MO2 Alpha Testers Perspective of General Community Support

MaDeuceMaDeuce Member UncommonPosts: 145
Look there are a lot of Questions and fewer Comments of MO2 atm about testing and development. I could bring the CEO here to answer questions but as of now Henrik is reluctant to for the ONLY sake that the Trolls on this site mmorpg give heart burn to creativity. (Not healthy mmo support community apparently). I believe in support and change.. No one wants energy and time spent that way. So choices have to be made.. How do you @ the Man here amongst the flies? Lets talk expand your reach!

I'm a big believer in show don't tell. I'm also a believer in that it's hard to do that at times.

"you" have to act professionally and be the "bigger man" when it comes to the game's detractors. Instead of engaging them in some sort of personal conflict perhaps you could just let it wash over you and say something like

We understand your reticence considering the former game had its issues but we are working hard to earn the players' trust and to deliver a game worthy of their time and money.

    Or something like that.

But if I had a game company I would not have you as the front man. You're not as bad as some by a long shot but your engagement with the people on the forums isn't professional at all.

But maybe that's ok? Maybe that's not a concern? If that's the case then you should accept that people are going too then engage you on those same terms and you are going to have a rather hostile time talking about the game.

The people on this forum are no more trolls than any other community; including in game communities.

If you were to show a great game, explain your challenges and explain what your team is trying to do differently and JUST stick to that narrative you would have more people taking you seriously.

I think the problem isn't the trolls, it's how the game was presented and how the perception of the game was upon launch until now the second game. Henrik surprisingly stuck with his game, it leads me to believe he actually really wants to make the game he wants. But the problems with the first game caused his own feedback, not the trolls. He shipped a beta on a disc instead of the final game, there were game breaking duplication bugs, NPCs would spawn on top of eachother constantly, the combat didn't work as intended most of the time, didn't they even need to use a community made patcher due to not knowing how to make a working one?

I feel like they need to show us the second game is actually going to be better, not just expect people to react in a positive way no matter what. I'm all for the ideas he has for these games, I love full loot PvP and action combat. I love the crafting ideas from the first game. It just had so many issues.

Terms are genuine. I'm a FAN of MMOs. You are right, I have a unique way of approaching things that's because I'm not surrounded by people in my life that I cant genuinely conversate with. Higher thinkers talk logic and real. I'm not paid advertisement but trying to make real connections. So yeah cant buy what's given genuine thats on both sides of the isle good and bad. so I take your comments as genuine. So far Fans cant help make connections on MMORPG according to my data and feedback. Everything gets collected and rated on both sides of the isle. Ill critic all the experience.

Not sure what you are talking about.

I'm not surrounded by people in my life who play video games. Well, a few but it's very much "a few."

that's why I come here, so I can discuss games.

Having said that, you are not just "a player" discussing games but you are the face of the game your team is creating. You could just say "this is the way it is, this is how it's going to be" but that also means that the back and forth when discussing this game is going to sound like players discussing and yes, even trolling the game.

Yet a developer really needs to step it up considering the money, time and effort that is needed just to get these games off the ground.

If someone says your game sucks (whether it is true or not) that is coming from a place of frustration and anger. True, it could be anger at something else in their lives and they are just lashing out. However, it could be because they felt burned by your previous offering.

So understand that the first incarnation of Mortal Online left a sour taste in players' mouths and deal with the why of it. Don't deal with their anger. Deal with where that anger, presumably being because of the game, is coming from.

And then address it. Show the good parts, talk about the challenges, how things will be different and then give actual game play footage showing it. Acknowledge where the shortcomings will be since it's not a AAA game with a huge team.

Set proper expectations and all and all do not engage on a personal level.

    Ding Ding DIng!

The one thing I would add is that Heinrich needs to publicly APOLOGIZE for all the bullshit from the first game.  That should be step one.  Publicly apologize for all the things you listed but also more far reaching things like the security issues where accounts were hacked and information exposed.  I believe CC info was exposed as well.  Apologize for the people that were allowed to ban evade by paying money.  For the crooked GMs that they employed.  All of it. That's where you START.  Not have someone come on and start spamming that only big brain people like MO.  That does the opposite.  It turns off anyone with half a brain.

Then step TWO should be giving FREE keys to each and every person that was burned on MO1.  Attach them to the bottom of the apology email and give them X free gametime to make up for it.  Most people will ignore it and toss it in the trash but some small amount might give it a look under those terms.

Certainly a higher percent than threads like this are ever going to generate.

hmmm I don't know about gifting the game for free. It's still a business and they are still going to need to not only recoup their money on development but also stay in business.

A discount and perhaps a month free should suffice.

I meant keys to their current testing.  Then decide on some free game time.
At one point I thought I saw you in Testing.. Maybe its because the way our conversation ended last I was being hopeful.. But that is another irrelevance.

Slap presenting a list of game breaking bugs  and unacceptable behaviour of the MO staff and the MO fans are pushing it aside as irrelevant and toxic.

    Is this the year 2010?

This thread made me feel young again!
