So it will just be Assassin's Creed/Far Cry/Watch Dogs/Every Ubisoft Game with lightsabers. Gotcha.

The real news is just that the license is not exclusive to Electronic Arse anymore.

About god damn time, so bored with on rails SW games of late.
The rails are still there with Ubisoft games. They just take the form of level gates and 9,001 towers/collectibles/forts/caravans/etc.

Once you realize that their open world formula is nothing more than a checklist of mundane busy work, the illusion of it being open fades pretty quick.

Please God no. Not Ubisoft. A star wars game is great but not one with an entire map full of useless collectables.

    Like Fallen Order?
At least Fallen order's useless collectibles provide cool skins for your glowstick of death.

I don't have much hope this will be an mmorpg (emphasis on the rpg), but here is to hope.

Their games do seem to be cut and paste format. EA is working with them on the project so maybe not this time?

    LOLOLOLOLOL

EA is the KING of "Cut and Paste".
If you've played one call of duty you've played em all. Same goes for their sports games and their sims games. Same old shit given a new coat of paint and re-released to the feeble minded.

Caugh. Call of Duty is Activision and Battlefield is EA. Caugh.

    Same shit.

    P.S. What's a "caugh"?

Shouldn't take them too long to reskin Assassins Creed.
Massive Entertainment is better known for The Division 2 over Assassin's Creed

What is good news is the Snowdrop engine is being used for the upcoming title.
I'm a big fan of that engine and what it is able to do.

Snowdrop lacks one big feature that no game developed on it has, jumping.
If they add it for the Star Wars game they will have no excuse not to have it on the next The Division game. That would be a huge plus. That is one of the biggest downsides of the Division, being glued to the ground forcing you to move like a car/tank.

For that reason alone I would rather see SW made on the AC engine, but massive could pull this off if they address all the limitations Snowdrop currently has. I am assuming those are real engine limitations and it's not Massive omitting basic features on purpose.

    So here we are ...again.
Why can't they just make a great open world game without the Star Wars logo?
Well unless you been living under a rock, devs do this to ensure a high number of sales without anyone even seeing the product. They make these sales on the popularity of the IP.
I want the game to sell on it's own merit,i want people to look at it and think GREAT game and not jsst another Star Wars game that won't even barely feel like a SW game.

IMO soon you see the IP brand you might as well forget this being any good.

I can't speak for anyone else, but the IP is an extremely important part of my enjoyment of a game.

Yes, the mechanics / gameplay are the most important thing and will be what I mostly judge a game on, but the IP is what makes me want to spend time in the game in the first place.

So, using the Star Wars IP, I'm pretty much guaranteed to have a game that I genuinely want to explore. Now, if the mechanics are shit, I either won't buy it or won't play it for long, but at least I don't have to worry about the IP, it's a guaranteed win for me.

I can understand your point that a lot of games based on popular IPs do end up being shit, just a shallow cash in, but that's not universally true. We'll have to wait and see how this one turns out. There have been good star wars games in the past, this one could be too.

I can also say that IP matters.

I've put 400 hours into Fire Emblem Warriors, as FE is my favorite IP. I struggle to put 10% of that into Hyrule Warriors (Zelda being an IP I'm neutral on) and One Piece Pirate Warriors (One Piece being an IP I can't stand to look at). All of them are great games in a genre I love, but the IP makes all the difference. Just as it would with other IP's I care about, like the Witcher, Mass Effect, Tales, Trails/The Legend of Heroes, Ys, and Persona.

As for an open world Star Wars game, I can certainly say that's more appealing than their previous Division game. IMO, the Division's Tom Clancy IP was its whole problem. A looter based on a modern day post apocalypse just doesn't work like the more sci-fi based ones do. It runs into realism issues that the others don't.

The fact that it's not EA is a huge plus.  I'll definitely keep an eye on it but it's waaaaay too early to get hyped.

Example New World has no "jump in place"
And I love it. I hate morons bunny hopping all over the place in MMORPGs.
In "real life" you couldn't jump non stop all over the place without quickly losing all your stamina.

The way they did it in NW, overcoming obstacles more naturally by climbing on them, is just awesome.
And I'd be a hypocrite if I said jumping was necessary to make a good game, considering my favorite game of all time, Guild Wars, does not have jumping (in fact, I'm not sure if it even has a Z-axis, or if terrain height mechanics had to be individually coded or something).

Obviously jumping is a mechanic that can expand what your game is capable of, through platforming segments or jumping over obstacles to explore, though I'll agree that bunny hopping makes games worse than the lack of jumping ever could.

This game is being developed by Massive Entertainment who did The Division 2 and World in Conflict, It is in good hands.
Let us trust people who have been creating games for years and let them do their thing. Let's not anticipate what it might look like, so as not to be disappointed, let's wait warmly and enjoy the end result

"Just saying, while jumping may not be necessary, being glued to the floor is a big negative checkmark for me in games."

Right! We have enough of that in RL! Give me some hops!

    Keeping it clean. F*** EA.

They had this coming for awhile now. Hoping UBI does well with the franchise. Same with Bethesda works and Indian Jones.

Story driven can be hit n miss.I played a FF game tha twas just CS's every frigging minute,it became boring.
I also know i have heard others mention they don't like too much story either.
However there is a flip side,i thought FFX was an amazing story,it was plausibly real within the confines of it's design.I even feel like FFX is the best story in a rpg i have ever played and by a landslide,i can't even think of another story based game i actually cared much about the story.

I prefer LORE and a sort of realistic setting where i see different cultures/races and not stagnant npc's standing in front of open huts with a question mark over their head.

Even the word OPEN can be very misleading, open but with linear lanes and invisible walls is often a complaint by many.or open worlds but nothing in them and we have to enter instances to actually get some content.

So early talk is cheap, they can say anything but it will have very little meaning,we need to see a product to judge weather they put any effort into the game or not.

I will say this,IF they can actually deliver an open world game that doesn't send me into instances and make early levels completely pointless, then they might have a fan.
AND...doesn't have a cash shop, then yeah i'll look and listen.
