Victoria had minimal experience with MMORPGs and is normally adverse to RPGs, but Final Fantasy 14 finally hit the spot.

The game is indeed fun, imho, even better than WoW (4 yearsplaying), which I played for longer than FFXIV (only 3 months). Unfortunately for me, for the most I want to resub and buy the expansions, I can't afford it, at least not the keeping the sub, since the dollar price in my country is too high (5x the value, not counting the taxes they apply here).

The community is indeed different, and you will find yourself in a free company or even a cross world linkshell group (only works on the same datacenter).

I've been playing in a new account as free trial, take into consideration that there are many limitations for trial accounts, such as:

    - Gil limit is 300k.
    - You can't create party (but you can be invited).
    - You can't acquire Retainers (which you need for the first chocobo movement speed quest).
    - You can't trade and/or use market.

There are some other restrictions that I'm failing at remember right now.
But even so it still a good experience, the game is fun, you can just go around the world exploring places, finding some nice scenery or just sit somewhere with friends or new people to talk.

    Endgame is a failure

more solo endgame content , and more midcore....1 huge raid (LFR ) and grinding the same dungeon for months = yawn

1 raid with just a few bosses for 6 months yaaaaaawn.

    Diadem good idea but nopeeee

the random generated dungeon sounded cool but .......booring.

Its hard to create content that last? yes , always have been ,but wow has M+ that isnt perfect but its something... the islands sucked ,the warfronts ugh :(

....refuses to pay a sub for an mmo and never gets hooked on anything.

....tries one of the only sub-based mmos that's been successful and gets hooked.

When is everyone going to realize that F2P has been the absolute WORST model for the MMO genre?!? I've been saying this since it started to gain in popularity way back when...nothing but forgettable waste of time games have come from F2P. If you want good quality experiences in an mmo you better not complain about having to spend $15 a month. If you can't/won't shell out that money then MMOs probably aren't for you.

I blame Guild Wars. GW was subless and absolutely amazing and I think that began to fool people into thinking that F2P MMOs could work without a cash shop.

I've tried a few of the F2P mmos on offer atm and I was blown away by that fact that to unlock anything of note I had to shell out a couple hundred bucks. I mean say what you will about Warcraft and FFXIV and their grinds, at least I dont have to drop 60 bucks to get some cosmetics.

GW/GW2 are not F2P though. They are B2P. Sure you can play for free, like most MMOs these days have some sort of "trial" model...because that's exactly what it is. Not one of those games that has a sub/B2P model, along side its F2P model, give you full access to the game, unless you either pay for the game or pay a sub.

...I genuinely forgot how many MMOs I've given, like, three weeks' time at best, until people started mentioning them down here. I'll just say that much...

I have never played a f2p mmo (I'm including b2p under this heading since you did with GW) that required me to pay hundreds of dollars for "anything of note".

On the other hand, all of the major subbed mmos I can think of charge a sub and still make us pay the price of a new game for each expansion, and have cash shops!
