Hadn't paid much attention to Ashes of Creation until after watching this informative conversation. It's a breath of fresh air to hear a developer genuinely speak their mind.
Amazing interview/talk. I do love Steven's passion and ambitions towards this project. If they can pull off those ideas and polish the overall clunkiness, I feel this game will succeed big time when it finally launches.
I'd like to get some personal questions answered, such as "will bosses be fully scripted and repeatable mechanics-wise
(I.e. Guild Wars 2), or will they pretend to be smart and vary their actions/movement based on current situation. For example long time ago I played Tibia and there was this cool system, where when a boss spawned randomly, it could just waltz around the area if unbothered.
Anyway, since around May they are really getting more confident with openly talking about the game, which is satisfying. I wish this game the best and I hope to still have enough spare time to properly enjoy MMO like this in coming years, because it looks like a damn huge time-sink with all those progression systems and world size.
What's sad and REALLY confusing is this guy sounds about my age. Which means he got to see all of the REALLY amazing games while growing up, the best of the best, games that will probably never EVER be forgotten. And even with such an advantage of knowing what makes a game great, he STILL manages to fail.

IDK something smells off here with these popular streamers that never care about games outside their bubble.
Even so this game is trying to mix two elements but imo is mostly a pvp game, very similar to how TNW started out.
The Corrupted system is likely a quickly thought of idea but likely won't be a deterrent at all.In a lot of ways this is TNW in a very similar fashion.
IDK about others but i have NO interest in any game that allows a player to be the ruler and set taxes on me or control areas and limit where i can go in a game.
Overall this game is trying to do too much and will end up being a jack of all trades and good at nothing. So they got some decent ideas on sieges but what if the 250 person is not met, what if the game is unpopular and only a couple large guilds,so 250 versus 20?A couple big guilds push everyone else out of the game?
To me the whole idea in gaming right now is trying to FIX old game problems and trying to give players more to do.The problem with giving players things to do is devs don't want to put any effort into content,so they typically aim for the simple>>>pvp and instance raids.
Pretty simple way to fix and improve mmorpg's,lose the crap>>>raids/pvp,add in real things to do,CONTENT that brings players together to enjoy long term example the best content ever made >>Besieged".
So we end up with the never ended saga,WHAT ABOUT the pvp players?I have NEVER seen a pvp focused player care one bit about a RPG or content, all they care about is>>>pvp.
So WHY would i try and cater my game to 1% of my game?WHY would i cater my game to a player who doesn't really want a rpg/world/immersion?
I would tell them to go play a game where they belong,a shooter a BR,CS Go,whatever go play where you can do exactly what you want 24/7.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
I also agree that it looks like they’re trying to bite over «too much». I too have a sneaky feeling that the node system mechanic will need a 100% revamp due to imbalanced population between the nodes just a couple of months after launch
What Summit has to do with MMORPGs he is mainly FPS streamer.
A lot of these big FPS streamers and gamers in general are MMO players at heart. When Bless Online relaunched a lot of them hoped it was the next big thing and planned to main the game for a while before it ultimately flopped. Many of them also play MMO's off-stream. They're just waiting for the next big thing, and if AoC ends up being that then you'll see a lot of them streaming it extensively.

Maybe that's working as intended. Surely not every node is supposed to be leveled to max just like not every small town becomes a city.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."

Nodes literally can't all be leveled to max since nodes influence adjacent nodes and no node can be leveled any higher than one level lower than the adjacent dominant node.

what are you even talking about? this doesn't even make any sense
They are surely trying to emulate some systems, that could make sense only in real life simulation or in a highly populated game. I don't mind player-controlled territories; I even like the idea of being at risk by wandering to enemy areas or having an impactful role on the economy/map change that comes with node relativity.
This game tick many boxes of what I crave in MMORPG in it's purest form. I would pick that sand-park anytime over replaying scripted PvE content that I only enjoyed for the first time, but not for the 10th or 1000th. I do love change and I do hope the hype will be upheld up to the release window, and that they will deliver their idea successfully. Until then - it's good to be skeptical and to throw opinions at them whenever possible, especially since they really do seem to listen to the community and remain somewhat transparent with their design decisions.
There is no proof of what Steve's actual investment is. During some post Kickstarter interview he confirmed having "access to" $30M to build the "core" game.
No evidence to date he has access to that money, considering he's had his hand in the crowdfunding cookie jar ever since.
Oh, I disagree, all MLM is evil, unless we're talking about Girl Scout Cookies.

Can You elaborate on how all MLM is evil? Do you know that MLM =/= financial pyramid, right? It's based on selling other company's products. In it's core there's no payments coming from new users, other than money for products. Of course some companies go shady with their actions and pretend to do MLM while being pure scam and recruit new members with the requirement of personal money investment. This is evil, not the possibility to earn by selling something. Whether the product itself is legit or not is of course also important, but this is off the topic of MLM term.

Asmongold did an interview with the lead dev in the same day and it was actually really good.
Kind of got me interested in Ashes of Creation.

I remain skeptical to date...
