Because of the mega server feature.

WvW was the biggest missed opportunity with this game. Done so shallow and poorly.

But then why when the Metas hit are there multiple maps that are full and you can't get into them? Mega Server feature, but why would a mega server feature matter if there were no players and the game was dead?

This article must have missed that the Silverwastes had the same set up years ago, and felt like PvE WvW.

Last I checked you couldn't build siege equipment in the silverwastes, but it's been a long time since I've been there.

There was a whole bunch of siege items, like arrow carts that you could build near the Vinewrathe.

Actually the game is far from dead and it is also releasing its f2p version on steam in November which is cross play with the stand alone server.

But in Drizzlewood Coast siege equipment is actually used everywhere. It's necessary to get through doors for the meta too.

The Walking siege engines in Silverwastes were pretty cool, would have loved to have seen something like that in WvW all things said and done.

But yah, Silverwastes felt like a more dynamic WvW than WvW felt like on a lot of days, along with really good rewards.

So, maybe if they make enough good PvE spin offs of WvW they might eventually get around to making WvW not Suck.
