For CR to come out and directly respond can only mean one thing, people are wising up,

    free fly
    CR responding

    add it up.

Time to put your money where your mouth is and yeah... sry my bad can't do it, quickly running out of money and no finished game to speak of. What's a scammer to do? Oh mY!

Could you imagine that statement coming out, "we really need people to throw everything they can at us so we can finish"

    I know!!!

    CHANGE THE SCOPE... OFC!!!!

We are not only going to recreate a galaxy.
We are not only going to recreate a universe.

We are going to recreate a multiverse. It'll be out in couple years tops.

    This should read:

SC still around  9 years out.

Why else say not 10 to 20?

Why, btw, speak in negatives at all?

Being reassured it won't be TWENTY MORE F'G YEARS is cold comfort.

Ok, it won't take another 10-20 years. How long will it take?

When is the scheduled release of a product?

Do you have a release goal target?
Release goal targets mean nothing coming from that team.

It's actually kind of crazy to me how much people put into this game just to have them never release solid dates on anything.

I originally had thought the backers money would run out before the game gets released, but honestly I think people want to see it so bad they are willing to keep giving more and more. Out of all of the backers I know personally in real life (like 8 or 9 people), I don't think anyone has put in less than 200$ and a lot of those people have put in well over 1k$ which to me sounds absolutely insane. I was mad I put 40 dollars into Shroud of the Avatar.
Its funny how many people thought they won't have enough money. People thought the FPS model would never work, people thought ships wouldn't travel seamlessly through atmosphere and land, and many people said they would run out of money years ago. Its obvious, the amount of envy people have for SC is depressing.

Enjoy your trash Shroud of Avatar purchase. Hopefully Chris Roberts doesn't have to dissolve his title like Richard Garriot, such a good PR ploy.

Hasn't it been like 8 years already? Or is there a debate as to when the clock actually started?

The White Knights set a moving target on that one.

I think the reason people were negative about those things originally were due to how little info was being pushed out and how many things Chris and his team kept signing up for and saying. At this point it's cool they have gotten to where they are, but it's still not much more than a tech demo for a game, and it still has been 10 years since it started development with no end in sight. They would have ran out of money years ago if they didn't have such rabid fans willing to keep putting huge amounts in. Didn't they host some "donate X amount to watch this event" thing or was it a dinner? I can't remember, but they sure are good at getting people who want the game to give more.

I honestly want this game to come out, as I love space games and this ticks every box I want. I just can't get into the idea of it yet because of the lack of solid dates.

why give more info, since the so little info they put out is wrong or incomplete anyway, but sure the next roadmap will fix that last roadmap, so they can push the roadmap ofr the last roadmap roadmap

one thing about keep deadlines and roadmaps is they NEED to be follow, when they are not, they become useless, and if they become useless that put the whole project in risk

    Here we go again.

You got to give the dude credit for replying on the post.

However- It think he is doing "damage-control" - Because if you can be that greedy and sell ship after F-ing ship all the time - and keep editing and adding things to the road map- or as a forum dweller once said: They are making roadmaps for roadmaps. It is really hard to belvie anything that comes out of his mouth.

I really hope that I am wrong- really do. But this is pure damage control and a try hard approach to be "transparent"

When being transparent because one single question is the most requested one by backers become 'damage control', we know why answering more than once every year is way enough. Whatever he say, will be turned against him by those who claim scam or ponzi even if those two words have zero meaning.
The guys explain with details why things are done... not enough. Most naysayers don't care at all. They just want a date. Even 2016 with 1/5 rd of contents would have been okay for them. Date is everything.
I totally understand why Publishers don't care about gamer community at large. Why make some effort to be creative while you can just re-skinned the same game over two decades...

Fortunately, CIG support is not driven by 10's guys on internet comment section :)
Man you just get better and better by the day-

Why put any effort in at all with actually making a game when you can be in perpetual development forever, sell pixel ships for the price of a used car (that is real and tangible) and never have to answer for anything...You see Blobbers, thats one of the problems here- other devs are working hard to make games and seeing CR fleecing the (willing) sheep for all they are worth. Why make games at all when people will throw money at you 10 years later for a (poorly designed) tech demo?

I know its pretty easy to see for most and many devs are going to stop actually making games and sell dreams- Its easier and pays more.

    AWESOME!!! CAN'T WAIT, WOOT!!!

I mean he said 5 years top's a decade ago, hell yeah, so maybe in our lifetime is on the table.

let's forget totally scope change for two triple-A back in mid-2014 because it have zero meaning in terms of development.
Scope change that make join 1.000.000 individual backers versus the 40K backers at end of Nov. 2012
Thats actually a fair point- I felt sorry for the original backers but CIG refunded everyone who wanted out (if I'm remembering correctly) a few years ago- The ones still backing had a chance to get out or bought in once the writing was clearly on the wall.

The ones backing now deserve to lose their money imho.

How many years until continued development gets "stale"?

So I hire a contractor to build a house. I ask him how long to completion? Dunno, he says. You must have an idea?  Well, the contractor says,  it won't take 20 years! Thank you I reply. Please take my money.

Scroll down through all the white knight comments in the link to the main posting its hilarious. And people wonder how they continue to suck more money out of people.

You can tell the guy either has no conscience or he actually believes the stuff he says and wrote. Neither of which are signs the guy is all there. Being completely outside reality might seem to be the norm these days especially when reality is like living i clown world. But this guy is completely delusional and off the rails.

No compromise. Finally a game that doesn't appeal to the masses. I like niche games where the developer doesn't have a customers always right attitude. Most peoples opinions do not matter to me (some people can't even customize their keybindings). I am tired of Apex Non binary legends. The game has only been in full development for like 4-5 years max. You can't call SC a working tech demo and also say their 2013 cinematic for kickstarter was already playable, and full development. They do anyways though, lol.

An Origin guy who worked with Roberts extensively told me this:  "Chris Roberts believes everything he says, regardless of its relationship to reality."
