I am also so tired of official game server settings,i feel developers just make awful settings to bore me into a long term stay to get more money out of me.
I want mmorpgs to allow players to run their own servers with their own settings.I want to be able to mod the game for FREE.

Mmorpg's have way too many restrictions to control our gaming,to force us to pay more money.A simple "experience" is not enough,i personally want to control that experience.

We got a glimpse of that idea with i think was Neverwinter or some game like that allowed us to manipulate and make our own quests. It was however a sort of weak half assed system, devs can do better than that.

When i see classes like Shaman and Dire Lord i just see same old.The Dire Lord appears to be a sort of weaker version of the ShadowKnight while just rewording the same ideas.I thought the EQ teams were clueless with some of it's choices like allowing healers to use plate armor and seeing Dire Lord using less or similar armor to a Shaman is again a dumb idea.

This team is doing literally nothing  to win me over,i will still always check in once in a while to see if anything gets my attention but i just don't see this game being a game changer.
It’s clear you don’t want an mmo.
I don't see that in him at all,
Pantheon is not winning me over lately, their features are getting shitty as time goes on.  I do like the character builds so far.
You honestly make me laugh. For someone who does not like a game, you sure make allot of threads and posts.
    I like the game,
Just features are diminishing as time goes on.  Jappa is becoming more and more of a strange individual.  VR marketing is and always was crap.

In the beginning I was expecting an EQ1, as time passes it's not EQ1 and getting worst.

3 years ago I was expecting another year for a release.  It's now 3 years later I'm expecting 5 more years, that's pretty sad.

I have a bad medical condition, I don't think I'll see this game at all.

Time to stop making excuses for them.

It does not seem "cartoony", but it is hardly realistic and in fact realism ages better than it used to. Graphics just is not jumping forward in leaps and bounds like it once did.

For me the graphics are good enough, I think gameplay should be the concern as it is always harder to get right than good visuals. As to features being lost they could be added later, what is the core gameplay for launch is there enough and is it good enough is all that matters.

You know what, I failed to realize all of the testing will take place in the same zone or few. So it's really about individual zone capacity, not overall server capacity that they have to be careful of.

If there are 300 pre-alpha testers available to play those days. Splitting them into groups of 100 would be about right for an individual zone to handle at one time. At least before they optimize the game.
For real, if they can't test with 200-300 concurrent players in a single zone, they might as well stop right now.  EQ1 can do that, and it's 21 years old.
These types of limits should have been established many years ago, to determine base zone population and size limits.  Otherwise, the past 6+ years have been a percentage of wasted effort, making zones that are either too big or too small.

Don't you think that this is why they are having the test? Gather data and the like?

You do realize this is not a stress test? They are testing game system, skills and other game play features they have added including their AI system. When all that is worked out, then you do stress testing.

So it's pre alpha FIVE, yet.. they don't know the basics?  Good use of the past 6 years, then.

They are not even in Alpha yet. Beta is when you stress test when the whole game is together. VR is a very small dev team making incredible amount of production for their size.

    @amathe ;
Well since two of you mention it I should take this advice.  Waiting for Social Security Disability and health care to be guaranteed excepted, so I can't quit work.  Lawyers are right 85% get turned down until you get one.  Catastrophic or not, it's another thing that sets up for lawyers to make sure they have their fingers in it to make money (scam). It's amazing how little it is anyway, and for all the years I put money into it !!!!

It's like a DUI or selling a house, try going to court without one, even if you know your 100% guilty.  Being in AA I know so many people told to go home until you have representation. I sold two houses in my time without a lawyer (I found a way), two of them actually called me because they were pissed.....It's a sweet feeling to overcome their scam.

When I settle in and get my drivers licence back (neurology/DMV took it), I'll have to start a new identity because I may linger a few years.  Part time work is out of the question knowing what I know and the stress I put myself under.  And being 57 going back to kungfu may be an option but I stopped a few years back because I almost had to kill a guy in a competition one time, that feeling still lingers and don't need that at my age.  Besides the instructors moto is all or nothing.  NEVER exceptions, you would have to be there to understand..... To contradict myself, this is still an open option.  Believe it or not this is truly Chinese healing, it gives maximum confidence.

    Games,
Off line games are nice, but I love the slow pace of what an mmorpg SHOULD be along with friends.  I'm not crazy over them anymore, I know moderation, maybe a few hours a day if and when time permits.

Vanilla WoW is my all time best...... but played it on and off hard for 15 years, not sure I can take it any more. Thinking of EQ2, but with the low eletest population and so many expansions..... I feel the game is broken and never be fixed.

    Pantheon,
Honestly, I don't think I'll be around for it.  I really think Jappa is a strange guy and he is making a game that only he will understand.  I absolutely love complexity, but he needs to tone down the stupid crap...... And why don't they tell us how the world it self is coming along ?..... 20%, 50%, 80%..... just tell us !!!!!

Sorry for the ramble, it's 4 am ,no one is up in the house  :o

Say what?  EQ spawns picks (zone copies) when population gets above about 50.  NO WAY you get 300 in a zone.
  • goldwheatgoldwheat Member UncommonPosts: 69
Not all zones in EQ1 today, or on TLP servers, use /pickzone.
Of those that do not, you can easily get 200-300 people in them.
Before pickzone was a thing, and EQ1 had no instances of any kind, 200-300 in a zone was possible.  On dial-up, too. :)

SOE pretty much stopped their GM events in 1999-2000 because their zones crashed with 150 people in the zone.  Trying to run a story event with 150 standing around Kelethin doing ever emote they knew at a pretty much non-responsive Fironia Vie.  It was awful, most everyone went LD several times and most just gave up.  You might have experienced 200+ in a zone, but I certainly wouldn't have wanted to.

No need to have 200 even 70 odd in a zone to kill Trakanon and you have to face a wall and not move because you will LD. Everquest used to lag badly during raids.

I don't wanna read this whole thread. But what about a stamina based climbing system in a group-based exploration-heavy MMO doesn't get people excited?

What is climbing going to do?

mmorpg's are not even 50% of where they should be by now, excuse time is over,we have a lot of technology and a lot of know how to deliver a true rpg experience.
I don't want stupid treadmills or instance Boss treadmills,i want a WORLD and i want my character to feel like it lives in a world.
TWO simple ideas is all i ask and yet devs cannot come even close to delivering.I am 95% positive i will not see a true AAA mmorpg in my lifetime.

Instead we will continue to get treadmills and loot runs and nothing more,so about 10% a real rpg game.

They're a terribly small team right. They're not making Star Citizen or even have a fraction of their budget. Relentlessly berating the time they are taking isn't contributing a fig to this conversation for sure.

The players who want to play this game will wait. I play games like P99 or Project Gorgon, PSO2 so I doubt that outdated graphics will be a concern.

I will admit if I had $1000 USD burning a hole in my pocket. I still would not buy in lol. My $100 pledge is fine for me lol
Same. I pledged 100 dollars for the Knight's pledge like a million years ago which was supposed to give me alpha access. Not only is it deflating that the game is so far behind schedule but it pains me to see how they keep stretching out "pre-alpha" and keep chopping it up into more and more pieces and selling these absurd pre-alpha packages like pre alpha 5 shakeout and pre alpha 5 proper...I mean WTF. I know they need funding but at what point is this just stringing people along? I can't help but get reminded of SC when I see this. It's not a good look IMO.

I pledged for alpha access years ago as well (during the KS and then through the website after the KS failed). And I agree it sucks having to wait so long. Yet I must remind myself, this is what I signed up for back then... a game in early development, with no KS funding and no announced launch date.

Regarding PA5 shakeout and proper, I think you're a little misinformed. They're not separate packages for people to buy individually. They are simply the names of two different tests taking place in PA5. If you have pre-alpha access, you have access to both shakeout and proper.

I didn't mean to imply that they were separate packages. I sort of conflated two things that they are doing. The dicing up of pre-alpha into these new phases that give the appearance of progress but never actually going into alpha. It makes me quite skeptical of their progress when we are 7 years into the project..still not into alpha but they keep creating new ways to "progress" in the pre-alpha stage...all the while pushing these absurd pre-alpha packages. It has the unseemly appearance (IMO) of milking desperate MMO players with more money than sense.

I was actually more skeptical of Ashes of Creation after their whole "Apocolypse" diversion but more recently I'm more hopeful that that MMO might actually release in a good state and far ahead of Pantheon which is a bit sad.
