horrible grouping

 Today i thought i'd start grouping seeing how im level 11 now. I've been gathering groups, trying to kill stuff. And after 4 hours, i noticed i actually lost exp. I really wish i could just solo with good exp. The thing is, when i look for someone between level 10-13. 2-7 names will show up. My interest in FFXI is starting to fade, i hope i didn't waste 70 bucks, if so... Let's just hope i get into the UXO beta..

    yea that does suck i am lvl 21 now and i have olny had one basd group  where were you going to kill stuff maybe that was not the right place or something but i hope you have better luck from now on

    I've found that grouping gets considerably easier once you hit somewhere around level 15. Until then there arn't many players who like to group for some reason. You can solo fairly well in the Highlands from levels 10-13 fighting Rock Eaters (all the way to the west, near a cave). Around 12 you can try to get a Valkrum dunes group, with moderate success. By level 15 though, you should have no problem getting a group in the dunes. Just stick it out a little longer, you're almos there image

    Honestly, the grouping system here is awful, its fun at some points, boring at others, the incosistency is never there, there is no line that once you reach it, its all fun and gravy.. Imo 1-15 was a major pain, 15-20 was easy and fun, 20-25 another major pain, 25-30 easy and fun... Never played past 30( Got my warrior to 30 then a paladin to 30) .. The game just didnt offering anything to me, was boring, the graphics looked awful(I had max settings on with a brand new alienware comp, I dont know how people can say this game had nice graphics) anyways, its just a lame version of EQ. goodluck with it though.

    I guess it boils down to opinion. So far the game has been nothing but fun for me.

     I had fun today. I got to level 12 with a good group. Eventually we all died though. But i still didn't de-level.

    Yet, I havent had any troubles grouping, except at level 20 in Qufim, but at 22 it gets as easy as anywhere else. Having a WHM same level as you in LS or FL always help. image

    There's so much to do in battle, it's great =). Skill chains, magic burst, provoking, etc. makes you pay attention in combat. There have been situations when I've grouped that a good skillchain/magic burst yields some nice additional damage.

    Yeah, I'm actually Warrior, and tanking is awesome, provoke and don't care about HP cause you know there is a WHM doing his job, and you do Skillchains, adding strategy to battles, I can't tell I've been sleepy in a Group Battle, not yey, anyway.

    IMO, it's expecting a lot to find a good group at level 11... There's very little reason to group anyway until level 13 or above. There are a lot of spots where you can get xp quick through lvls 10-13, then you're at the level where groups give you greater xp gain, and because of it, you have people that do it more often and know how to group. I have never seen the point of grouping below 13 though. Yeah, leveling goes slower the further you progress, but that is every MMORPG - the price you have to pay for getting stronger.

    My advice for anyone below 13 is when the game starts putting you asleep, change your tactics. I might fight decent matches/even matches when I am close to the next level, but otherwise take on mobs that you can kill about 4-5 or more between heals. Easy prey are the way to go... they hit you less, so you can go longer before needing to rest, and you still get 12-38 xp per kill, meaning at the least you get 12x5 = 60 per heal, or I've earned as much as 400xp before I had to heal solo, and the time goes by quick because you're constantly fighting. This works well until you find easy prey areas drop to 'not worthwhile' and the decent/even match areas are too risky. Then and only then, is when it's time to group. image

    In retrospect, there is one reason to group below lvl 13. Just for the hell of it :) It's fun to party with friends and explore or level, but just don't expect to get better xp out of it then soloing until after lvl 13 :)
