imageLotRO Community Manager Hosts Q&A, Addresses Outages

In his latest +Cord of the Rings, community manager Jerry "Cordovan" Snook hosted a Q&A with players, he addressed, albeit still with the vagueness many customers are upset about, the ongoing problems with the game servers.

Unless it's considered part of 27.2, it's also holding up Helm's Deep/West Rohan from being released on the legendary servers

There may be some kind of vulnerability that somebody found and abused. They might not want to say what that really is.

A Community Manger, who the hell is that,a meaningless pawn within a gaming business.

I just commented recently in another platform on the CM of Atlas and how since she showed up has done ONE thing over 6+ months, warn all forum users and nothing else, great job CM !!.There might be 100...200.300 questions and the CM doesn't respond to one but yeah great job, good thing they hired you.

It might be the job of the CM to quiet the press, quiet the anger but in reality there is a very good chance the CM doesn't know a dam thing behind closed doors.

Now if we get one of the OWNERS to make a statement, then it carries some weight.

Cordvian has been with the company for a long time, I am not saying this to give him any additional credit, but, he has been there long enough to be a part of the whole system and what goes on.

With that said, and why I know of SSG, some of the team could have been doing the raunchy in the server room, to keep their illicit affairs from their appropare spouses, and knocked something over.

If that sounds fictional.. you all can ask Ninja about how real that is.

It sounds fictional (and if this was a joke and I am just being dense - sorry) because Daybreak uses tier 1 colo datacenters - where everything is racks that are held together and impossible to knock over

these are not "server rooms" - they are massive facilities with cameras everywhere and tight security.

here's a pic of datacenter where Elder Scrolls Online is hosted from:

You an see the raised floor, cages for customer space - and racks (with mesh doors) where servers/network switches/routers/SAN/NAS storage is all installed

    there's nothing to trip over

    there are cameras everywhere

Cabling is all overhead trays, power is all below the raised floor - it's all clean again, zero tripping hazards

it's about 100 decibles of white noise and it's cold/hot depending on which side of the isle you are standing on (intake with perforated tile) or exhaust (back of the servers)

It's not exactly an environment that is very inviting for "doing the raunchy" - you can't even get people inside who are not on the access-list, and if you have a 3rd party/guest coming in - they will need their license logged and temp access setup - aka full log of who is coming inside the premises at all times.

Yeah that is not a place to bring anyone you are trying to hide from your spouse or anyone - as there is documented evidence of who is on premises, as well as 24/7 video surveillance

I've worked in datacenters for over 20 years, it's not nearly as glamorous as people think it is.
LOL.. go ask Cord for a picture of their server room.. Gonna bet it's not nearly as glamorous as that picture by ESO.

Well, I'm disappointed at this. I found a great kin, we had 3+ pages of members on, very active discord and kinchat. Now, we're down to 1-1.5 pages, no chat obviously and people just playing other games. We were beginning to assemble a solid raid core as well, with a few randoms to join. Now all of that is on hold.
People log in, they don't see any friends on (frinds lists are empty), kinchat is dead, so they log off and play something different.

Many of them will not return and eventhough I've no other MMO I'm remotely interested in, I'm beginning to experience an itch to scratch. Currently updating ESO and if I like it chances are very low I'll be back into LotRO anytime soon.

Sucks that this is taking them so long and sucks even more the way they communicate about it.

Noone goes to Cordovan for anything resembling real knowledge. The dude is a running joke in the LotRO community. He's a DDO CM and fanboi who got assigned to handle LotRO as well so Turdbine/SSG wouldn't have to hire a dedicated LotRO CM after the last one got kicked to the curb.
He really is on DDO (maybe even a fanboi), but I don't believe there's a consesus within LotRO's community about that "running joke" claim...

However, you're right about he ain't the best source for technicalities. Not that it'd be a fallback from an earlier stage, Sapience wasn't a tech guy either.
It ain't a CM issue, but a company one. SSG (Turbine too) never was good on communication.

Impossible, there are rules and regulations on sharing pictures on the net, and I'm sure he couldn't get written and signed consent from the hamsters within the server to post their mugshots :)

To be honest when a game hitches and lags and staggers I rather not play at all. I wish they would just take it down and spend time fixing it instead of patching it up like you patch a hole in the roof with some plastic.

Most likely a cyber crime like ransomware and authorities have asked them not to share any information until the initial investigation is complete.

I'm not one for conspiracy theories, but their unwillingness to share any details is very suspicious.  I also think that there may be some sort of illegal activity involved that's caused the problems.  At the least, there must be some legal issue that's preventing them from talking.

Likewise, I also worry on the safety of the character data so I was away in the last couple days.

Currently I'm back in game for finishing the Midsummer deeds, and while chat is missing, performance seems better.

Sure, not at peak hours... but both this morning and yesterday morning Evernight only had the "usual" stutters, with quite a lot of players around.
I often had to wait for item and NPC respawns during quests because other players used them all. (wedding crates, theater performers, etc.)

Quite possibly they themselves have no idea, they did everything and something worked.

One thing i do know, i'll never touch this game ever again.

Wasn't playing it, but i never hated it, would i ever return, maybe. Now? no way!
