I need an offline game to play in car line.

eoloeeoloe Member RarePosts: 864
So I am looking for a game that I can play offline on my gaming laptop while I am waiting in the car line.
Being in a car, means no shooter, no twitch combat game. I would like to avoid controllers too.  So I lean more towards turn based games.

Currently, I play XCOM2 WotC, but I would like some variations of theme and gameplay.

What is your last offline gaming crush?

I'd recommend getting emulator for Playstation 1 or Gameboy Advance, and downloading some old games to play.

How about reading a good book? The original offline entertainment!

No, I spend most of my time reading already. Not for entertainment.

Nintendo switch - Breath of the wild

Well, I just bought a gaming laptop. It would feel awkward to "borrow" my son's switch after such an acquisition.

    Look into 9th Dawn.
It is an open world old school RPG series.
The latest just released, 9th Dawn: Shadow of Erthil
Pretty good stuff and it gets overlooked

I've seen it on steam. Looks like a good game, but the fast pace gameplay does not fit the bill. You know the mouse is on the passenger seat, which has some bumps on the sides, making it impossible to deal with a fast gameplay.

give him the laptop for the time being, and tell him if you find cheeto's on the keyboard he'll never see the Switch again. It'll be like new when you get back home.

RimWorld  - you will be hooked and probably play it outside the car too.

It is a strategy game where you crash land and start a colony with the goal to evolve and get off the planet... but so many unpredictable (and hilarious) things can happen by your even minor choices... I do it injustice with this description.  Amazing reviews.

PS - are you a Tesla driver that's going to put the car on autopilot and game.... suspect ;)

I'm a big fan of old time radio podcasts.  You can listen to 1940's - 1960 radio westerns, science fiction, detective and movie adaptations.

    I download mine via iTunes.

the best purchase you can make for gaming on the go. BOTW has cut many flights in half for me and family road trips. Love that game when on the move. I try to play it at home on the big screen but it just doesn't feel the same lol

    Good suggestion! Thank you.

No autopilot here. I am helplessly stuck between cars for a while. This is a school car line.

Ok that is fair. Maybe try Griftlands? such a good game.
    Or Into the Breach.
    Which is awesome.

Oh yes "Into the breach!" I entirely forgot about it!

    Griftlands seems interesting too.

    Thank you.

Well, people love to share their stories from the game.

Some turned based games I can remember are:

    Darkest Dungeon
Valkyria Chronicles & Valkyria Chronicles 4
Fell Seal: Arbiter's Mark (If you ever enjoyed Final Fantasy Tactics, it's similar)
    Banner Saga
Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden

And there's more, but that should be enough for a while.

A little dangerous with this amount of frustration while in a car.
  • ScotScot Member LegendaryPosts: 24,427
While driving a car, playing games is really dangerous. If any other person driving and you would like to play a game. There are several games that you can play on your mobile. I recommend you traffic Racer.

Torchlight 1 and 2, they are cheap, fun and can be played on and offline.
