They had the clear better lineup even with the first games showcase. Now, it's not even fair.

If this is a sprint, it's a sprint between Usain Bolt and a paraplegic with epilepsy. Oh, but the paraplegic epileptic has a great personality (Gamepass).

The Xbox brand is barely a thing in Japan and most of the JRPG audience plays on Sony or Nintendo platforms. It's barely worth the effort for a JRPG to be optimized for the extra platform.

If Sony offered them even a modest sum (and it wasn't a modest sum - this is Final Fucking Fantasy we're talking about) to not optimize for the Xbox platform, you bet your ass that they'd jump at a chance to do less work for more money. And because the JRPG audience on Xbox is so small, they'll barely even face a backlash for it.

I know I will play it on PC but considering how bad 15 was I may just pass altogether.
In my opinion the best JRPG lately have been indie and smaller studio.
Like Star Renegades on Gamepass.
Though Disgaea 4 Complete+ is awesome. I just started playing recently because it is on Xbox Gamepass. It is hilarious.

I think that the best JRPG company right now is Nihon Falcom. They're absolutely knocking it out of the park with both turn based (Kiseki/Trails) and action (YS).

Lacrimosa of Dana solidified them as masters of the craft, and I expect nothing but good things from them going forward.

As for FFXVI, I hope it learns from FFVII remake. They nailed a satisfying blend of action and turn-based commands in that one, and that's the combat system I'd like to see going forward.

And it had better be nothing like FFXV. The only good thing to come from XV was a surprisingly good movie.

As mentioned by another poster,i also lost interest in these action oriented combat designs.To me it just looks spammy,flying all over the place,combat at a 100 mph.SPEED does NOT make better combat,especially in a rpg.

Even with better combat,Square began to turn me off a few years ago,they started cutting lot's of corners in game design even to the point released several really bad games.

I own 3 of those really bad games and couldn't believe how shallow of effort Square put into them,they came off as cash grabs to fund FFXV at that time.

The reason we see a new Square Enix is because several of the old guard are gone or retired,this is a new wave of devs that were influenced by game designs i detest.

Even their best games still lacked that little bit extra like maybe more open ended or better customization of character and loot etc etc.IMO FFXi is still their best game of all time and no FF7 is not even close ,not even the new game which is way better than the original.

I expect this game is RUSHED out to meet the demand of the console wars,my guess 2 years into this at the most.

According to the lore, she was the last survivor from a powerful lineage of wind sorcerers. Guess what's missing in FFXV, air fucking magic. I got so pissed at that i couldn't finish the game. My save file has been sitting there in chapter 9 since launch. That along with all the other issues it has and lack of features, I lost all interest.

I don't know why FFXV even has magic. Its magic system is fucking worthless.

I don't have much good to say about XV in general.

Yeah, it's interesting how something like a discovered ending can really put the damper of a game.

I stopped playing Shadow of War when I found out the ending. Couldn't go on.

I am glad FF is heading back to its medieval roots; nothing against steampunk/brotrip/etc. But I always enjoy a good Western European-esque fantasy setting in both literature and games.

To look at this as just a console vs console thing is just naive at this point. The only thing Sony does have at this point is exclusives and potentially cross-compatable exclusives, outside of that, what? Microsoft is aiming to get their entire line-up (past and present) across xbox and pc. Its always been their plan to get access to as many people as possible, to maximize their profits with as little cost as possible.

Its obvious that Square Enix has stopped caring about people that like FFI - FFX. All the combat I saw in here was a single person. Which I guess makes sense because the series has been you + worthless AIs for a while now (gambit system was so great, why did they regress so far from that?). I dislike the move from turn based to action. I dislike even more that FF is now no longer team based combat.

This looks like it has the making of a good game. But not a good Final Fantasy game.

I'd be SIGNIFICANTLY more excited if Nihon Falcom would announce a Crossbell Arc localization than I am for another action RPG game that just happens to have chocobos and Ifrit.

I get why Square wants to transition the franchise to action combat. They currently lack a mainstay action JRPG, unless you count the Disney-licensed Kingdom Hearts games.

Ideally, they'd want to be in a situation in which they lead the industry for both turn based JRPGs (which they already do with Dragon Quest) and action JRPGs (which they're trying to do with FF). They're relying on the FF brand to sledgehammer their way into it, but a series with an existing dedicated audience isn't going to make that kind of transition without pissing people off. They really should have achieved this through a new tentpole IP; they are Square and everything they release makes bank.

I really do not see what is stopping them from making a wildly successful new IP with the gameplay of Kingdom Hearts in the sort of coherent, traditional high-fantasy JRPG setting that they are good at.

I miss turn based party gameplay for the FF series

this action combat is boring and takes no strategy or effort beyond learn the combos and dodge attacks. If I wanted to play dark souls I would just play dark souls... maybe im just an old man who knows its a shame though I always love the stories but the new combat puts me off so hard.

If done well, a "witcher-style" rpg is an awesome experience. The trouble with FF15 was that it was a piece of shit. The combat was shit, the setting was shit, the characters were shit, the story was shit, and the shit story was told and delivered in a shit way. POS.

I had more enjoyment watching the trailer for FF16 than I did playing the abomination that was FF15. To me it looks like FF16 will be a return to form. Well, that's what I'm hoping anyway

so Sony has the most important factor to sell a console, exclusives. Microsoft cannot expect me to subscribe to their services every month and not used them. They would have to release exclusives that I want. I already have a PC so if their games come out on Steam i would not need an XB. MS put themselves in a position where if their new consoles don't sell well they can leave the console market and their users will not lose their games, they just need to get a device with xcloud to keep playing. As a console gamer I personally want nothing to do with that strategy.

The worst part about FFXV is that the gameplay itself was pretty ok, though they messed up the magic part of it like people already mentioned.

It's just the story that was one big boring cluster f* up! How they managed to do that after all the delays and all those years in development..... baffled!

FFXV could have been an amazing and fun game, if they hadn't totally messed up the story and characters. /shrug

Time will tell if SE manages to redeem themselves with FFXVI. They did it with FFXIV. So we will see.

The most interesting thing of the reveal is that the directors of final fantasy XIV are making Final Fantasy XVI. I never played but some people say that Final Fantasy XIV with its expansions is the best game/MMO right now.

huge fan of FF since forever , what they did after FFX is ....ugh....was hoping for FFXVI to make a 180º and surprise the fans.....but nope.

Look at DQXI and Octopath ...amazing games! i disliked how Octo story worked but hey at least its "different"

Have been replaying Bravely games /sigh ....FF need to go back to its roots!

Right now Square Enix does the double dip. They release it initially just on PS, then a year later release it on other devices. To me the trailer looks so~so.
