Well, they seem incapable of creating/finishing their own games so why not I guess.

Where'd Daybreak find the money to offer them anything more than $5 and half a pack of gum?

So they will force there new acquisition to create a minecraftesque building game while promising something else, and end up shutting down at the 11th hour. Same as it ever was

I'm thankful Webreak hasn't noticed standing stones products that much.

I hope that you're not referring to Landmark as minecraft-esque cause it was SO far removed from that lol.
Best building game ever but alas they screwed that up too.

I hope Weruin Games keeps letting the company do what they want. Daybreak is known for slowly ruining games they touch over time. I mean Z1 Battle Royale used to be somewhat popular then over time it got killed off by Daybreak and they just stopped caring about it. I mean they gave up on Everquest Next after like a week of having it because it was too complex for them to get.

Viktor Vekselberg owns Daybreak, Russian billionaire oligarch, has just a few more assets than $5 and a pack of gum.

I find it very odd that another studio was actually seeking out Daybreak because of the Trump ordeal and wanting to sellout. It baffles me as to why anyone would target Daybreak..hmm

So in this case i would imagine like so many businesses struggling during the Covid outbreak they ran short on funds and sought out help.Even more baffling however is that who would have thought Daybreak could afford to acquire a new studio.I guess money and bank loans are easy to get lol.My assumption would be they see this as an easy return on their investment and merely just helping out a studio that no longer had the funds to finish their game.

IMO a smart move by DBG,not that i am interested in playing an Aliens game myself but i am sure it is mildly popular.I did enjoy the movies however, the first few anyhow.

After EQ Next being cancelled, they changed decision and are now working on EQ3.
    Relax it takes some time.

Been 4 years since they cancelled EQ Next and all we've heard was Holly say they were working on EQ3 before she quit to work on WoW classic. At present EQ1 and 2 are overbloated messes and Daybreak has nothing worthwhile in their stable.

Ok correct me if I am wrong here, DB has not launched anything and just oversees EQ and Lotro? So what is funding this, those two games?

My guess is the cash shop from DCUO. Those addictive time capsules.

All they had to do was keep Landmark open and expand the land mass. My favorite building game.

    Except that...

Landmark was never supposed to be a long term, stand alone game, rather it was a core foundation module for EQ Next.

Smed didn't have the necessary funding to build EQN, so within a few months of its announcement Landmark suddenly landed in the news.

Much like AOC tried to monetize their BR test env, or CUs Ragnarok, Colossal Betrayal, or even Curt Shillings studio releasing a single player game first to continue funding of the rest of the development.

I'm sure once Daybreak saw how much work remained on EQN (and calculated the cost to complete) Landmark's days were numbered as it just didn't have enough support to deliver the expected funds.

Actually Landmark was advertised as a standalone game,i think i personally was the first person to claim otherwise.
i happen to have an interest in the game,i really hoped for the best and actually watched their videos they put out every week or so.What i saw during the videos was basically NOTHING,that told me right away they were doing nothing, likely the team was working on expansions for their other games.
Si i figured they were using Landmark as a building block for Next and then of course the 2 way profit ordeal was just another layer to fund next.

So far i have  seen no interest or effort by DBG to do a damn thing  except sit on it's assets.I really still don't get it,why buy a business to do nothing with it.Smedley made claims he joined with DBG because they were willing to allow him to expand in many directions, well i haven't seen one yet.

So imo this whole DBG ordeal is just about cashing in with as little effort as possible, restructure to avoid taxes and get government perks back and just keep pulling in whatever money it can for however it lasts. If DBG was intelligent in the very least and have money or the ability to get money which i assume they do,outsource a new Everquest game. This way you have no overhead and the business you hire is sort of under the gun to perform good work or they don't get paid.I mean just acquiring the EQ IP is good enough, now do something with it.

I don't think EQN was ever more than just a bunch of ideas and hyperbole....They had nothing and got people to buy into Landmark.

While Smedley was still at Daybreak he said that even before EQNext and Landmark - internally they had worked on EQ3 and scrapped it at least twice.

So EQNext was their 3rd attempt at eq3... it failed.

So whatever they are working on now is their 4th attempt... they have wasted well over 10 years and tens of millions of dollars and still there is no EQ3.

Look at Daybreaks other projects H1Z1 Just Survive - totally failed, Planetside Arena - lol... etc...

These guy are riding the coattails of 20 year old EQ1, and  15+ year old EQ2

There is no evidence that this studio has the ability to  make a new game that's good
The foundational developers of EQ1 no longer work at Daybreak. They let go some of the developers that had any idea of what made EQ1 go, so I dont trust anything they call EQ title till I have seen it in working action or I have played it myself. My guess, anything they make will end up like most of their current games. Broken apart into segments they can resell and microtransaction the heck out of. What they have done to Planetside and H1Z1 speak volumes of profit over integrity. I get they need to make money but that seems to be their only focus and gamers see that.

Did that have real sized assault rifles side by side on that machine? If so I agree with you!
