Just saying that not being able to preorder a PS5 (which I wasn't going to do anyway) isn't going to suddenly make me want an Xbox instead.

Sony dropped the ball hard on preorders and they deserve all of the flak for it. But their mistake doesn't make the Xbox any less comparatively unappealing: it doesn't suddenly give them a good software lineup.

"The post also covered off when availability for Xbox All Access – the financing option which will net you:

Xbox Series S for $24.99/month for 24 months of Game Pass Ultimate
Xbox Series X for $34.99/month for 24 months of Game Pass Ultimate"

The fool and their money are easily parted. That's $600 for the Series S, and $840 for the Series X in just 2 years. If I buy an XB it would be paid in full on the day of purchase. Not paying double the price for the convenience of financing.

Wait a year at min, let others work out all the problems, then buy the next better iteration for less money too.

I have to be fair to Microsoft. You're being misleading. The actual value of the deal is the total price - the price of Gamepass. The price of Gamepass is $15/month. And if you own an Xbox, you want Gamepass - it's the only value Xbox has with their shoddy lineup.

The S is $10/month, or $240. That's cheaper than upfront.

The X is $20/month or $480. Also cheaper than upfront.

No no, i'm not misleading. It is clear the gamepass is included, which is fine. The thing is, having access to hundreds of games i don't like doesn't mean i will play them. So they are forcing gamepass on you even if you only want like 3 or 5 games from that library. The most loyal XB users will have no problem there because they will enjoy most of those games. Everyone else would have a hard time justifying that much money over just 2 years, unless they don't care about burning cash.

As far as I understand, you cannot pay only $240 and $480 in monthly installments, you have to pay for gamepass so you are forced to pay double for the whole thing.

I am not sure but have you actually seen the lineup?
It includes 90% of titles that are not Xbox games.
I think it may actually surprise you what is included and it changes monthly.
There is a reason the sub numbers are so high and it goes far beyond just the XB studio games which make up just a small fraction of the titles.
I am not talking about the Gamepass lineup, which is great. It's an excellent value.

I'm talking specifically about their first party console game lineup, which, in my opinion, is bad.

Basically, Gamepass has value, but they have yet to justify to me the value of the console that they're selling it on as opposed to the PC I can already use it on.

That... really doesn't refute my point or make it a bad deal.

Basically, you're someone who doesn't like passive subscriptions and payment plans and would rather choose your games and when you pay for them. That's great. So am I.

But it stands to reason that the type of person who would be more inclined to go with an installment plan is probably also the type of person who would be receptive to a subscription plan that gives them a better deal on that platform.

In all fairness I'm not sure you would ever buy one at all. You love Sony. There is no shame in that. I love them all but I have my bread buttered with MS.
Yet Sony has 3 or 4 titles I really like.
Nintendo gives me joy as well.
On a positive note Some XB studio games have really taken off well on Steam as best sellers =)
Glad to see the strategy to extend the net beyond just the box is paying off.
The long game has just begun.
I loved my Xbox 360, by the way. They had a pretty decent lineup back then, and that's when Sony was the one who took ages to catch up on the game lineup. Just not seeing it now and I don't during current gen either.

I don't disagree with that. That's why I said I would pay it in full, because I would be getting ripped off on that financing plan since i'm not a gamepass target. But i find it strange when people say it's really cheaper when you really cannot bypass gamepass on those monthly payments, effectively making the console itself more costly.

I guess they should have been more clear that the financing option will only really benefit people interested in gamepass.

Also, with this pre-scheduled launch, expect the bot-utilizing scalpers to be an even bigger problem than with the PS5 preorders.

We're seeing them in full force with the Nvidia 3080 launch, and we'll see them here.

Physical hardware launches aren't fun anymore, because eBay and Amazon have ruined them.

Do everyone a favor and don't purchase a marked up system from a scalper when it does happen. Don't reward shitty behavior.

Good point and especially with the small pool of available stock. The 3080 was barely more than a paper launch. The PS5 I also believe was somewhat limited especially if the yield issues are a real thing in production currently. I remember casually getting a PS4 preordered a couple days after they went up for preorder.

But yes the bots will be horrible for the XBOX launch as well but at least you have a shot because you know when it will happen. Anyone that pays the over inflated scalper prices is someone who has severe patience issues or just money to burn in a stupid manner.

But also the $70 price tag for regular editions of the games is giving me a bit of pause if I am being honest.  At some point it just not worth it and I think we are getting there especially since direct download distribution is growing by huge numbers.  MS wins this round though I will get a PS5 at a later date if some of the games do not get ported to PC or Xbox
I don't think that's entirely fair. These consoles are big holiday wishlist items, and the scalpers are playing on that. They're okay with disappointing kids on Christmas if it means they make a few hundred dollars from another parent with more money to spend.

Good they learned from Sony screw up. I also suspect they will have more available to preorder than sony did.
Doesn't this whole ordeal just smell of not being organized and just rushing all of this out in time for the Christmas sales?

You know how many kids are going to get these from their parents at Christmas and how many games are going to be sold, billions worth of revenue.

The games released will be the same, nothing more than rushed out to cash in on the hype.
When new PC's come out, like every month lol, nobody gets too hyped or really even cares. We don't say "oh look a new CPU,let's go out and buy every high end game I can find".
The console market is just insane because unlike PC gaming,it does kickstart a massive spike in new sales  on games.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

I went in a weird depressed state of mind for about 8 hours because I missed the ps5 price reveal. Did not expect prorders to be ready. Spamming refresh obsessively during all the mayham.

So apparently Microsoft just acquired Bethesda & Zenimax. That has crazy implications for both the Xbox and Gamepass, as well as potentially ESO.
