They had a good run. Luckily we still have devs who want to flesh out worlds and tell new and interesting stories ie CD Projekt RED, Larian and whoever made Disco Elysium for example.

Seems like a loss although not one that can be overcome. Perhaps EA should think about changing their culture so that Bioware stops becoming a revolving door.

Bioware, the in house EA studio that brought forth the gigantic flop known as Anthem, oh yeah, I would be optimistic about Biowares future, EA are known for keeping studios that cost them millions around and totally dont merge them into another........ *Edit*, its somewhat telling that this "article" chooses to name Biowares other games but are pretending that the most recent and biggest budget game Anthem didnt exist.

Are they the last two originals? If so I suppose Bioware is dead, long live bEAware? (Be Aware)

I said that Anthem indicated that EA did not want the old BW team to make the sort of games they used to make. That Anthem would likely not be a success because this team has no experience with that sort of game, drafting in some extra staff (if they even did?) does not cut it. So now we have DA coming up who knows when. If that is not a really big success that will be the end of BW in any recognisable from.

I think EA sees grand RPG's as very expensive games which do not have sufficient multiplayer angle to generate revenue. It is not a matter of them seeing this genre as risky, though they may do, it is a matter of how much potential profit any game has. There was that Star Wars game that was turned down because the microtransactions where not good enough, corporate thinking is all that matters to such companies.

The last decent game Bioware made was ME3.

Bioware was pretty much done by the time Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk left. They were one of the few companies that I could trust to release high quality games. With other companies I would always wait for plenty of reviews to be out before buying. Bioware games you could trust even on the day of release. You knew it would be quality and if it had problems they would fix it. I don't know if it was EA's fault or what started their downfall, but I am sad to see what the company has become.

People change, just because Bioware was known for making excellent games doesn't mean they'll continue to as they get older and crankier.

Let the younger generation get in there and perhaps help change the stagnated and depressive ideology of game design.

    Also, Unions.

I guess it's time for EA to buy a new studio with a hot franchise going. Because Bioware has long since jumped the shark. DA3 blew and ME is stagnant. (although I'm probably one of the few that actually liked MEA... because it was a standalone)

    Thank you!

I'm so tired of people pretending that DA Inquisition was good just because it was bigger than 2. Inquisition dropped all pretense of being an RPG with meaningful choices in favor of MMO-style mundane questing. Terrible game.

    EA is such a joke.

The game studios are really fun to work for when they are somewhere between 50 and 500 people.

Once they grow too big, the corporate culture starts to seep into all facets of the company and the work environment goes from "freedom of creativity" to "constrained and dictated" - and that's when it all starts to go to shit.

This has happened to Blizzard, EA, Riot, Epic... pretty much any company that "made it big", so yes there is very much a downside to too much success when it comes to video game companies.

It's not just video game companies. Same thing happened to Wizards of the Coast when bought by Hasbro. I was there. Just saying.

Always suspected that Hasbro just wanted the shelf space.....
