"The catch is the thing is massive and so you’ll need to sit back about 3 feet or so to comfortably use it."
That's for couch PC gaming only I would have thought, not desktop.
It is noticeable that Next Gen for the PC is about more computing power, while "next gen" for consoles is about exclusive games. Sounds like "Same Gen" for consoles to me.
Xbox Series X is preordered and will probaly upgrade my pc next year. My PC and Series X are connected with Game Pass which is what I use to play games now. I dont spend $60 on games anymore and with Playstation going $70 for its 1st party games its a no go for me.
$70 for 1 Sony game I can get 5 months of Game Pass Ultimate which covers me for both console and pc.
If that works for you then that's great. As for the PS game cost, you make it sound like PS users are doomed to pay $70 for every game and that's their only choice, which is extremely misleading.
Since I am not comfortable with a controller except on turn based games I rather like my keyboard and gaming mouse with 19 button set up. So for me if the games come to the PC I am already in heaven. Sony though usually never allows their games on the PC. Think Horizon Zero Dawn and Persona 4 are an exception. So I will have to pick a new PC and PS5.
I have a PC and a Switch and will get the PS5. Xbox Series X I will skip as every Xbox game seems to also come out on PC anyway. The only reason for me to by an Xbox Series X is if ES6 would become console Xbox exclusive with no PC version.
That would be worrisome, never thought of that.
Microsoft has PC domination and they have xbox, basically two platforms, i'll assume (i hope) they wouldn't forget their largest install base.

They said for the 1st party games which is true unless they have revised that statement. Other games are still going to be 60 which is true but honestly I have been a pretty hardcore Sony fan since original playstation but they are over reaching wanting 70 bucks when 60 continues to be the norm.
That's not what I'm talking about. Games go on sale all the time. Sony has always had their first party PS essentials section where they cost $20 (same Nintendo did before with their Nintendo Selects program). All their first party games end in that section, both digitally and physically.
They also have PS Now which used to be atrocious, but because gamepass was so good, Sony changed it to stay competitive. PS Now is identical to gamepass right now. For $10 dollar a month you get over 700 games, first and third party. Only PS3 games have to be streamed due to cell processor lack of compatibility, but PS2 and PS4 can be downloaded and played locally. Nobody is talking about that because people only see gamepass and refuse to notice how MS is forcing positive change in real time on the competition.
Both XB and PS right now have a lot more choice on how you get your games than ever before. Nobody is stuck paying $70 per game.
I’ll stick with my PC and Switch for at least a year and then add a PS5 second model. Xbox is basically my PC on the TV which is something I have no interest in.
I do hope that in 2021 the prices of 1TB SD carts will be coming down. I use a 400gb on my Switch and its more then full.

I have an xbox on the tv for the boys mainly, but i'd used it for netflix and had it hooked up to a pc for streaming downloaded movies/shows, after a pc upgrade i hooked that pc straight up to the tv and have never looked back. You can just do anything.

Other than new first party titles are not on Now and will not be ever on day one of release. Which is a big appeal to Gamepass to me, well that and cross save with the PC.
I should have said almost identical. But i think we can all agree that alone won't tip the scale significantly. People still buy day 1 Steam games and they are not on gamepass. But i know what you mean, if MS keeps pushing in that direction, Sony would have to keep catching up with the competition.
I've no plans to get a next gen console, pc is still far superior.
Thinking about it if i ever swap out the xbox i'd probably go PS5 as i'll already have gamepass on the pc, but at the same time it would make more sense to have the next gen xbox. I dunno, pretty much only play wow r/c and swg:l.

I've never needed the latest and greatest or trying to keep up with the Joneses. What I have now is fine. When it is no longer fine, then I look at other things. By then, they will be half the price and it will still be new to me.
I'm a PC gamer (or fake gamer guy depending on how you define it). I got a PS3 that's served as my blu-ray and DVD player and only played a few games on it. Honestly, it's not in a good position in my living room to actually play a game on it. If I get one, it would have to have a disc drive so it can continue do double as a media player. I'd use something else, but I like watching movies (and listening to podcasts) at 1.5 speed and the other DVD player I have can't do it.
I spent $2.1k on my PC in 2017. I got the 1080ti plus all the rest of the good stuff, and an expensive G-Sync monitor. I was able to run anything max graphics, at 4k, at 60+ FPS. My computer just went dead last week. That'd be like buying 2 PS5's a year for 3 years. After being a PC gamer for 20 years, I think I'm going to retire from it. It doesn't offer the same value and consoles are now made to play games in 4k. Based on the games I play, which are mostly older games, with maybe a modern game sprinkled a couple times a year, I barely touched the capabilities of my 1080ti and the RTX 3's are already out.
Money is not an issue for me. I could keep a modern PC updated while also owning every console and not blink, but bad financial decisions are still bad decisions. I'm having a hard time justifying footing the bill for a new PC every 4-5 years when they cost 3-4x that of a console and rarely push a game beyond what a console can do anyways.
Developers need to make games that push the latest technology, and then you'd have me forking out thousands again for a PC like I used to when a new MMO or game came out that I couldn't run at max settings already.
Another thing is controllers. The older I have gotten, the more pain I feel in my hands when using a keyboard + mouse to play MMORPG's. So I've gravitated to playing all of my games using a XBOX controller on the PC. I'm hoping more MMORPG's will offer controller support like TESO and FF14. If not, that'd be the only reason to buy another PC. In the meantime, my gaming laptop, which has a 1650 card in it does the job on any games I'm currently playing (FF13 atm).
I built a new PC last year and have an RTX 2060, so im pretty comfortable with what my machine can do. Plus, not like there are a huge amount of games making use of ray-tracing yet.
On the console front, I need to wait and see what will be in the games libraries.
Last generation, the xbone and ps4 libraries didn't offer anything that I wanted to play. No exceptional exclusives, plus both consoles have been ignoring split-screen / couch-coop. So, I skipped that generation. So far, its looking like I'll skip this generation too.
Currently Playing: WAR RoR - Spitt rr7X Black Orc | Scrotling rr6X Squig Herder | Scabrous rr4X Shaman
Unless my PC breaks with its 1080ti and if I discovered the Xbox could load all the same mods that I do on the PC, I would never have any interest in it, or any console for that matter. I would probably upgrade to the new 3000 series, but only after they got their #($! together with all the issues they are having.

There Is Always Hope!
The Oculus Quest 2, a standalone VR headset with pretty decent resolution for $299 (that can also work with a PC)
and
The HP Reverb G2, a 4k display dedicated PCVR headset for $599
I couldn't imagine buying a console in this day and age.
