Cloud Gaming, when done right, is the great equalizer for accessibility and content. It enables gamers to play whatever they want, wherever they want, and every so often, however they want. Amazon Luna promised a growing library, 4K gaming, and the ability to play just about anywhere.  With Amazon's Luna controller in hand, and several dozen games at my disposal, how does Luna stack up to the other cloud services?

That seems to be the plan. More along the lines of a mix between Xbox Gamepass and Stadia, where they have a roster of growing games, but you may be able to purchase some standalone games in the future -- similar to what OnLive wanted to be before the acquisition and shutdown (if anyone besides me remembers that).

It's nowhere near a contender at this point, but maybe one day.

Just big business trying to get a piece of the pie in EVERY market.

I have been playing FFXI on a private server,so this service does nothing for me.Equalizer,i think not, isn't that what consoles were suppose to do allow every gamer to have the exact same game experience aside from latency which is something a streaming service is more than likely to make worse not better.

IDK the actual business structure behind these streaming services but eventually we will find out more over time and realize Amazon is NOT in this for YOU they are in it for Amazon.

I love the "by invitation only" lmao.So let's select all the social media outlets to help market our product.I mean we would want to hear from any actual gamer who CARES now would we?

Kind of comical seeing an editorial trying to hype up a blatant copy cat controller, could have siomply said,it is a direct copy cat design so you know what you are getting. To me it looks like about as cheap a copy cat xbox controller you can make.So a 10-15 dollar item selling for 50 ,yep a nice tidy profit.
If Amazon is trying so hard to make it easier, then why not just work with current controllers that just about everyone already has?Oh yeah a gamer needs that Alexa button lol.

    Well said Wizardy,
Amazon employees gotta eat too so I'm sure they are in it for the dollar bills. Having been a gamer since the SNES days myself, game streaming services don't interest me at the moment. I tend to enjoy games other than the casual COD/Madden/GTA titles which I'm assuming is the market amazon and some other streaming services are trying to target. I'm glad you mentioned latency issues and I wonder how streaming services will get around these issues in the future. My two biggest gripes with most of the games I play are not supporting cross platform play and netcode or multiplayer latency. I'm not saying I will never pay for a game streaming service but in my eyes with the current level of technology available, game streaming services aren't ready for the global market, barely ready for the US market.

It sounds a lot like Stadia when it first launched with a sparse selection of games. The technical issues are more concerning. The tech stack behind Stadia is truly amazing and open source. Since it's open source so Amazon could use it. They need to iron out their latency and performance issues quickly or they're dead in the water.

While I like Stadia, I choose GamePass and PlayStation Now over it or other streaming only services. While Stadia is easy on hardware it's brutal on bandwidth. I prefer services that let me install locally or stream.
I'm really looking forward to GamePass in 2021. Xbox is finally bringing game streaming to PC this year. Playstation is planning on throwing down on a Game Pass competitor, something that will hopefully be better than Playstation Now - which I always felt was lackluster.

To Wizardry's point, I don't think I was trying to hype a controller, but he misunderstands the major feature of the Luna controller. It's not just the Alexa button, but the "Cloud Direct Technology".

It essentially syncs the controller directly with the Amazon Servers to reduce latency, just like what the Stadia controller does. By comparison the Luna controller is a little better in terms of the feel and layout of the controls.

It has its pitfalls, both of them do, some of which result in input latency. When it works, which is most of the time, it works really well, and even gives me the option to wirelessly swap devices with the same controller quickly and easily.

As a controller nerd, it isn't my favorite controller to use. It's definitely not the worst though.

You do realize that the people who grow whatever food you buy do so to make money and not just to be nice to you, don't you?

Good name - Luna was one of my favorite HP characters... she didn't get enough respect - will fans of this service be known as lunatics?
