The job posting stated "brand new scifi world" so won't be established IP.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    · Experience creating stories for massively multiplayer role playing games.
    · Able to accept and provide constructive criticism and maintain a professional attitude.
    · Independently self-motivated team player with excellent communication skills.
    · Passionate gamer with in-depth knowledge of current commercial game titles and an avid MMO player
    · Has been a key contributor from prototype to polish.
    · Meets/exceeds Amazon’s leadership principles requirements for this role.
    · Meets/exceeds Amazon’s functional/technical depth and complexity for this role.

Even with an established IP, creating stories is part of every MMO but you could be right. ((shrugs))

It specifically says "brand new scifi world."

You can create a brand new world with established IP - this is unlikely but possible, because meddling with existing IP licensing gets tricky.

Still - reading too much into job reqs is often misleading

But established and new are literally opposites.

Is it me or is Bobbie not amazing af. I love the fact that some of the side story actors are so powerful, phenomenal actresses.

Cara Gee playing Camina, whoa!!!! Excellent cast there. The purest definition of a belter.

Depends on the cloth they are cutting. Are they using the IP for a world that is not part of the main story. So the MMO does not need to worry about the books and TV show? Again, you could be wrong or you could be right. We all guessing =-)

At least Smed is smart enough to place pvp at the core or close

Isn't that how Amazon's New World started too?   And now look at it.

Creating a Firefly world or Stargate could be considered building a world from scratch.. but if they are just getting around to building a world wth have they been doing since 2017?
I fear though from the wording that if they didn't license an IP then the game will be DOA like pretty much every other AGS creation.

Going back to my original theory now that all the AGS devs are just leeching as long as possible and this is just AGS San Diego's turn in the rotation to pretend to do something to keep those paychecks for the next few years..

How the F**K could a company like Amazon be so accepting of one failure after another? After spending hundreds of millions what a disgrace to both the west and gaming industry this company is. Somewhere right now some korean CEO probably of Pearl Abyss or Kakao laughing so hard they fell off their chair.

Amazon needs to wake the fk up and either fire everyone and start new or just shut down completely cause everything about this company is pure amateur hour for a supposed "AAA Studio". All their "news" now is just testaments of their most recent failure.

Not like it'll do any good but they should call a company meeting and watch that streamer's video posted by the OP on repeat until the shame sinks in cause his tone in that video says it all.

@BruceYee I would love a Stargate MMO. I was so sad when that IP's MMO turned into vaporware.

It could also mean an existing IP that hasn't had a movie/TV/game made based on it.  It could be focusing on unique visuals.

I'm a bit leery of developers off-the-street constructing a good 'scifi world'.  It has been my experience that generally the creator needs some kind of creditable story-building experience to make their fiction engaging.  Using 'scifi' is a bit old-fashioned, SF is the preferred moniker, so using 'scifi' it gives an older impression.  I expect a 'discover why gravity is peculiar around planet Begula 7' in 'scifi', and 'kill 10 space rats' in 'SF'.

I think its too soon to judge in that way. Starting up a few studios and projects all so fast, teams really do their best the longer they work together. Figure out where they have holes and what they need to hire to round out a team.

Seems there's been more than just those 2 from Amazon and none of been any good.  1 cancelled before it got out of the gate, a race car game out of no where that didn't hang around .......    This video covers all of Amazon's stuff to date with the main thrust being about their upcoming LoTR game.

The SOE development team has the best programmers for mmos. What they accomplished with Planetside 1&2 and EQ series is a phenomenal testament to their programming and net coding skills. That said, the creative vision and business sense of the company is crap.

    Could be The Expanse MMO.

Its creators said it was originaly meant to be a mmorpg before it became a tv series and it's on Amazon prime now so...maybe.

Also at least one of the authors is a backer and plays Star Citizen.  :)

Dude sounds like he knows what he is talking about but i don't share the Warframe/Destiny want/need.

Shooters since UT have been incredibly bland, boring, generic   ,put me to sleep.garb a shotgun and run up some stairs like in Fortnite is beyond dumb.

Smedely wouldn't have a CLUE when comes to creating a HQ shooter map/s.So what kind of shooter would we get,a pile o junk trying to bait gamers in with loot,so as the author mentioned, looter shooters.

Personally i want VERY good creative maps to pvp in because wandering around with no purpose other than loot is just not fun to me.Then i want really cool innovative weapons and NOT more shotguns or anything like BR's.
The other important factor is that we might be giving Smed too much credit for even th eEQ franchise, can we not say that Brad was a more important figure in EQ than Smed?

Some asked "do we really need another Planetside".
To answer that,i didn't even want the first one lol, when i tried it i lasted about 20 minutes, then shook my head asking myself WTF was i thinking.
If we seriously look back Smedley has RUINED every game he touches.

He blew it with H1Z1,a shallow release, blew it with that f2p kids game, blew it with the TCG,blew it with SWG,He screwed over EQ turning it into a cash shop and changing the stats to be pretty much pointless.

Smedely not only failed games, like EqNext..Landmark,he FAILED SOE.Games like Planetside were just imo crap, worse than that Trion shooter and nobody liked that game.
