So it is P2W. This game is DOA. Why play this when you can play alternatives that are not P2W?

It's free, I'll try it out. If it's no good I'll delete it. Nothing lost.

Played the alpha and game was pretty good so why not play for free anyway. It's a game you can play solo so ptw isn't a real thing.

LMAO,this dude is actually trying to downplay their monetization as being FAIR,so sad.

They are selling "booster packs"so yeah cards like these type of games have always done.

Someone should have asked WHY monetize it at all,why does it need to be monetized, why can't they make a game, sell it and that is it?Well the simple si it is MUCH more lucrative a SCAM to sell cards and YES it most certainly is a p2w POWER curve.

CLaiming a player can experience the entire game for free is utter BS,no more than any tcg claiming you can play for free. There is a HUGE difference between login and playing and actually PLAYING which would involve a 100% FAIR platform across the board for ALL players and not just those that spend more money.
Well good job WOTC/Hasbro,it is all i needed to know because i will never spend another dime on card packs.

There is a proper and fair way to deliver a game and WOTC does not understand or want to be a part of that FAIR delivery system.

I think Warhawke80 was arguing that the game isn't DOA, not that it isn't pay-to-win. I think he's likely correct about that.

Hardly...both Neverwinter and STO have similar business models and they rake in a metric shit ton of cash.

Yeah I am sure all 17 people who play those games are spending tons of money. Firstly, right out of the gate they said in that blog post that you won't ever pay for new content. Then later in the blog post they contradicted themselves and said you would be able to buy new classes and new abilities that give you unique gameplay. Even if the game is 100% balanced, giving players abilities that other players don't have is P2W because there will always be certain situations where one ability is stronger then the other. The reality is that they won't be even remotely balanced and people who opt to pay to get the new abilities will not only have more gameplay options (Classes) but will also have a gameplay advantage. Not to mention that on top of that it will have a Battle Pass AND loot boxes. (Booster packs)

Have you ever heard of Magic the Gathering and its Boosters? Is that "p2w" as well?

buying their card pack is also like loot boxes, you never know what card you are going to get lol

Come explore the iconic world of Magic the Gathering...with booster packs.

I dont like it when good franchises get raped like this.
The franchise practically invented the booster pack though.

Perhaps when Celcius said "DoA", he was referring to player base size and/or whether the game will be fun for most people (or at least, people like Celcius and many others).  Games with whale P2W cash shops can often rake in lots of money while also having a pathetically small player base and doing so at the cost of the game's fun factor (like in some cases making it more grindy than it should be to encourage players to buy EXP potions)

Yep - if you have a lot of gamer friends - chances are you know at least one guy who spent 1000s of dollars into booster packs

    Yep!
Or on specifically buying rare and powerful cards.

My SWTOR referral link for those wanting to give the game a try. (Newbies get a welcome package while returning players get a few account upgrades to help with their preferred status.)

I forget which person at Cryptic previously worked at Wizards of the Coast on Magic: the Gathering, but I think it was this particular Executive Producer.

You guys clearly know what Magic: the Gathering is all about, and you guys clearly know what Cryptic and their games are all about, yet some people continue to claim that somehow Magic: Legends is going to be different?  Why?

MTG is a trading card game. They are physical cards you can trade with others to get the cards you want. These cards actually have a resale value as well and some a lot.
I played MTG for many years and at most spend a couple hundred bucks max over the years. Got most of my cards through trading and played tournaments and even won some.

These Cash shop / Loot box games are just scams. These virtual goods hold no value other than your money ending up in the pockets of the Scam artists PWE / Cryptic. All they do is suck you dry of cash with hardly giving any in return or not at all. These loot boxes are just a nasty gambling scheme. Nothing more. Nothing less.

That is the big difference here.

The only thing setting this game apart at all is the IP without the Magic The Gathering name on this it would be a generic nothing.

No loot. Random abilities. Heavy P2W. Bait and switch advertising calling this an MMO.

Remove MtG from this and nobody would care about this at all. I think it's a good case study in how to not design and advertise a game.
