John Smedley of Sony Online Entertainment and Daybreak fame, and more recently, head of Amazon Game Studios in San Diego, tweeted the news that AGS has quite a few positions open for an unannounced game. The game does not have anything to do with the current MMO in production, New World, which is set to release next year.

Thanks
He left Soe making that half assed H1 Z1 game and a half assed Landmark that was simply a cash grab.
He is not about making bold moves,he is about CHEAP unfinished cash grabs.
So what can we expect....a cash shop "most certainly" unfinished game "most certainly",NEW ideas, most likely not.
My guess,a 2 year project "if that".
There is no money in a mmorpg right now and besides, would you really want a mmorpg model based on a cash shop f2p model?
I know Smedley was talking about Mobile when he entered DBG but idk that market is very scummy and would land Amazon in a lot of hot water. It will have to have LOOT as that is the common carrot used, can we guess at something similar to yet another BR?

I mean, I'm not saying I don't want them to suceed, but they are like that super talented kid probably everyone knew at school or in their family that could do anything, but just could never dedicate themselves to anything past a certain period of time until they got bored.
The other side to all of this is that all 3 of the titles were originally designed with Twitch as the large focus, creating things with viewer power in mind. A mmorpg really can't do that and isn't really the most in-engaging thing to watch after a while, so they're probably trying to find a FPS or something they can make with breakaway's assets to flip into a watcher.
People like John Smedley are the reason why Kickstarter for PC games has become so popular and necessary.
Too often he has said he knows what players wants but fails to actually listen to them. He is a complete asshole to players that speak up or speak their mind, otherwise he loves you to death as long as you role-play the sheep.
Basically, Fuck him, wont touch another game thats had his paws on. He is the true source of dev hate.

Sure everything turned to crap, but i'm sure back then although he was in charge, he was charged with the brass's wow mentality which was to make game super simple, stupid easy and people will just buy in the millions.
One can only hope this is a new mmorpg.

Developing New World
I pray that Amazon doesn't get the new LOTR mmorpg because they can't even make a simple team based fps right; let alone a complex mmorpg. New world is just a wreck and only die hard PVErs will play it at launch and quit a week or 2 after because there is nothing to do in game except ponder why an ancient version's mechanics promoting full loot and pvp anywhere mentality are still the core basis the game is being developed behind with nothing reedeming to make up for the bad decisions.

Welcome to game development! I guarantee every single company you like the games of have developed and shelved more games than you realize, as that is the nature of the business. Amazon Games has recruited a very large pool of very talented developers, eventually something is bound to work. New World is shaping up to be a really fun game, their delays have made sense and worked out for the better each time.
