What MMO to play?????

I am a big fan of MMO's, and have been playing WoW for the last year or so.  I am starting to get bored with it and was looking for something different to play.  I have also played COH and SWG.  I thought about going back to SWG but the NGE killed it.  I was wondering what you guys thought the best games to play were.  I was thinking about DAoC, but I am worried about the server populations.  I heard some good things about EQII also.  Bascially I am open for any suggestions on any game.  Thanks alot...

If you want immersion, complex and beautifully told Quests with Cutscenes (no exp!)
If you want realistic graphics, nicely designed armor and player characters.
If you want a really hard game and a challange.
If you want to party with a group, make friends and not solo.
If you want complex and time consuming crafting.

    Try Final Fantasy XI Online

    -/-

If you want simple quests like in WoW (give exp!)
If you want high end graphics (shaders, shadows galore, real time lighting etc).
If you want *Solo and grouping (at higher levels grouping is required)
If you want extremely detailed and time consuming crafting.

    Try Everquest II

    -/-

If you want something totally different.
If you want unique and great looking graphics.
If you want a mature and helpfull comunity
If you want Lore, Story and Roleplaying.
If you want Solo as much as Grouping.

    Try Saga of Ryzom

The big question is, do you want something similar like WoW (EQ2), the total oposite (FFXI) or something totally different and unique (SoR).

    EDIT: typos

I always heard that EQII was more a game oriented towards grouping as opposed to going solo.  Thank you for the input.

taus01 sums up those 3 mmorpgs pretty well, except I disagree with EQ2's quick solo levelling.  Even after more solo content was added, EQ2 is still a mmorpg that encourages grouping and you can easily advance much, much more quickly while in a group rather than soloing.

That is what I always had heard about EQII.  I don't mind grouping, but sometimes I enjoy being able to go out and do stuff on my own without having to find a group.  Any other games you would like to recommend as well?

I should have said that it is viable to solo in EQ2. It's slower than grouping but its still possible. Quests give good experience, Discovering areas/landmarks gives experience. I have found myself gaining a level just from exploring and harvesting for my cooking. Level 40+ i would definately recommend grouping though.

EDIT: I have not played alot of other MMORPGs long enough to really comment or they where so bad i don't want to even suggest trying them.

EVE is supposed to be really good but i did not give it enough time to get into it. My brother plays GuildWars and really likes it and from what i have seen it could be fun. Worth trying if there is a free trial.

join DaoC, its the best mmorpg out there still and its almost 5 years old.

just join gareth the classic server and you won't have grouping problems or population issues, except possible too many people.

Well I played Guild Wars and I was not a big fan of it.  I like PvP, but I also like building a character completely from scratch and having a main point to the game other than simply PvP.  Also I did not like the way the combat was in it.  I looked at EVE and wasn't really very interested in it.  I am considering DAoC, I was just worried about the population on the servers.

After getting a little better idea of what you're looking for, I'd recommend trying out Everquest II on one of the PvP servers.  I haven't tried one of these servers personally, but I hear from all of my friends who have transferred over that they are great.  PvP is fun and there is a good community on Venekor (RP-PvP).  That is the server I will eventually go to once I get the courage to leave my friends behind on my server and go to try EQ2's PvP.

One thing to keep in mind, if you do decide to try EQ2, is that you must have a very good PC, with a modern video card, and lots of memory.

DAoC is a very good mmorpg and has some of the best Realm vs. Realm PvP I've experienced.  I played for over a year and it was great.  I don't know how populations are lately on the servers, but the Percival and Guinevere servers that I played on were always at the max around peak times.

Now is a good time to be looking for a mmorpg, but if you can wait a little while longer, there are some good ones coming.  I am not one to wait, so I am playing a couple of different ones until Vanguard comes out.

Yeah there is one or two that I am waiting on.  I am just trying to find a different one to pass the time with until that one comes out.  Also the system that I use won't be a problem.  The main thing that has kept me away from EQII is that I have always heard that you have to be in groups to do anything.  Which isn't necessarily a problem but sometimes I like to go solo when it comes to questing and leveling.  I may d/l the free trial and try it out before I spend any money on it.

I have literally played every big name MMoRPG out currently.

I Have beta tested the following in closed beta:

    World Of Warcraft

Dark Age of Camelot: Shrouded Isles, Trials of Atlantis, and Catacombs

    Lineage 2

    Everquest 2

    City of Heroes

    D&D Online

Out of all of my experiences in all of these games, the times that stand out most were in the game of Dark Age of Camelot.

They have made many strides in player balance, class updates, and game content.

The best server to play on currently would be Gareth (Classic). Classic, which means it has every expansion except for Trials of Atlantis. Trials of Atlantis added alot of PvE Content, which most players did not like. I personally liked alot of the things Trials of Atlantis brought to the table.

Dark Age of Camelot's PvP is undoubtedly the best in the industry currently. The seiges can range from 3 people with a catapult, against 1 person defending the keep, and or tower. There is a number of seige equipment that can be used to destroy the walls, and or doors, to get to the keep lord. Defeat him, and claim the keep for your guild, and the honor of your realmmates will follow.

I Give Dark Age of Camelot a 8.5 out of 10 Possible Points.

Want to give it a try for yourself. Here is a link which can branch off to other expansions with screenshots, and a link to a 14 day free trial. Before the 14 Days are over, cancel the account or you will be billed for a month.

Thanks a lot for everyone's input so far.  As of right now I am going to try out DAoC, then maybe EQII if I am not satisfied.

Okay I have a few more questions.  I d/l the free trial to DAoC, and it has been alright so far, I can see the age of the game, and that does bug me a lot, but I think I can deal with it once I get high enough level to PvP.  Anyways, I am currently d/l the free trial of EQ2, and the closer I get to being done with that that less excited I am... that just comes from my experience with SOE and forum post.  Either way I am going to give it a shot.  I was just wondering if there was anyone else with any suggestions that may have been overlooked so far.  Thanks...

If you wanna just have some fun. Try Auto Assault. It's a doggone blast.
