Dual Universe is one of the most anticipated space MMORPGs in development right now. With a new subscription model coming in August and boasting a bevy of options in the way that you can build and interact with the world, Novaquark was kind enough to bring us in to watch a full-scale PvP space-battle unfold, and answer a few questions along the way. Will Dual Universe's PvP scratch that space battle itch?

Just going to play Eve Echoes. It's a lazy man's game with spurts into the hardcore IMO. If I want to for the tedious parts I can just leave my PC and stare at my phone for an hour instead. Good for the back and wrists, bad for the eyes. ^^

Devs got some crazy ideas on PVP, article on MassivelyOP went into some details about how players will be entirely blind going into a fight on the combat capabilities of their opponents as well as no form of hit or damage indicators outside of visual queue as such as seeing holes in the hull or what not.

Heck, even 50 years ago the Enterprise had sensors and scanners which could tell such info, it's like the devs team here never watched a space combat show or played such a game.

They are building a 16th century naval fleet simulator apparently. Will be weird to see space ships with windows...

    ;)

What's equally interesting, article comes out saying 'Star Citizen developer farts', and forum boards and comment pages will have dozens of not hundreds of comments.

Here two sites post in depth articles about actual first hand observations of in game ship to ship PVP combat....and what is the response so far?

    Crickets.

Seems to be a notable lack of interest, perhaps this team needs to hire a celebrated, or even notorious development lead to generate some 'buzz' around the game.

Wonder what Derek's up to these days?

Whenever i read PVP Mmorpg i ultimately loose interest instantly. Means to me the PVE part is noth worth it and since im not interested in PvP means to me the game is of no interest to me.

Seems like they quote the freeform DIY ship building as the reason for it. I guess it makes sense design wise if they want to make things more unpredictable and encourage players to depend on visual inspection instead of UI feedback.

Or it is just lack of dev resources in creating the UI for the feedback.

If this ends up enhancing the gameplay experience I would not be too obsessed that it seems oddly "untechy". Otherwise, they could always add UI elements for damage indicators etc later on. It is easier to add a feature than to remove it.
See the thing is, it appears there's quite a bit of player effort to build these ships, which means no one will want to risk loosing them on an ill advised fight.

I believe a lack of decent Intel will make players more inclined to turn to the standard means to ensure an overwhelming win, the Zerg.

No way will I risk a capital level ship if I have almost no idea my opponents capability, unless of course I bring with it and overwhelmingly large support fleet to cover it.

And if I'm on the other side, when that big arse fleet shows up, unless I know I  can match in kind I'm even more likely to flee to fight another day.

The best fights in EVE happen when both sides believe they can win depending on how the tactics play out.

Less info means fewer fights I think, not more as the devs seem to be hoping for.
