"I certainly can’t remember any other expansion ever being delayed after it’s release date was announced."

The Burning Crusade was delayed from November 2006 to January 2007 so this certainly isn't the first time.

You are not wrong, however, WoW was still a relative small game and did not have the cash cow of Activision behind it. While TBC was delayed, they have not had a delayed launch in 14 years, it is actually pretty impressive.
Now, if you play the beta, you could have saw this coming a mile away. The system and skills and quests... pretty much 25% of the game were not ready for a AAA game release. I am more disappointed they did not announce it sooner. The writing has been on the walls for a while now, but I guess the company is a bit too prideful (I know a raid that can help them).

The extra pre-patch time is more than welcome.

For someone whom checked out of wow a decade ago the pre-patch todo list is massive.

How much time someone would want with pp depends on many factors, how many goals they have set, one main toon, not an alt person, a vet (always played), the list starts dwindling rapidly.

Soon as pre hits i want to cap out a shaman and warrior to complete my played all 12 classes goal, currently aiming to cap my pally before pre, then unlock two allied races from legion as i'll now be able to fly in legion and wod, and no rep, just the quests, then test drive all 12 classes with all the new changes and figure out what 4 i want to main for SL, and tweak them visually probably just the 4 i decide to main, it goes without saying as that's kinda why i wanted to save more than 2 alts to cap but check out the new leveling system, and whatever else comes with it.

I would never want to rush all that, try and jam all that into a week or two would suck.

Prepatch is revamp of the game essentially, yeah here's a week and then slam a new expac, nah, this is far, far better.

I was becoming discouraged that pre-patch would drop and we would only have 2 weeks, i need 2 months!

Wow is on its last legs. It's almost 20 years old and it's foundation is even older.

It might be time to start over and make a new game.

Every years people talk about WoW being dead and if by dead they have more paying customers then all MMO-rpgs, only then would you be right. I am not a fan boy. I have a love hate relationship with WoW but I have said and will say again. Only Blizzard can kill WoW!

Oh wow. I remember anxiously waiting for BC, and heading to outland. I also remember feeling like it took forever between when it was announced and when it released. But I don't at all remember it having its release date changed. Apparently that didn't matter much to me.

They aren't going to make a new mmorpg. They tried and decided that they just couldn't make it "fun." So they took (rumor has it) the work they've done and finagled Overwatch which a lot of people seem to find "fun."

    So there's your new game.

"WoW is dead" has been going on every year for the last 10 years or so yet the game is still kicking.

Not sure who is more persistent, the game or the naysayers.

I don't disagree, but last time they tried that; they had to scrap the project, and flip the art assets into what is now called Overwatch today.

To me it just seems like they've lost too many of their talented creators over the years and they have too many people that only know how to maintain something rather then create something.

Even though creating expansions might be viewed as an act of creation, it really isn't something being created from the ground-up and from nothing.

There is a general theory i have of Blizzard and revolves around ALL their games not just THIS release.
Blizzard is first a business and every decision they make has an agenda behind it and NOT simply a bug fixing or polish agenda.

They have released in the past glitchs/bugs and often quite notable ones as well as game breaking ones, broken quest lines.
So for me this paints a bigger picture,yo ucan't play one mind game of saying "we are polishing the game"or play the marketing side of "we want this to be the best possible release for our FANS" and then go ahead and just release bugs and/or map glitchs anyhow.

They do testing,if there is a problem it is not magically just one person's problem,it is a game bug or a map glitch for EVERYONE.This is important to remember because they would have most certainly seen many of the issues from the past including needed nerfs but yet again just said ,screw it let's release it anyway.

The team almost AWLAYS follows up with nerfs or changes,so what is the point of even testing if your going to treat it like it hasn't been tested at all?

So what is my opinion on this delay?IMO it is identical to Amazon's play with the the New World deal. They are "pretending"they care but in reality they still sold bus loads of copies before the game even gets released with pre orders,so they made off like bandits.Blizzard can do the same "look at us all caring and stuff"but when this gets released I guarantee the exact same result as every other time,bugs/glitchs and nerfs.

Before anyone thinks this is normal and acceptable yo ushould remember that i played FFXi for 15 years and only ONCE was there ever a point the team tried to make changes and they actually botched it up and were much better off leaving the release as was.Point being every single release was fine just the way it was,i never encountered any bugs or map glitch's,everything worked all quests all good.

Welcome to the last decade of wow for me, except you did far more than i did every xpac.

But... to nutshell it, i came for classic, stayed for BFA, and now pumped out of my mind for Shadowlands/Revamp(wow 2.0).

Have you even played it in the past 10 years?

If WOW were done using the Square Enix approach it would be called WOW XV by now.

Their expansions are not like other MMO expansions. They use them to change everything including underlying tech.

Bringing up the "20 years old bit" just shows you have no idea how or why they've kept it going this long and is still the top Western MMO.

    @Eldrach

If you want the "good old wow feeling" play classic, classic BC is coming and ofc classic wrath will be without a doubt coming, and probably where they will cap the classic run.

Personally classic is a completely different feel for me, even from, BC and Wrath. I'm always going to be playing Classic, i already know i won't bother with BC or Wrath classic, overplayed those two expac to where i still can't stand them today.

    Classic is Classic

BC, Wrath, up to WoD is old wow.

Legion forward is the new wow and SL is officially marking the launch of WoW 2.0
