The Star Wars Galaxies: Legends team is planning to bring Bespin to the game in their fifth unofficial expansion. They've since outlined what players can expect from the new content in their latest Community Transmission. The team is so dedicated to getting out the new Bespin content, that they have advised the community that, until the new update has released, they are halting all other updates to better focus the expansions development.

    That's impressive I must say.

I'm surprised Electronic Arts aren't suing them though...

    Or Disney...

I don't think EA would even have a stake in the game as their license while covering SW, didn't include the SWG portion, now Disney on the other hand ......

There was a long article a while back on that subject; pretty much it came down to; 'it would probably cost more than it was worth'.

Main points the article brought up were:

    - It's a free EMU for a long closed game
    - Lucas gave the OK for people to use SWG stuff as long as they didn't make money off of it
    - And there seems to be some disagreement on the whole who actually owns that part of the SW universe, because of the whole AbandonWare concept

    Or Disney...

They are definitely flying below Disney's lawyers radar at the moment.  That situation could change if some advantage for Disney appears.  The general lifetime for an IP is around 75 years (varying depending on country).  I know I couldn't operate a business with that particular potential hanging over me.

Been playing there for over 3 years now.

Housing, Huge worlds, Unfathomable amount of stuff to learn, and do , deep af, and is why i make a monthly donation even when not playing it, like now SL is keeping me very busy atm.

WOW r/c pay sub = play and earn
    SWG:L optional$ = play and earn

No cash shop shenanigans, no gouging, basically no playing with your wallet, just pay your admission and ENJOY, leave the cash shop mmo's for the whales.

That could change in a matter of days, just like it changed for the WoW illegal servers.

I hope not. This is a wonderful way to enjoy a great game that got left behind. Still has my favorite crafting system of any MMO to date.

Been playing Legends since the server started and been following the SWGEmu project since 2005 when development started due to the CU (I forgot how I even found out about SWGEmu). Honestly, all the different servers (and server types - Pre-CU and NGE) are a testament of how much people love SWG. It's been dead for almost a decade, but has servers like Legends have more active development and more active server population than many current live MMOs.

There was a big thread about the threat of Disney on the SWGEmu forums back when the purchase was made, but from what I gathered, the project is basically under no risk of being shut down so long as no money is made.

Raph Koster himself even has an account on the forums and pops in every so often to post in random threads or to share old ideas/screenshots/BTS he had from working on the game.

From my understanding was basically if no money is charged, they are free to have it. It isn't flying under Disney's radar by any means.

Reading all the concerns and is something i was worried about getting involved, but that was over 3 years ago and i think the server has been running for over 7 years now?

It's like when the mpaa started putting up ads in movie theaters that downloading is the devil, meanwhile it was a very small pool of whom knew, general pop had no clue, well that was until the mpaa started f'ing advertising it, then it became a wild fire, people wanted to know how you do it, i want to do it, i didn't know you could do that. Then became a global ocean. All that would happen is bring people's attention to it, free advertising.

It's a good server, I need to go back and play more, I remember really enjoying my time on there about a year ago.

For those who are actually playing - is starting off as a Trader feasible? I've decided to try it, but scared i might be wasting my time. I never really played after the CU.

Very impressive work from them, all props to the folks heading the project and everyone contributing. Frankly, I'm just sad it's post-NGE or I'd likely try it.

Not like it was back in the day.  You can have multiple characters now so that kills the need to go shopping for things, your alt just makes it for you.  You'll still see a bunch of vendors every where, but the economy's pretty stagnant to try and have one as your only.

One of my son's alt's is a Trader and while I think he's sold some resources on the AH, it's never been enough to support the character.  More like pocket change.

I'd say go for something else as your main and save the Trader for an alt.  You also end up getting an insta-lvl 80 holocrom, that most recommend using for an Entertainer or Trader alt.
