I really want to try Crowfall but putting down 50 bucks to hope it turns out good is too much of an ask. Is the current game in a decent enough state? Going to their forums makes it very hard to tell, I see new players complaining about population but older players saying they are all on the test server.

I would wait another patch or two, maybe 6.5, or even real real close to release....it isnt currently solo friendly.

I wouldn't bother . Wait till release...... Whenever the hell that is. I backed this year's ago. They seem to keep on changing adding stuff but never releasing. Baran is correct once you hit 30 it's PvP gank fest

Is it still heavily pvp with really no pve storyline? If so it's a fail before it even gets out the door.

This is a pvp game ... its not a pvp gankfest... it's open world pvp with faction vs faction campaign with keep sieges and also a guild vs guild campaign with the best resources on that campaign. The game has a lot of the systems fleshed out and it's only going to get more popular and better. Dont believe the doomsayers here. Right now is a perfect time to get in and learn the crafting and progression because there is a learning curve... this isnt for the carebears, it doesn't hold your hand like all the other trash mmos... its straight up player economy that makes the game, it has a very SWG feel to it.

Can you explain the SWG feel, at least from a crafting perspective, because from what I gather from the forums it is not anywhere near the complexity.

I backed very early and the dev team / communication has been great. The combat has always felt very off though - for a PvP game with action combat, it feels clunky, unfun and the animations leave a lot to be desired. Can't see myself playing it at release unless they change it substantially to be fair.

I'd recommend watching a lot of videos to be sure the style is for you.

Don't do it, just wait till it officially releases if ever.

If you're looking for a game that is good enough to be worth playing right now, Crowfall isn't it.  There's a lot of stuff that is kind of there, but really incomplete.  The play balance is also terrible because they've put stuff in but haven't yet gone back and rebalanced it.

That's all fixable, so the game might be good someday, or it might not.  But it's not there yet.

Raph Koster and Gordon walton that produced and came up with SWG's crafting built this crafting wich is very much reminiscent of SWGs crafting complexity.

I appreciate the in-game Wikipedia initiative, it may be a lot of work to maintain but I think it's worth it (especially if they can get players make their own edits to it).

" A new vessel progression system that allows players to keep their existing characters and increase the level cap without having to re-level. Vessel advancement begins at Level 30 and does not require a return to “God’s Reach” (starting world), instead, it creates a new progression path from levels 30 to 35 - accessible from "the Dregs” (Guild vs. Guild) world band"

^ Not sure exactly what it implies concretely, does it mean that all new vessels are already leveled to 30?

The thing with Crowfall is that you kind of need a guild to get the most out of it. 90% of the game is guild activities. Because of that it will either be amazing or not the most fun. So my number one tip for anyone that wants to play is join a guild or you will be missing 90% of the content.

Yea it's a guild-focused MMO so players may miss out on the full experience if they don't join a guild. But there are still things solo players can do and have fun with (PK, PvE, crafting, gathering, etc.)

And yet the game has virtually no in-game guild functionality and limits you to a single guild. For example when I played several months ago I seem to recall that there was no way to create or join a guild in game- you had to do both of these things via the crowfall website.

I haven't logged in for ages so maybe its changed now, but I found the lack of even the most rudimentary guild-related functionality to be quite strange for a game that is so focused on guild activities.
