Well they put no effort into Valorant just a simple piggy back game off of the BR popularity.
So my assumption is they were sitting there and realized some cute cash shop scheme and how it would work in a mmo.
So two thoughts come to mind they see the success of GTA and now Cyberpunk or they look at a game like Destiny and want to piggy back off of that game design. The problem is those ideas might take some work and cost so nope, they are aiming for something cheaper and simpler albeit Destiny isn't a tough game to copy.

What I do NOT see is something new and creative coming out of Riot because everything they have made so far has INDIE cheap written all over it.

Same. And actually hoping it uses the preset League characters or close-enough create a characters.

I fell out of love with League years ago. But I do miss my old main, Twisted Fate.

I simply can't comprehend anything you just said. First off, Valorant is a great game that rivals both CS:GO and other FPS games. It's a tactical shooter that has shooting mechanics similar to CS/CS:GO that no other developers have been able to achieve, and it does it very well. It's fine if you don't like the game, but to say they put no effort into it, is not only wrong, but stupid. Also, it has nothing to do with BR.

Every game I've played from Riot Games has been very polished and high quality. The only game I can't comment on is Legends of Runeterra because I've simply never played it. But everything they make is super high quality, constantly being worked on and updated, and most of all.. FUN! I absolutely can't wait to see what they do for an MMO. I have no doubt that they'll get it right, and will take the time necessary to make sure it's polished and fun to play. They can do this because of the successful non-pay 2 win cash shops from their free to play games. Spoiled child.

    I hope it's good.

Shame this site is so scarce on the actual mmo news like Nexon being told to fuck off from the XI project, or Flyff getting a classic server that will have a playable beta real soon.

It's probably a mobile gacha game where the "multiplayer" is an implicit competition to see who can spend the most money. Those games sometimes call themselves MMOs.

I will so quote you ( again ), if they announce a LoL MMO .....on mobile! :D

I hope you wrong tho' ..

I hope I'm wrong, too.  I hope it's a desktop MMORPG and a really great game.

But LoL now has 153 champions, each with artwork and a bit of lore and so forth, and that would fit a mobile gacha game where you hope to get good champions out of the gacha quite well.  In fact, it's a prominent gaming IP that fits the needs of mobile gacha games so well that they should probably make such a game even if this isn't it.  There's money to be made off of cash grab mobile gachas, and so long as it's just licensing the IP to someone rather than pulling talented people off of real games, it's mostly harmless to do that in addition to whatever else they're building.

I've never played LoL but have viewed some YT videos about it & read about it through the years. An mmo about it sounds like it would have potential based upon my very limited knowledge about the current game, but if the announcement is now then the game is probably at least a few years away.

Tbh, it's a good idea, could easily work. The interest in Demacia or Noxus has always been high. And the artstyle could fit an MMO. I see it working.

I am getting the felling there is very little lore to make the background of a MMO here, also players are going to feel hard done my if "their" champion is not a character class. Hoping they get some good writers in and realise that when you try to make a world out of 153 character backgrounds some sacrifices have to be made.

An MMORPG announced?  By a game company famous for a MOBA title?  Pass.

It's a bit more telling that there's already major hype for this.  We should know by now that excessive exuberance for a game only leads to disappointment.  Did we learn nothing from 2020?  "We have met the enemy, and he is us." P.Possum

lore tehy do problem is each year they change it.

also i'm thinking more in lines of genshin impact with you use the champions as chars and gacha to get more, so anyone getting exited will fall as hard as cybepunk hype did.

also when you guys will learn to not get hyped of useless thing like this? it kinda explain why shaddy and criminal politicians get votes every single time, toss some pretty words and fools belive then

Hype, no. Cautious interest, yes. And that's a good thing. If we want this genre to recover, we simply cannot treat every rare announcement we do get with immediate cynnicism.

Apparently, people here actually need to be told that telling companies that we don't want things is how we don't get any more things.

On a related note, apparently some ex League of Legends developers are developing a MMOBA (a MMO with MOBA mechanics). That's only something I've seen attempted once before. Really interested in seeing how that turns out.

There was a MMO MOBA on Steam that launched and shut down and relaunched and nobody is playing it, I can't remember its name, but I played it for like 30 minutes and uninstalled - utterly pointless and boring.
