imageLord of the Rings Online Provides a Coupon Code As Thank You Gift, VIP Sub Time Compensation News Coming Soon

In a recent forum post from the community manager Cordovan on the Lord of the Rings Online website, a "Thank You Coupon" is available for players affected by the downtime and additional troubles that gamers have experienced over the past couple weeks. The coupon comes along with an apology for the downtime and points to issues with the data center and other environments affecting the playability of LOTRO.

I beta tested LoTRO in the beginning, and bought the lifetime VIP when it released. I wonder what I will get?

LOTRO had an extended downtime during it's first year. They gave all the accounts 5 little candles that add +1 light or whatever it's called. I still get the candles when I create a new character and it kinda feels good despite the item being pretty useless. I wish they would do something along those lines for the VIP accounts at the very least.

The best deal ever available for as long as LotRO exists?

'This does not apply just to ED but SC or any other game. What they will get is Rebirth/X4, likely prettier but equally underwhelming and pointless.

It is incredibly difficult to design some meaningfull leg content that would fit a space ship game - simply because it is not a leg game.

It is just huge resource waste....'

Some players blindly say 'thank you' to devs regardless their shitty jobs and arrogance silences are not helping at all!

    "environmental and infrastructure challenges"

As I thought. Their cheap ass servers melted.
Probably just one of the hamsters died from heart attack/old age :)

Substantial restructuring of our server infrastructure:
they attach that wheel with rubber bands to the two neighbouring wheels, thus those two hamsters now have to do some extra legwork until they get PETA's thumbs up on the replacement hamster.

On a sidenote, DDO received a similar -just much smaller- compensation coupon (it's SOV2POT).

I really respect what these guys have continued to do with this game, but that is an extremely weak compensation package.

I stand by what I said, about some of them bumping uglies in the server room and breaking something.

For all the people with negative comments.  Perhaps you should do some soul searching.  The small team they have has continued to put out decent content.  To do this they have probably skimped on the systems engineer side and it has come back to bite them.  This game is no longer a big moneymaker yet still fun to play with probably more content than any other MMO which if you have not noticed are not being made much anymore.

I will certainly give them a break.  Hope they get their chat features fixed soon.

What egregious, and appalling behaviour from the LOTRO community - do you not remember they have handed their game over to you free for months now? utterly perfidious!

Also even if they were bumping uglies and broke something - it would be something singular at best - like what single piece of gear would knock them offline for this long without being able to get a replacement within 48 hours at worst?
A server motherboard of a system that's discontinued. If you're running hardware from 2007 a part repair like that could be pretty tough, and you'd have to get the same part in order to ensure everything booted properly.

Though that's unlikely the case in this situation, and at worst you'd restore a backup to a different server altogether. ... ... unless... that backup ... had a file corruption ... for the CHAT PORTION. AND THAT'S WHY IT ISN'T WORKING.

My conspiracy theory is plausible. Send it to the papers!

In 2020, if your infrastructure isn't code, then you are doing it wrong.

No, no, no - we've been over this literally zero chance that this is the reason.

Please stop spreading this nonsense - the "server room" for Lotro is not some "back room in office building" - it's located at tier 1 datacenter

You could literally slam people against the rack cabinets in there and you will only break bones, not gear - that shit is bolted together

also 24/7 video survailance with 100s of cameras everywhere - in a 100 decibel room that is super cold...

also to just get in the building - you need to be on the access list and check in with security where you driver's license is scanned and all logs are kept of people going in and out.

Also even if they were bumping uglies and broke something - it would be something singular at best - like what single piece of gear would knock them offline for this long without being able to get a replacement within 48 hours at worst?
and yet this vaunted data center that houses the game failed for a week straight, somehow.

Maybe them bolts are not as tight as you like to believe. LOL.
