether your old or young or male or female.  The average WoW gamer plays on average 22 hrs per week.

Conan horse seem to be slightly better because it was motion captured. I wish vanguard would adopt that - I hate how horses run fast but their body-movements are so slow. Im hoping BOTH will be great games, but will be different. That way I can play different game each month. I get bored playing same game with a different title.

I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.
