So...Me and a buddy thought we would be safe to bring 2 Machariel to Null sec at server up, we were all excited to get our ships home to start ratting and making ISK.. we were WRONG https://zkillboard.com/kill/74848129/ and I was by no means rich after that I learned about hauling services and such
The list of mistakes and lessons I learned from them in EVE are too numerous to elaborate.
Joseph's story reminded me why I left four years ago (after a ten year run), CCP made design changes which forced mining caps / sub caps to be flown in field, exposing them to grave danger instead of permitting them to boost from within the safety of a POS.
Can't imagine mining in a solo Orca, I would have always had an army of escorts which would have gone in first to clear the road before bringing in the Orca.
Of course, I also can't fathom mining in Perimeter, seems like practically begging the Code to come along and gank you.

I think playing games like EVE in an environment where you can be distracted (the family home comes pretty tops here) is a recipe for disaster. You at least need your own bedroom or study to play in with a "do not disturb" sign on the door.
Or next time play a modern risk free MMO, there are tons to chose from.
It's kind of funny really - my 1st stint in EVE back in '08-'09 taught me to be ever vigilant in mmos, no matter if it's PVE or PvP situations. Not to mention it gave me some very serious trust issues regarding other players. If I don't know you I don't trust you. I've carried those lessons with me to every mmo I've played since lol.

Recliners are a deathtrap when it comes to EVE, trust me, I know.

I don't think there's enough space for me to write all the things I have learnt in one post in this thread but some do stand out as more significant.
When I lost my corpse in Everquest and I wondered around Toxxulia Forest for over an hour and finally giving up hope of ever finding it. I wasn't very high level but someone had given me a nice ring I should have immediately gone to the bank and put it in but wandered about and lost it. As anyone who has ever played in Erudin knows it is a huge nuisance to go from the forest back inside. I was so angry with myself for not making the effort. I didn't know about the /loc that you could hit just before you die and the location of your corpse would then be something you can easily find but I never forgot it again.
Most of the things I learnt were from Everquest because it was my very first MMORPG but over the years after playing so many games I've often come across something new and discovered ways to approach a multitude of things. Even a new game can teach you something and most embarrassing of all is discovering you have been doing something the wrong way for years in a game.
This is why I am often dismayed when I read chat and people castigating a new player for asking things in chat. When have we become so intolerant? Have we forgotten how we reached where we are right now? Unfortunately that is the current atmosphere many new players to the genre have to face. I am always happy when a game is able to show a community willing to take the time to teach. So what if the person asking could have found that out with some research but isn't this part of discovery too and the part of the game where we interact with others. People are not even willing to stop in a dungeon to help another member of the group understand their role. Perhaps having encountered recalcitrant and abusive responses one cannot blame them.
It is indeed a testimony to the weariness the current state of this genre is in. We read remarks and even I must admit to this that interacting with others have become very tiresome and people prefer to solo. I seem to have gone off tangent here so I will stop and say in parting that even as recently as yesterday I learnt something new from a game I was playing.
This article is one of the players mistake,I don't make mistakes in how I play a game because I have a true vision of how I want to play games. The only mistakes come in the form of the developer of which mistakes are more common place than rare happenings.
Eve simply does not offer nearly enough in ANY of it's design. It does not reinforce that you are an actual character in a world and that there is actually worlds. All of it is done in a very shallow manner with so little effort.
The vision I had for a game like this was never going to happen from this small team with no money who were barely able to even launch the game.No problem to be expected doesn't bother me because i simply ignore the game. However when I see a developer get a lucky break and make multiple millions from a dead beat game design I EXPECT a rapid improvement on the game.
Not 1 or 2 or 3 but several years of making loads of money and they still do very little with the game.IMO it has always been the lack of a quality game engine and likely also a lack of dev team skills.I just find it sad that after so many years and having so much money/profits they could never come even remotely close to the game I envisioned that it could be.
The game I envisioned is far more than doable especially when you consider how many years they had to slowly evolve this game into something special.IMO they would have tripled++ their profits because I bet there have been millions of gamers stop by and check this game out only to quickly exit.I personally stopped in at least 3x over the years and very quickly left.

1: Nothing is free.
Time is money if your not having fun or making the most you're doing it wrong.
2: Trust is the most valuable thing.
The list of people you trust should never exceed one hand.
3: Having good people is key.
No matter how dark the dawn looks having good friends at your back can make or brake your attitude towards everything.
