The plans they have spoken about obviously point to the game being around a lot longer.
Their plans will eventually be broken when they are forced to truly be maintenance mode. I'm curious if LOTRO is actually subsidizing DDO at this point as I think DDO may just be a labor of love for them.
I would probably hazard that DDO has the higher population, at least it gets considerably more content/expansions but it could just be that people spend more money, besides the subscription. There are also rumours abound that it was WoTC money that enabled the split, because they didn't like what Turbine was doing to the IP. (Part of the license was that DDO had to create content in line with PNP releases but this didn't really happen. Maybe one or two vaguely linked quests)
I see it in DDO and LoTRO. The company is going south fast.
LOL, it's been around for 14 years, and been going south since it started, this about as slow a crawl to oblivion as you can get.
Egotism is the anesthetic that dullens the pain of stupidity, this is why when I try to beat my head against the stupidity of other people, I only hurt myself.

Maybe this is proof that the cost of maintaining game servers isn't nearly as expensive as they have led us to believe all these years. That the constant boo hooing sob stories about how expensive MMORPG games are to make and maintain are merely smoke and mirrors put forth by the gaming industry to justify their cash grabbing tactics.

Not really.
I remember some time back that there was a developer, I believe it was Raph Koster, who put out a blog and on it he mentioned what it cost for servers and how much it cost for each player connecting.
It wasn't insignificant as far as what players were paying monthly.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
