Thinking about FF11 again

Thanatosx33Thanatosx33 Member Posts: 183

Well, reading about FF, and having not chosen my mmorpg for the summer, I am strongly considering coming back. Well, I never realy got that far in the first place, level 30...Played sam for a lil while too.

Anyways, I don't remember much about the game since I havn't played it in well over a year. So, I was thinking about making a whm. Money was always an issue for me in FF, I know at later levels you can teleport for gil and thats fairly lucrative, right? What level can you get/use teleport? Also, What can I do to make money in the meantime if I do decide to play again, on a whm.

One last thing, will the most prestigous and best equipment be a big issue w/ a whm? I know with my warrior I needed like all the best shit, but I guess its because I'm the one taking the hits right? lol.

In addition to answering my questions, any general tips about whm would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks! :)

Alot has changed since you left. Nobody does teleport services anymore because it doesn't make any money.

But to answer your question, teleport spells are useable at 34~38.

As for presteige...no matter what your job is, the presteige is always linked with the kind of equipment you have.

There are alots of new methods to make money now, but with the release of Aht Urghan, SE has made it so some of the superior armors are obtainable by completing what they call Assault. Assaults are mini-missions that you can do with any number of people, kind of like BC.

Hope you find your way back to the game, and good luck :)

I dunno, I'm on Remora, and I can always get a teleport in Jeuno a couple of minutes after I shout for one. However, it is true that it doesn't make much money; the going rates for teles have not kept up with inflation. Honestly, farming gets you more money that tele-taxiing, and pretty much always has. WHMs tele-taxi mainly because farming is difficult with WHM.

Teleporting on Pandemonium is really lucrative. There are tons of people shouting in Aht Urghan and Jeuno ranging from 3k - 10k. I never turn down a quick buck teleporting when i am in town crafting, costs me like 3 minutes to tele them, warp back and I am a 75 SMN and have cooking and fishing at 100, alchemy on 60. It's free gil for zero investment.

Teleport to the 3 Main Crags are level 37. (holla, dem and mea)
Altep and Yoath are level 38.
    Vahzl is level 42.

I was thinking about starting a craft too, maybe cooking... Juice is a must-have with a mage so I hear? What cities offer cooking?

Go with Windhurst (sp?) for cooking. And if you start there, the Tarutaru race (aka Galka football) will get you the most mp.

You know tarutaru are coool as hell, but I realy dont wanna be a taru ;p

I'll have to agree with ChrisMattern and Taus01 on this ive been playing on Asura server for sometime now and i always seem to be able to get a teleport .

Alot of the times the guys do it for free even i offer a reward most people on the game though just dislike spammers that just shout continuously for a Telleport and ignore them.

Where ive found that if you find someone with a hig level Whm job and politely ask if they are busy they usually say they will help.

I have a lvl 25 Whm on Asura and its pretty fun because it's a more laid back job where you just ahve to sit back and watch your party members health. Which if you have a macro its alot easier to heal.

Although it take a while to get to lvl 10 after that its pretty smooth sailing because people always need a Whm to help out. Especially if you sub Blm with it or Smn that give the extra bonuses for MP and stuff making it alot easier to do your job.

But i would recommend Whm as a job for you to start off with and just have fun with it and as far as money at low lvls you can fish  wich has changed since you played im sure of.

Wow, the game seems so much differant now...since when I played in 2004...

So I have a Question wich I think could help Thanatosx33 decide wether he wants FFXI again, and Can help me because Im thinking of re-joining myself

What has Changed in FFXI since the early days?

Well at the moment im not high enough lvl to tell you everything that has changed in the last year other than fishing crafting Ah prices.

But above all the jobs that there are now are cool im about to get Blu and Cor than i can tell you more about them but for now all I can say is I am having a little trouble at the moment getting a party on Asura in Quifum for some reason averyone say monk is easy to get a party with at my level but i say otherwise.

There is a lot of new items in the game as well as far as weapons and armor goes and new recipes. As of now though i have not been able to go to the areas on the new expansion pack yet but once i do i bet they'll be great as well.

Well, I haven't played any of the new jobs yet, but this is what I know:

Corsair--I know this one the best, I've partied with one several times. COR is another support job, to go with RDM and BRD. They get a luck-based ability to buff people, where you can decide to try and improve the buff at the risk of losing it all. Amazing range of buffs, too, which are in their own catagory and stack with everything, but you can only have two COR buffs on a player (works like BRD party songs) (yes, they get their own Refresh at 40, but they get a buff to increase your healing MP gain much earlier). No debuffing ability themselves, but at level 40 they get an ability to strengthen debuffs by using special cards as an expendible. They also get good Marksmanship skill and can be deadly with guns.

Blue Mage--learns the abilities of mobs, gets an array of interesting abilities, most offensive and self-buff, which cost MP for the BLU to cast. Amazingly, the defensive buffs they can learn can make them good tanks (yes, a tanking mage!).

Puppetmaster--a pet class, you get a pet automaton to use. I'm not sure how easy it is to replace a lost automaton, whether you can carry a spare one in inventory or not. Certainly it costs $$. The automaton is customizable by getting different parts for it and can be amazingly tough; I've seen an automaton tank part-time for a group, and do it well. So basically you get a really awesome pet, but one that's not easy to replace (even DRG had the cool-down timer on calling their dragons reduced to 20 minutes).

I teleport Tarutaru for free, yeah i am a racist. Galka i charge double cause of size.

    What has chanegd since 2004?

Impossible to list. So many changes. Most notable are:

    1. No more MPK possible. They changed the Monsters behaviour and they will now depop if they loose aggro. No more trains of 20 bats and 5 beetles in Garlaig Citadel, no more trains of 10 crawlers, 5 shrooms and 7 flys in crawlers nest. They just depop and everyone is safe.

    2. Alot of class balancing and more to come in the next months.

    3. COR, BLU and PUP Jobs in the new expansion. Very interesting Jobs all with a certain Twist and very creatively done.

    4. Banning and enforcing RMT. They put the hammer down on RMT accounts and the impact on the economy was very noticable.

    5. Tons of new gear, crafting recipes, quests, a new Avatar, new ENM/BCNMs ....

OP: Best Place to start cooking is indeed Windurst as the main guild branch is located there. Making your own Juice and Pies is wonderfull if you are a Mage. Also good profit to sell the ones you don't use. If you need help with cooking feel free to ask. You need minimal investment (~10k) and a bit of time (~1h/day) and you can get cooking to 60+ in about 2-3 weeks easy.

Hm, on the cooking thing. What level can I start making mp regeneration items, like juice and stuff? Also, what do you think would be the easiest craft to pick up from the beginging and start leveling? Because I know I'm probably not going to have a ton of money to invest in a craft. What I'm realy looking for is a craft to support me from begining to end, So i can afford my basic equipment and spells. I remember I had a very hard time affording stuff before, and thats the reason I ended up quitting. So, I want to do my homework this time so I dont get myself in a situation where I cant afford stuff. I am strongly considering cooking because i could make mp regeneration items for my mage, which would make me more affective. What craft would help make cooking easier, Fishing?

My wife decided to try FFXI again a couple
months ago to see why so many people seemed to love the game. After a couple of
weeks she canceled the account due to game play issues that she couldn't seem
to find the fun in (combat, grouping, grind time). But I think it was the lack
of outfits or variations of outfits that sealed the deal for her to look else
    ware.

Just looking over her shoulder I knew it wasn't something I wanted to open a
second account for as nothing really seemed to change since the first time I
    played.

Nevertheless, just like my wife, it may be best to give FFXI a shot and see if
things look differently in your eyes.

    Me like games... *burp*

Orange Juice has a cooking cap of 10, which means you can be making it fairly reliably at around 8 or 9. Making your own juices is particularly appealing for mages because the juices don't stack, which means that the materials to make it take up less space the juice would. Making your own juice in the field as you need it works quite nicely. Cooking is perhaps the easiest craft to learn, but because of that, there's not a great deal of money in it. FFXI's economy is largely player run, and the niches that are easy to do are inevitably crowded and don't offer large returns. But there is money to made there, and cooking is a craft that goes together with mages quite well. Fishing is the craft that goes with cooking best, no doubt about it; there are a large number of fish dishes and sushi *always* sells well. Fish are expensive to get off the AH, too. Fishing is not that expensive, and produces good gil, but requires a real time commitment. Fishing is also about the only craft that really requires you to level a job, as you have to go where the fish are, and the better (and tougher) fish are in the higher-level areas. But even a new character starting out fishing can fish up moat carp, and those are 10,000 gil a stack. Good luck!

Well donnieb i have to say for one if you didnt like the game before a few new jobs and some items wouldnt make you want it i dont relly recomend wasting you money to cancle the account in a couple of weeks at the most.

I have been a fan and an enjoying player of this game for almost 2 years now and i have to say im about to call it quits im getting so bored with it and there isnt enough new content to keep it alive for me.

The amount of ppl on my server is dwendling i can never find the items i need for my jobs lvl in the AH and the people are just down right rude. If you ask a question like I asked a question about the new event on the game right now and all of a sudden like 6 people started spamming Lutherin is Gai noob and needs his mommy to help him or some stupid stuff along those lines.

Im just getting fed up with the nonsence and dont fell like listening to it anymore i mean im actually considering going back to Guild Wars for Christ sake.

Back to the subject though no donnieb i dont think you should waste your monay and time on this game not unless you can recover a lvl 30 or higher job that is lol.
